Hey all! I hope everyone's doing okay, both in and out of Detroit. And speaking of being in and out of here, with the quarantine finally being lifted, I thought it might be a good idea to look back over what's been happening while we were all locked down. Even with online stuff like this place (not to mention phones), I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who couldn't keep track of all the stuff going on in here. And, to be honest, there's probably a fair number in here who're in the same boat. So, just see this as a thread to get up to date on everything we actually know about. The next few posts will be a full, detailed timeline on the full situation from start to-- well, as much of an end as this happens to be. Feel free to jump in with any questions or clarifications.

Sure, man! We don't need an active quarantine to keep meeting up, and just because you weren't part of the group before doesn't mean you can't join. We're gonna try to keep meeting every week. I mean, the whole thing might've started as a support group for people who were stressed out about the lockdown and all, but we don't gotta start ignoring each other just cuz that's over. Actually, we were talking about taking a road trip together as soon as the walls came down, so you should stop by and meet everyone at the next meeting. We're gonna try to set up some solid plans. If you end up wanting to go, that's cool, one more person to help drive should be great. Or you can just hang out for a bit, whatever works. I'll DM you the address and all that.

I'm just saying, I'm not gonna completely let my guard down, and neither is the rest of my family. How do we know for sure there won't be a second wave of this stuff? If it's really Touched-made shit, they could be deliberately making people think there's a cure and it'll all be fine, then they hit us with a new strain that's completely immune to this cure of theirs. That's just what I'd do if I was this Tech or whatever. Especially if I wanted to do some real, lasting damage to this place.

No one's saying you should totally let your guard down, but come on, they already have Cup in custody and she's the one who made that shit. Pencil's dead, the rest of their gang is scattered or locked up too, and she's doing everything she can to avoid getting sent to Breakwater. No way she fucks that up for herself by unleashing something else. She'll play nice from now on. Cuz if she doesn't, the judge'll just drop an entire damn library on top of her, and she knows it.

So let's just ease up a little bit. The city's been through a lot, so people around here need to have some fun right now. Sure, something else might go wrong, but what's the point of living in fear constantly? Something could go wrong anytime. Meteors could fall from the sky and wipe out all life on Earth. There's nothing we can do about that, just like there's nothing we can do if another Sleeptalk shows up. We just have to let others handle it if it comes down to that. But until/unless it does, I'm just gonna live my life. Which right now means having fun with friends.

This whole thing is bullshit. You think that's really Cup? You think it's really Pencil who died? Come on, don't be so naive. It's so obvious that this entire situation was a coverup from the start. Think about it, what kicked the whole thing off? It was Trivial and Flea being stuck on Breakwater, which those people obviously would have done jackshit about if they weren't forced to. Sersly, you think Breakwater and the people behind it would risk the publicity hit they'd take by admitting someone was accidentally trapped there? It's not like they have anyone doing outside oversight or anything. If the public didn't find out those two were there, the Breakwater officials totally would have just left them there to rot. Probably literally, considering all the Fells. They would've let those two get killed and then never told a single person what really happened.

Uh, I don't think I'm gonna touch the post right before mine, someone else can get into all that. It's above my paygrade. Anyway, @Heavensketch that sounds great, and it looks like you're only a few blocks from my buddy's place. Maybe we'll both stop by for that meeting. He's got a decent van that could hold a few extra people. We could make a whole convoy out of this. If nothing else, there's less chance of some pirate gang trying to start anything with a whole bunch of us riding together.

—> Escher

Okay fine, I'll be the one to ask. @Paragone What exactly do you think the conspiracy here is. Sure, the Breakwater people probably weren't happy about someone exposing that whole mess, I'll go with that. But what conclusion are you jumping to from there? What does them being mad that they got embarrassed have to do with Sleeptalk? Please tell me you're not gonna try to claim that they were the ones who used that stuff to silence Flea and Trivial about some shit they saw.

And hey, @Heavensketch and @Crematen if you're making it a whole road convoy, I might be able to help out. I can't take all that time off work, but I've got some spare tires, tools, flashlights, and about six big coolers you guys could use. Plus my daughter's pretty good at art and said she'd make up some cool flag banners you could put on all the vehicles to help keep track of each other. And, well, just for fun.

