Adam looked over his system status and also the new information about his bloodline, and also his equipment.
"I managed to unlock my bloodline." He muttered to himself. "I wonder what was that voice?"
Not only this his stats increase he managed to breakthrough to A rank due to awakening his bloodline, and his equipment were able to gain new abilities.
"My sword and armor unlocked new abilities, I'll test them out tomorrow."
The Next Day
It was the next morning, his friends still haven't come out of the infirmary.
He left the academy grounds easily since it was closed temporarily, it was also under the pretense of his royal mission.
He was walking alone through the streets of the capital. It was still only dawn.
His thoughts were still distant, he was still thinking about the voice he heard during his bloodline awakening.
He still didn't understand it yet, but it felt like home, it was welcoming.
After awakening his senses were sharper, and his heartbeat was now heavier. He could hear evey sound, feel every presence that was around him.
'Heir...'That was the word that was echoing again in his mind, it was like a whisper brushing against his soul.
He finally arrived at the guild, a tall building with dark marble and also reinforced glass, he then walked inside.
There atmosphere there was buzzing, countless hunters, mercenaries and even mages were moving around looking over the mission board, others were boasting about securing a high bounty.
Professor Veyra was waiting for him near the main desk, she had a serious expression on her face as she was reviewing several documents.
"Ah, Adam." She greeted him as soon as he entered. "You came just in time."
Adam nodded as he approached her. "So, what's the location of the mission?"
She threw a folder across the table towards him. "The location is the southern ruins, it's on the edge of the Mournvale Forest. Our informants say that the Outer God Cultists are using the abandoned shrines as their gathering place, the was a lingering scent of corruption there."
Adam started flipping through the papers, his eyes narrowed when he noticed the sketches of the ancient ruins.
They were jagged, has crimson symbols that were identical to the ones he saw in the gate.
"Seems legit, matches what I saw in the gate," he muttered.
Veyra nodded. "Yes, this is just one of several sites."
As she was speaking, there were sounds of footsteps that were echoing from the upper staircase.
"Guildmaster," a woman's voice called out, it was smooth, confident it had a faintly amused tone. "You're briefing him without me?"
Adam turned around.
That's when he saw her once more, this was Arlen the Vice-Guildmaster and also a peak A-rank.
"Adam, you remember Arlen." Veyra said. "She'll be your direct superior in this mission, since it's that if great importance."
Arlen's lips just curled slightly and she crossed her arms. "Seems like we'll be working together this time Adam, hope you'll show me how much stronger you've gotten."
Adam just stared at her with a smirk. "You'll be surprised."
Arlen looked at him with a calculating gaze, and then she stated laughing.
"Hah! I look forward to it then," she said, her eyes were gleaming. "Okay, let's get get started then."
Veyra just sighed quietly, she was rubbing her temple. "We'll begin with the briefing before the mission, Arlen.
Arlen smirked. "Okay, okay. Let's do the mission briefing then."
Adam looked at her with a smirk. "Seems like your impatient, Senior."
Arlen's grin widened. "Yeah, I can't wait to see your progress."
Later That Day – At The Briefing Chamber.
The three of them were standing before a circular table, it was covered with maps and glowing crystals that were projecting data.
Veyra was the one who spoke first, her tone was steady. "Let's begin, the ruins in Mournvale were once there temples that were devoted to the Ancient Dragons. This was even long before this kingdom was founded, they were serving as anchors that were keeping the continent's mama balance stable. But ever since the ancients disappeared, they were abandoned and sealed off."
"Until now huh," Adam said.
"Yes."
Arlen leaned forward, she was pointing at a red marker on the map. "This is the area that was in the reports. The scouts day there's cult activity, by anyone who approaches just vanished without a trace. The corruption will consume the whole forest within a month at this rate."
Adam narrowed his eyes. "And the academy, it isn't interfering?"
Veyra shook her head. "No they can't. This is a royal order under Guild Directive. This Ming wants this to be handled, quietly."
"So no witnesses," Arlen added with a hard expression.
Adam was leaning back in his chair. "So this will be a silent cleanup."
Arlen nodded. "Exactly, you caught on fast."
Nightfall – Mournvale Forest
At the time they reached the forest's edge, the moon now hung low and red.
The once kush trees are now twisted, they had black roots that burned from within.
There was a faint hum resonating through the air.
"Something's calling us," Adam muttered quietly, gripping the hilt of his sword.
"You senses it too?" Arlen glances at him.
"Yeah, it's faint but feels alive. Feels like it's breathing." Adam nodded.
They went in deeper, they moved silently through the dead undergrowth.
The air grew colder with each step, frost began to form on the ground beneath his boots.
"Your leaking mana." Arlen noticed it.
"I know." Adam said, exhaling slowly. Suppressing the pulse of energy that was threatening to spill out. "I fixed it, let's continue."
"Don't do that again, it'll alert them next time." she told him curtly, though her tone wasn't harsh. It came out of concern from a seasoned veteran.
'It must be because of this resonance.' Adam thought.
They finally reached the ruins, that's when they finally saw it.
It was a shrine that was made out of black stone, and at its center it was dominated by a massive crimson crystal, it was pulsing like a heartbeat.
There were cultists surrounding it, and they were chanting in a distorted tongue.
"Seems like we're late to the party." Adam said, his eyes glowing faintly gold.
Arlen just drew her blade, its edge was humming with dark red mana. "Then we'll just make up for it, with efficiency."
They were moving in silence, two shadows that were cutting through the cults ranks.
Each strike that came from Arlen was precise, and each motion was swift as lightning. Her aura was burning through the air, it was reducing them to ashes.
Adam was following closely, and his own blade traced arcs of ice and space.
He was slashing through the corrupted mana with terrifying control.
However as they reached the center of the shrine, the crimson crystal cracked suddenly, and something was moving from within.
That's when a distorted, draconic silhouette emerged, though its form was incomplete and pulsed with chaotic energy.
Arlen's face hardened. "What the hell is—"
Before she say say anything else, she saw Adam walking forward instinctively. His heart raced, and this was the same ancient call that roared inside his soul during his awakening.
"You are one of us... you carry her blood..."
The voice was thundering through his mind, it was shaking his soul.
Adam suddenly fell to one knee, he clutched his chest as a golden light was flaring beneath his skin, it was glowing through his veins.
"Adam!" Arlen shouted instinctively, she grabbed him but the mana that was pulsing from him sent a shockwave that cracked the stone under their feet.
The half dragon spirit that was inside the crystal then turned its gaze towards him and bowed.
Veyra's voice cracked with urgency faintly through their comms. "Adam! Arlen! Report what's happening there!?
But Arlen could barely even answer, her eyes were widening in disbelief.
The dragon's corrupted essence dissolved, it was not attacking, not even resisting, but was absorbed into Adam's body.
And it that instant, she felt his aura change.
It was ancient. Draconic. Majestic.
The Cultists who remained fell to their knees, their voices were trembling in ecstasy, fear and horror.
"He... he is the one... The Sovereign's Heir..."
Adam's eyes suddenly snapped open, they were glowing molten gold and had streaks of golden flame.
And the corrupted energy faded, he rised slowly, and he gripped his asked once more.
"Well, let's finish this." He said, his voice was now echoing with a faint, otherworldly time.
Arlen just started at him, she was silent for a moment before she smirked faintly. "Never a dull moment with you around, kid."
