Hardcore Exorcist: Reborn to Grind

Ch. 107

Ophelia arrived at the Sakura District Meat Processing Center and collared a nearby police officer to get some answers.

“Yeah, that’s right. Your guy, Ikaku Akamuro, went on a rampage. Huh? He’s not with you? Oh, I see. I just assumed he was your attendant, Lady Ophelia, since you two were together at that warehouse before. Completely mistaken? My, my... My apologies for the misunderstanding.Man, what a shocker. Truth is, he took down a Category 3 Demon at another scene, too... Huh? Oh, you already know? You just came from there? I see. Well, no need for me to explain, then. By the way... what do you, uh, think of him? ‘What do you mean by that?’Oh, no, I didn’t mean anything by it... I see. So your take is that he’s ‘not bad-looking,’ ‘tall and reasonably dependable,’ and ‘fairly well-educated and gentlemanly at times’?Um, with all due respect, Lady Ophelia... that’s not what I was getting at. I was trying to ask about the rampage—how a lone, ordinary exorcist stormed a hideout and killed sixty-nine people. From where I’m standing, that seems like a pretty big deal...Ah! Please don’t glare at me. It’s terrifying. You’re right. I should have been clearer from the start. It’s my fault for being inept. Yes. Ma’am. I’m very sorry.”

Humiliated by the young officer, Ophelia finished her inquiries and left the corpse-strewn scene within five minutes.

“Mew, meow...?” (Ikaku, isn’t this... a bit much...? It looks like a typhoon just blew through. Sixty-nine people? And thirty-two of them were Demons? Wait... Is Ikaku far more dangerous than I ever imagined?)

Having only ever known Ikaku’s abilities within the confines of the estate, Ayano Akai had never properly grasped his true power.

A mountain of human corpses. A mountain of demonic remains. Even Ayano Akai, once lauded as one of the Coral Sisters—the Four Witches of the Akai Clan—felt a chill run down her spine.

A tremor of exhilaration and excitement ran through her, yet her fur bristled.

Kuro of the Demon Sword, Kuro the Manslayer… the swordsman they called by those names had the same distinctive, fist-shaped crater smashed into his chest. This was without a doubt the work of Mister Akamuro.A serial killer who has butchered over thirty people in the last fourteen years. A wanted man with a thirty-million Church bounty on his head. A Demon Contractor with a minimum Power Level rating of Category 4. Sixteen points, possessing power comparable to a Baron-rank Mage. And Mister Akamuro defeated him...

According to that insolent police officer, he simply ran off afterward. Mister Akamuro, are you unharmed? Impossible. He has no magical protection. The healing effects of his Ichor can’t be used indefinitely.

Terrifying as the one-man-army spectacle was, her concern for him grew. The scars of battle left in Ikaku Akamuro’s wake were too severe, and the intervals between them too short.

It’s as if he’s looking for a place to die... Mister Akamuro, you...

A sense of urgency spurred Ophelia and Ayano onward.

Their next destination was a shooting range in the Hillcrest District.

According to their intel, this was the stronghold of Retsu Shido, the cult’s second-in-command. It was an especially dangerous hideout, fortified with trained mercenaries and powerful weapons.

Police cars and fire trucks had already cordoned off the scene.

Ophelia used her clout to bypass the blockade and enter the large parking lot, where she saw corpses scattered everywhere and, among them, the remains of an exceptionally large Demon.