—> HeavenSketch (Moderator)

@Crematen Awesome, an extra van and person sounds great, I'll let the others know you guys'll be there for the meeting so we can hammer out all the details. They all wanna get the hell out of the city as soon as we get gas in the tanks, but we've gotta do this right. No sense getting stranded out on the highway or running out of food just to get on the road faster. We think we're gonna aim for Thursday morning if we can swing that, or Friday if it looks like we won't be ready by then.

And @Escher that sounds absolutely fantastic! Can't wait to see those banners. But are you sure you can't go with? I mean, from some of your other posts lately, you and your family sound like just the sort of people who might need this break. They've been setting up some fancy program to bring volunteers from outside the city to fill in on some jobs for a few days so the people who have been stuck in here can get out for awhile without having everything just up and collapse. Maybe you could get in on that. Check this thread for details. Either way, we'd all hate to just take advantage of your generosity, so we're all gonna be pooling some cash to throw at you. Call it a rental fee for all your stuff. And a commission payment for your daughter's sweet art!

@Escher You wanna know what the real conspiracy is? No, I don't think they used Sleeptalk to shut those two up or anything, that cat's already out of the bag. Plus, if they were gonna silence them, they had plenty of chances while Flea and Trivial were still on the island. It wouldn't have been too hard to make sure they never left. Seriously, that whole place is literally chock full of superpowered serial killers. No one really would've been that surprised if those two were killed.

So no, that's not the truth. The real truth is that Sleeptalk getting out was a complete accident. It wasn't made by Cup, or by anyone else here in Detroit. It was made by the Breakwater people as a way to not only safely transport prisoners wherever they need to go, but to get information too! Think about that for just a second. They could use it to take these incredibly dangerous, evil people to and from the island totally safely, and get them to talk about all their secrets. They could find out where bodies are hidden, where they've got weapons stashed, who else they worked with, all kinds of secrets. That's what Sleeptalk was really meant for. It's not perfect yet, but with some tweaking, it could be completely revolutionary. Put someone to sleep and get them to dream about where they hid evidence or weapons, and boom, they start talking about it. They can find out anything they want to know from these people while safely transporting them. Win win. But somehow some of it got out with Flea and Trivial. I dunno if they were gonna tell the world what Breakwater was up to or if it was just a complete accident, but they ended up with a sample of the stuff or something, it went off, and that's how the whole thing went down.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

So wait, let me get this straight, you're saying Cup's entire involvement was just a coverup the entire time? She didn't actually design the stuff at all? Why would they do that? Why-- how the hell would they even get her to go along with something like that? She's actively confessed to being the one who made it, and she helped come up with the cure they're using right now. Huh?

—> EnemyOfTheGoose

Replied on June 16th, 2020

Can we just go back to planning out fun convoys and barbecues? We like that a lot more than this conspiracy stuff. No offense, I just really don't think we need to be going so far down the rabbit holes trying to find something worse than one of the Scions being behind this whole thing. Come on, she's in custody, they fixed Sleeptalk with the cure she provided, Pencil's dead and gone, it's over. The whole situation is handled, and we're finally out of quarantine. It kind of feels like some of you just want things to go back to that. I dunno, like you're disappointed it all worked out or something.

Look, I'm not saying this to rain on anyone's parade or to say stop celebrating or having fun. I'm really not. I'm just telling you to look at what makes sense, and the official story they're telling us really just doesn't. Why would Cup just happen to set her stuff off right then, and why target the two who happened to just get back from Breakwater? Why would she turn on Pencil, her own brother, whom she was all-in with right up until then? Yeah, yeah, she said he forced her into it and she took the first chance she had to stop him and get out of there, but does anyone really believe that a TECH-TOUCHED who could make Sleeptalk couldn't find a way to escape from Pencil's control sooner than that? Does anyone actually believe a word that comes out of her mouth?

