"Hey, why aren't you saying anything?! Huh?! You're not mute — are you trying to act special?"
Alex stomped over to the bedside, shouting. But at that moment Louis suddenly lifted his eyes, then immediately clamped his mouth shut again — he was afraid he'd get hit if he kept talking...
Finally, he lifted his chin and said, "Alright then, I'll share my toys with you, and you'll become my junior, okay? I won't treat you like a toy anymore, so you should feel lucky!"
Ha ha, Louis is really good at fighting — later Alex won't have to punish disobedient kids himself; Alex thought he was brilliant!
But obviously Louis disapproved of his cleverness; he didn't change his expression, nor did he bother to glance at Alex.
Alex pressed his lips together and dragged his big toy box over. "I really have tons of toys! You'll regret it if you don't agree to this!"
Louis glanced once — it was all toys kids would like, but he wasn't a child.
Alex dumped the toys onto the bed and started playing as if he were having a great time, pretending these neglected toys didn't usually belong to him; now and then, he glanced over to probe Louis's true expression.
But Louis remained gloomy as ever. How annoying!
Just as Alex was about to ramp things up, someone knocked loudly on the door and Mr B's respectful voice called out, "Young Master Alex, Young Master Louis, it's time for lunch — please come downstairs."
Louis couldn't help but feel secretly surprised.
He had obviously only just finished breakfast and come here; no matter how you looked at it, it shouldn't be lunchtime already.
But the clock on the wall struck 11:30, as if time had quietly sped by while he wasn't paying attention...
Alex snorted and shouted, "I'll tell you I won't forgive you or your family later — just wait and see how my father deals with you; you'll regret disobeying me!"
Louis ignored him and led the way out.
Alex seemed to have a big ego that always wanted to go first; he suddenly ran ahead like an arrow toward the dining hall, using the stair rail as a slide.
Yes, these kids looked human, but sometimes they weren't quite.
They sat down at the table. Mr. Andersen was seated at the head; when he saw them — or rather, when Louis approached — he broke into a friendly smile, so affable that even Alex felt dizzy, wondering if he'd run so fast today that his father was proud of him!
"Alex, Louis, have your lunch." Mr. Andersen said softly.
Alex couldn't help but frown and shout, "Louis eating with us? No way!"
The moment Alex barked, he was met by Mr. Andersen's deep, probing gaze and immediately, instinctively, shut his mouth.
Mr. Andersen said slowly, "Louis, you will become my son from today on. How do you feel about that?"
It seemed Lena and the Adonis family had been kicked out. Mr. Andersen hardly needed to expend any effort dealing with them.
Louis really didn't want to think about the consequences if his identity were exposed.
But he hadn't forgotten the crux of completing his mission: don't go out of character and get married!
So he only nodded — for him, where he lived didn't seem to matter much.
Alex, however, was not so easily placated; he immediately shouted again, tears welling up: "No! Why?! Father, I'm clearly your son!"
Mr. Andersen glanced over. Already full of indignation, Alex could do nothing but fall silent again, though the tears kept flowing.
As Alex was about to turn away, Mr. Andersen's voice grew cold: "Eat."
Alex ate the large plate of meat before him, glaring at Louis.
Only when Mr. B led Louis away to his new room did Alex finally lose control and stare wide-eyed at his father; his pupils seemed to flicker with red light.
Mr. Andersen looked at his son and said slowly, "Say what you want to say — I hope those words have gone through the analysis of your brain."
Alex shut his mouth, then finally asked, "Why did you adopt Louis? What's so special about him? Every time I see him, I want to tear his throat out."
Mr. Andersen nodded. "Louis is not like us, Alex. You will not be able to cut Louis's throat."
Alex didn't accept that. Mr. Andersen watched his son's expression and continued calmly, "Even when you grow up, you still won't be able to."
Surprise — very different from his usual stubbornness — showed on Alex's immature face.
Mr. Andersen nodded again. "Those who awaken later become only stronger when they do awaken. But Louis not having awakened yet doesn't mean you can harm him. Don't provoke him — I don't know what we'd face."
Alex pursed his lips, unwilling, and suddenly asked, "How long is the time limit for awakening?"
Mr. Andersen narrowed his eyes and said slowly, "Twenty years old."
Alex licked his lips. "If by then he still hasn't awakened, I'll kill him."
Mr. Andersen nodded. "I've always hoped my son would be the strongest existence."
Alex obediently said, "I've finished eating, Father."
Mr. Andersen nodded in satisfaction.
Louis, too, was pleased to enjoy a quiet night without disturbance; he vowed never to see Mrs. Adonis's terrifying face again.
The next morning, Alex and Louis went together to Rose Mansion. Louis's sudden change in status astonished the other children, though none dared to ask questions. All they knew was that from today onward, besides Alex, there would be one more person who could bully them. Alex even instructed them not to bully Louis but not to play with him.
Louis had not forgotten his mission.
[In Rose Mansion, which child is the most disobedient?]
[Time limit: 5 days]
The time limit had been reduced from seven days to five.
A boy sat in a corner of the main hall, showing no intention of talking to the others; he looked obedient, yet excessively sad.
So small, so beautiful, so adorable.
Footsteps approached with a slight heaviness. Louis furrowed his brows and turned to look.
He saw a girl nearly taller than everyone else here, about 1.5 meters, entirely unlike the other children.
She had long white hair and bright, devilish red eyes peeking out from under her overly long bangs. She wore a T-shirt and long pants, entirely different from the extravagant outfits of the other kids.
Seeing Louis look at her, she seemed slightly flustered, nervously twisting her hands and feet.
"You… you beat up Alex yesterday — that was so cool."
Despite her tall frame, her movements were timid, and her voice was very soft: "Nobody else wants to play with you? Do you want to play with me?"
Louis furrowed his brow and looked at her. Before he could speak, their teacher arrived — the Rose Mansion manager and the one in charge of teaching the children.
