CLEAVER OF SIN

Chapter 490: Ultimate

The students didn't even dare to remain sitting, they immediately rose to their feet to flee from this madness and destruction that was named a spar, they didn't need to be told anything, they already knew deep within their bones, mind, soul and body, that if they remained where they were, staying alive would be nothing short of a miracle in itself, and no sane person wished to gamble their life on a miracle.

But it was futile, could any of them here be faster than Asher's lightning, could any of them here be faster than Vaelric's shockwave. The answer was a heavy and undeniable no, one that pressed against their hearts like a mountain and crushed even the slightest hope of escape.

The smarter students had already arrived at this answer almost instantly, their minds racing faster than their bodies ever could, so instead of running blindly like frightened animals, they poured all their Astra energy into whatever defenses they could muster and create, erecting barriers, reinforcing their bodies, or bracing themselves with trembling hands as fear gnawed mercilessly at their hearts, minds and bodies.

But the Instructor didn't just stand by and watch, Instructors were made to be present for cases exactly like these, there was always a chance of students dying during intense matches, and the Instructors were always present during challenges to prevent such tragedies from occurring, for their duty was not merely to supervise but to protect.

The Instructor immediately acted without the slightest hesitation, with a mere snap of his fingers Astra energy flowed out from his Astra veins like a rushing river, forming a huge cube-shaped barrier that protected the spectator stand and basically shielded everyone within it from the impending catastrophe.

He didn't need to do anything more than create an ordinary Astra barrier, because to him, no matter how monstrous the Tenth Sun or the Prince was in the eyes of the students, they were still children compared to his own unfathomable level of power and experience.

And with that, the falling roaring lightning wingless dragon met the incoming shockwave without a shred of hesitation or delay, the two forces colliding head-on like rival gods clashing for dominion, and with that the entire colosseum descended into total horror and apocalyptic chaos that drowned everything out.

Lightning pulsed outward in violent crackling sounds throughout the battlefield, slamming relentlessly into the Instructor's Astra energy barrier, and so too did the shockwave crash against it with savage intensity, the two energies scraping and grinding against the shield like grinding continents.

The air itself screamed for mercy as though alive, the battlefield below burst apart into total ruin due to the collision of the two attacks, stone tiles shattering, metal bending, dust erupting skyward, and pressure mounting with every passing moment until breathing itself became difficult.

But the shockwave was futile, it was like an egg trying to break through a steel wall, fragile and laughably insignificant in comparison. With the force of a cannon blast striking paper, the lightning wingless dragon tore through it as though it was nothing but a passing breeze, utterly unstoppable and merciless.

Prince Vaelric Lux Vanthelmor's eyes widened in pure shock and disbelief. He had thought he could at least reduce the incoming attack and absorb the rest, but now, before his very eyes, he could see that was nothing but a fantasy that could never come to pass, because his shockwave attack did nothing, literally nothing, on every level and scale known and unknown to man, it was as though it had never existed in the first place.

But his realization was useless, he couldn't react, he couldn't move, hell he couldn't even think, his reflexes were futile, his intuition useless, all meaningless under the raw and absolute speed of lightning that erased the very concept of reaction time.

All he could see was nothing but the pure purple lightning wingless dragon as it opened its huge and monstrous maw and consumed him in nothing but total madness, unforgiving fury, and overwhelming armageddon. Vaelric's bloodline ability immediately went into action as it desperately tried to absorb the energy like it had always done before, but it was useless as his body was immediately filled to the extreme within a single second, far beyond its limits.

And with that, the remaining energy that didn't even seem like it had been absorbed tore through his body with nothing but horror and devastation, muscles tore and burned to ash, bones reduced to total blackness, his skull cracked open as lightning tore through his brain, veins burst apart violently, and he couldn't even scream as the sound of rampaging madness of the lightning drowned everything out, besides his vocal cords had already been fried beyond repair to even produce sound.

The Prince felt nothing but pain, pure pain, pain like nothing he had ever felt before in his entire life, pain that came from everywhere and from every part of his body all at once, a pain so absolute that it erased every other thought. The next moment, he seemed to see the end of a tunnel, and there a faint white light could be seen flickering gently.

'Is this how I die,' he thought to himself as he stared blankly at the distant light within the tunnel, his consciousness slowly fading like a dying flame.

But just as his consciousness was about to be swallowed up by death itself, the Instructor appeared before the Prince in an instant, moving faster than anyone could perceive, and he casually raised a hand and slapped the wingless dragon, slapping it out of existence with nothing more than a mere wave of his hand as though brushing away smoke.

Smoke rose and covered everything, spreading across the battlefield and covering everything in thick haze and dust, but a sudden gust of wind blew through the arena, pushing aside the smoke and dust, and with that the Prince's body came into view.

He simply lay on the ground, his body totally charred, his flesh blackened and cracked, his form no different from black dust that was already crumbling apart, his brown hair completely gone as he seemed like a human-shaped flaming purple charcoal at that moment.

The students could only watch with their eyes widened in horror and fear, their throats dry and their bodies stiff. They couldn't believe their eyes, and they didn't need to be told that without the Instructor's intervention, the Prince would have died without question.

'Did the Tenth Sun plan to kill the Prince of the Empire?' they all couldn't help but conceive such thoughts, but at the same time this was a spar, and they all clearly remembered the Tenth Sun telling the Prince to forfeit while he still could.

They couldn't help but swallow hard. Aside from Ryaen, William, Finch, and Darrisa, none of them present had ever seen the Tenth Sun battle before, but still their minds couldn't comprehend an attack of such magnitude.

Was it even possible for someone that was in the same class as them, was it even possible for someone their age, unleashing such devastation without even trying, without even making any obvious movements, it was beyond their scope and minds entirely.

Fear gripped their hearts tightly, because at this moment they came to one undeniable understanding, whoever challenged the Tenth Sun to a battle style challenge was only seeking death.

Their eyes and heads couldn't help but snap upwards once more as they stared with reverence and tingling fear at a boy who reminded them just how weak they all were. A boy who was destined to remain at the top, a boy who was destined to remain undefeated, a boy who was destined to remain ULTIMATE.