Here's what I think happened. I mean, very basic version cuz I don't feel like typing for an hour to get all the details out when I doubt many people here would actually read eighty paragraphs worth of stuff. Like I said before, I think the Breakwater people made this stuff and it somehow accidentally ended up being carried off that island. Maybe they were testing it and those two were infected, I dunno. The point is, they carried it off that island and it went off here in Detroit. Now Breakwater had a big problem. They're already in hot water thanks to Flea and Trivial being on that island to begin with, and now they've gotta admit that their experiments caused all this?

So clearly they spent all that time during the lockdown looking for someone to take the heat off them, someone they could hand the cure to so that person could take all the blame. They found their scape goat with Cup. Maybe they found a way to get to her, maybe she really did want to get out of the Scions, maybe a lot of things. But the point is, she took the blame for them so now they get to keep everyone's attention off the prison. Come on, you guys can't honestly say you never thought there was something shady about that place, can you? They're a super prison on an island and almost no one knows anything about them. It's all top secret hush hush and the damn thing is sitting out there in international waters with little to no oversight. It's very sussy.

—> Razoev (Administrator)

Replied on June 16th, 2020

Now see, you had me thinking you might possibly know what you were talking about right up to the point where you said 'sussy.' Then all your credibility just went right out the window. But no, I don't think there has to be some grand conspiracy to all this. Cup just saw her chance to use the Sleeptalk in a way that would get the most attention, cause the most chaos, and then used that to leverage herself into a sweetheart deal in exchange for curing it. With taking out her own evil brother thrown on top just to make the whole thing even more attractive. What prosecutor or judge out there isn't gonna give her the best possible deal in exchange for saving a city and taking Pencil out of the equation? Especially when they can plaster her face all over the news and talk about how he forced this innocent, pretty little lady into doing all those horrific things?

Okay I'm just gonna say I am all in on the convoy thing just because it will take me out of this city and away from all the conspiracy talk like what's going on above. I dunno who's right or who might be lying, but we can't do shit about it so why get all worked up? Maybe she's lying, maybe Breakwater, the super-secret prison group with little oversight really did make Sleeptalk and it accidentally made it over here. Maybe maybe maybe. But none of us are in any position to do anything, so let's just leave it up to the people in charge and worry about what we can affect. We just have to come together, neighbor to neighbor, as a city, and show whoever was behind this that they can't ruin our lives, they can't ruin Detroit, that we're stronger than they are. We won't be bullied or broken into their toys. We are this city, and we'll live our lives better every day. We can show them that by going HERE and using the code livestrongdetroit for twenty percent off any purchase for the rest of the summer.

<> Topic — LEAT GAMES - Thread Number 5 (Boards – Places – United States – Michigan – Events)

LemonyLand (Moderator – Original Poster)

Posted on June 14th, 2020

(Original Post) OK, people, here is the local Detroit thread for the LEAT games. If you want the current main thread, it's right here. This is the first time in its history that we don't actually have any athletes competing in any of the games, largely thanks to the quarantine screwing everything up. But there are a few Michigan contestants, or athletes who previously lived here. You can find that list on the main LEAT site under the contestants category filtered properly by region right here.

We don't anticipate needing that many threads for this one thanks to the lack of personal competitors, but anyone who does want to talk about specific Detroit things involving the games can do so. You can discuss past competitors, the push to have Detroit host the games next time or any other thing as long as it's about Detroit and the LEAT games in some way.

(Update) Ayup, you may have noticed that this is the fifth thread for this in only the past couple days. We're leaving the original introduction as a sign of our own hubris, but really, who could have predicted that Paintball would actually join the-- actually, who could ever predict anything that Paintball does? Clearly, we're no better at that than all the Fells around here. That's comforting.

Anyway, yes, the above does require new clarification and correction. We do have a competitor right from our own city. Paintball's first event has concluded after three full matches. We won't put spoilers in this first post, but you can view highlights right here, or the entire set right here.

Oh come on, you have to be making that up. There's no way in hell you actually made a real bet like that. No one even knew paintball was going to be anywhere near the competition, let alone actually participate in it. None of us are gonna believe you called that and really won money off it. And no, just showing a picture of the cash doesn't prove it. You could've gotten that from anything. Unless you have a time stamped recording of you making the bet, I call bullshit.

