Chapter 272

Druuv opened the fight with a breath attack. At the same time, I flared my aura and dodged to the side, Druuv's fire breath following right behind me as he tracked me with his head.

Before Druuv could turn 180°, he ran out of breath, leaving me with the small opening where he needed to take a breath.

I made a sharp turn and dashed directly at Druuv. I whipped my spear in a straight vertical line while generating a wind blade to cut a path through the remnants of the flame breath in my way. When I burst through what Druuv thought was a makeshift barrier of flames, it made him instinctively rear up on his hind legs to make both his claws available to attack.

When I closed within striking distance of Druuv, his long neck bent and maneuvered his head to take a chomp out of me, but the move was so telegraphed that I had no issue dodging out of the way with minimal movement. Next came the two swipes of his fore claws, which I evaded by rolling forward. This brought me in front of Druuv's feet.

Now, I could have used the sharp end of my spear, but I do not want to make an enemy of the red dragon bloodline by slaying their young, so I had to use the butt of my spear like I had with Thryz.

But like with Thryz, I knew that using just my aura empowered body, I would not be able to do much damage with my strikes. But that does not mean that I have no ideas of how to at least make my strikes hurt. All I had to do was aim for the weak spots.

So, like an old school teacher in the days when corporal punishment was the norm, I threw out three quick mana-infused jabs at the toe knuckles of his left foot with the butt of my spear.

In those three jabs, I felt the cracking of scales that were meant to be weaker due to being located in parts that were meant to be flexible when moving. But on one of those jabs, i felt like Druuv's toe gave way. Not so much like a break, but more like a pop.

Druuv roared in pain as he lifted his left foot, leaving him with only his right foot supporting his whole body.

Now, I could try to give his right leg a wack to sweep him onto the ground, but I had no illusions of sweeping a multi-ton dragon with just my spear and some elbow grease. So I had to borrow the strength of the ground he was standing on.

I filled my right foot with mana and stomped on the ground, using instinctive magic to send my mana into the earth beneath Druuv's foot, and with one swift motion, I dragged my foot back like I was dragging a rug.

With that motion. The ground Druuv was standing on moved towards me faster than his body was able to, making him fall on his back.

With Druuv knocked prone on his back, I used this opportunity to transition to Primal Aura, jumped to Druuv's right side, and started beating him like a dusty rug.

As I rained blows on Druuv, I came to realise that Druuv was unused to combat. With every blow I rained down, he flailed his arms around like a wild animal, and with every blow that was in the transition of a down stroke, he flinched and closed his eyes, making him unable to react properly to my attacks.

Oh well, seeing that he or the person who sent him to his Broken Scales trial did not follow the spirit of the trial, I am doing him a favor by breaking him in.

As the beating continued for a full twenty seconds, occasionally having to jump around to different sides of his body to avoid wild swipes, the thicker scales on his body chipped, cracked, and broke off under my unrelenting stick beating.

But like most combat encounters, unless the disparity of power was like the heavens and earth, the outcomes of the next move from second to second were unpredictable at best.

While dodging towards Druuv's right midsection to avoid a snap of maw, his wing, which was pinned under his bulk, finally got free and clipped me while unfolding, sending me flying and sending me into an uncontrolled spin, making me fall on my side and roll for quite a distance before coming to a stop.

Thanks to Primal Aura shrouding my body, the injury I received from this rough tumble was the equivalent of a child falling over in a padded playground, and with my armor covering me, I did not get a scratch or even a boo boo. What I did get was a mouthful of dirt and dust.

As I got to my feet, I conjured some water to rinse my mouth and face before setting eyes on my opponent.

Druuv was up but shaky on his legs while huffing and roaring like an angry human child would try to cry and wail at the same time while throwing a thamtum. That is when I heard an irritatingly familiar voice from the sea of cheers from the audience.

[Use your magic, you idiot!] Gravaxthuur roared, snapping Druuv out of this tantrum and actually making him use his brains.

The only good thing about having his wings pinned below his body when he was prone was that I was not able to beat his wings into a pulp, but now that Druuv has seen what I can do up close, he flapped his wings and took to the air.

When he was at the height where he thought I could not reach him, he bellowed down to me, [Be proud of yourself, vermin, you have wounded a true dragon, but that is where it ends. Where you end!]

He then did something that I did not know could be done with Dragon Tongue magic. He breathed out a small plume of his breath attack and willed his magic into reality [Inferno].

With my eyes constantly fueled with mana to look out for any spells or mana-based attacks, I saw but a fraction of the mana I used when I used [Fire] interact with the breath attack, turning it hotter and more powerful than any [Fire] I used so far.

The only conclusion that I can draw from what I witnessed is that the Dragon Tongue magic he cast used the flame breath attack as a catalyst, negating the need to warp reality as much to produce fire. And from what I experienced while getting chased by his breath attack, his fire breath attack is hotter than any spell I have ever slung.

It only took about three seconds before Druuv's [Inferno] finished, but I had wasted all that time studying what he was doing, so it was too late for me to stop it. With the [Inferno] between his hands complete, he shouted [There is nowhere to run, puny human! You will die in a sea of fire!]

He then pointed [Inferno] at the ground, and out of that orb of fire, a waterfall of dragon fire splashed to the ground, and a tidal wave of that dragon fire was flowing toward me.