—> Marconi's S

Replied on June 16th, 2020

Hey, hold on, what if they made that bet because they are Paintball and this is how they're funding a new round of suit upgrades!? Quick, look through the comment history and see if there's any evidence that-- MODS IT'S JUST A JOKE I SWEAR, PLEASE DON'T BAN ME.

—> GearK

Replied on June 16th, 2020

Yeah, let's just not break the rules about trying to figure out anyone's secret identity even as a joke. We don't want to end up making innocent people get harassed or even targeted by one of the gangs just for a laugh. Even if they're obviously making up the whole bet thing. No one who can't see the future or something could've guessed this would happen, and there's all sorts of special protections against people with those powers trying to get into any legitimate gambling.

I'm just gonna sidestep that whole conversation and go back to that earlier thing about the twin Paintballs theory. Are believers in that trying to say that paintball was--I mean were always twins even before they Touched and they just both did it at the same time and ended up with the same powers? Or did touching make one person become two? Also, was it the first or second time? Because if it was the second, I feel like those Fells they were fighting would've noticed something like that. Also, how do they hide that there's two of them now? I have so many logistical questions.

Hey, you guys can all believe or disbelieve anything you want. The only thing that matters is what me and those dudes down at the bowling alley on Vickers know, which is that I took a couple hundred bucks off them with that long shot prediction. And trust me, no one who looks at me for one second is gonna think I can squeeze my fat old ass into that little suit. I would love to be able to bounce around like that though. Hell, I'd probably settle for being able to bend over and get my paper in the morning without being in pain for the next ten minutes.

—> PennyPiquillo

I don't know if you're telling the truth about the bet or not, but I do hear you on the pain. I used to do gymnastics in high school several hundred years ago, and now I hurt just from watching these kids flying around on that field. I sure hope they have some decent medical coverage, cuz they're gonna start feeling it eventually. Hey, do you think we'll have a special senior citizens center just for all the former Star-Touched with catastrophic back and knee problems? Imagine the arthritis some of those Tech-Touched are going to be going through someday. Maybe someone should invest in that.

Okay can we just stop worrying about whether that guy is telling the truth about some bet he made and go back to talking about how much ASS Paintball just kicked out there in that last match!? Seriously, who cares about some bet a rando may or may not have made, go watch that highlight video again because that thing needs like a million more views! And if you wanna talk about bets, put it on Paintball going forward cuz he's gonna take a ring this week, I know it!

I dunno, does anyone else think there might be something weird about Paintball going so hard right there? Sure it's cool to see how badass he can be, but… really, when do we ever see him not making jokes or playing around? He was totally serious, totally focused, totally… you know, not like himself. I don't know about the rest of you, but the only time I remember hearing or seeing Paintball act like that is when there's something really bad going on. He turned serious mode on. Compare that performance with the earlier ones. Has anyone really checked on the kid?

—> Sickstalker

Replied on June 16th, 2020

Hey, let's not get all paranoid. Sure the kid was different in round 3, because he settled in and knew what he was doing. He was nervous in those first couple matches, then locked in on the last one. We've never seen how serious he can be in something like this. He might be hyper competitive at sports or something.

I dunno, I think that girl might be onto something. Here's an edit I made of the highlight video. I took out the fancy editing and all the cool effects, and the hype music. It's just silent video without any replays or anything. Watch what Paintball does, watch how he's moving and all that and then try to tell me there doesn't seem to be something up with him. Has anyone down there actually talked to him to find out what's wrong?

—> OnceWereWarriors

Oh shit, I think I know what's wrong and it has nothing to do with those games. He's stuck down in Phoenix while his friends are up here dealing with a bunch of new Fells on top of everything else that's been going on. No wonder he's stressed and taking it out on the competition. Here's the thread about that for anyone who's out of the loop.

Gepetto's Lad: Haha, don't worry, I remember everything you said about the difference in the packaging. This was almost definitely the original.

Gepetto's Lad: Hey, I never got an update from you, but I heard you grabbed the model. How's it working out?

Gepetto's Lad: Wait, you're okay, right? I heard something about an attack over in that area.
