Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 89: Battle for the Stars (2)

A spider dove from above, its razor sharp legs extending and its fangs primed and ready to strike. Luna responded with a simple void step and appeared a few meters to the side just in time for the beast to crash into the ground besides her.

It was momentarily confused as to why its prey was no longer beneath it, yet when a spear sliced off one of its limbs it soon figured that issue out.

The large spider turned rapidly and lunged forwards at the same time intending to finally get ahold of its elusive prey. Saddly for the beast though that prey was not alone.

A tail slammed into its side crushing 3 of its legs and sending the beast sprawling to the ground. It's pounce thourghly ruined, a hiss of pain was heard before it tried to stand. Yet it's now crippled right side was unable to support its weight fully and its body crashed back into the ground.

Luna took full advantage of this and dashed forward before unleashing a multi strike, severing yet another leg and finally its head.

As the beast finally collapsed Luna had a moment to look around and regain her bearings somewhat. Violet was besides her but was now engaged into another brawl, it appeared that the spider was not alone and was in fact joined by more of its brethren. All of whom radiated a sense of madness.

With a grin she dove forwards alongside one of the feline beast from her group to join their fearless leader and even the odds.

After Violet and her group had dealt with the monkeys and remaining deers they had no time for respite as more beasts charged them. It was reminiscent of the never ending hoard of beast that they had fought on the central island. Yet instead of innumerable weak beasts, nearly ever one here was strong.

Whilst not many were quite at Violet's level, they were a considerable step up from most of the other beasts she had battled during this past day. Barring the behemoth king of course.

Yet it was also to be expected, for it made sense that only the strong managed to reach the centre of this collosal valley. Especially during an even like this where all of the locals seem to have been compelled to defend. Violet believed that during normal times this region, whilst still quite dangerous. Would be considerably easier to navigate.

But she also knew that she really didn't have time to ponder such thoughts, for as soon as she had swatted away another of the nasty spiders that was trying to pounce on her Luna. She found herself now surrounded by 5 of the abominations, Violet also learnt something new that day. She really didn't like spiders. Not because of how they look mind you, no she disliked them purely for the fact that one of their kind dared to harm her companion!

So it was only natural then that she should exterminate them with extreme prejudice! Right?

Well anyway Violet wasted no time and dove into the battle. Her claws were already infused with the void and she instantly tore multiple legs off the one in front of her. At the same time bolts of void began to manifest around her, they spun for a moment above her head before shooting off at any that moved to attack her in return.

Some hit yet annoyingly most were avoided by the surprisingly nimble arachnids. Their counterattack was swift. Razor sharp legs rocketed forwards with the intent to pierce her scales, and poison filled fangs hoped to tear out her flesh.

Saddly for them Violet was not alone either. Luna and the wind cat smashed into the side of 2 separate spiders, leaving only one more that was charging towards her. Violet easily blocked the strike aimed at her hind legs and responded with another tail whip, more legs were shattered with her counter and the spider was unable to stand.

This left it wide open for the dragon to snap her jaws down on its head and tear the repulsive thigs off from its body.

Violet also learned another new fact that day. Spiders taste really bad!

Spitting the offending head out Violet focused back on the initial spider she had pounced at and one more began to tear into it with her claws. It was at that moment though that the final spider made its appearance known.

With terrible force the arachnid landed of the dragons back and its fangs pounced forward intending to peirce her back. Yet instead of sinking in to deliver the potent toxin, its fanged only skittered off her powerful scales. Evidently quite surprised by this the spider was unable to respond when a void bolt manifested right besides it and instantly detonated.

The creature was thrown down to land right besides Luna who had just finished off her foe. With glee she stabbed down and finished off the horrid thing.

Looking over Violet noted that the cat had also finished off its own foe which only left the heavily injured spider alive. With a quick pounce and a couple swipes of her claws Violet made quick work off that last one.

Once that was done the trio looked around and seeing a group of peculiar plant lizards harassing the giant trunked beast of their party the three of them charged forward with the intention of providing support.

The lizards were quite peculiar in that they had flowers growing out of their back and fought by summoning vines and firing seeds. Saddly for them they wouldn't have picked a worse foe to challenge with that skill set.

For the vines failed to hinder the great beasts movement thanks to its prodigious strength. And the seed bullets similarly failed to deal any significant damage thanks to its thick shaggy coat.

But whilst the trucked beast was nearly immune to their attacks, it was struggling to deal any damage itself. Thanks to the lizards speed it was unable to land any hits against the annoying pests.

But that soon changed with Violet, Luna and the feline charged in from behind them. Distracted with their futile attempts to take down the giant, they failed to notice the charging trio and were soon caught in a deadly pincer attack.

As soon as the lizards tried to respond to the new threat, the giant took its opportunity to retaliate and stomped down, crushing one unfortunate soul and grabbed another with its trunk before flinging it into the distance with a triumphant bellow.

The group easily dispatched the remaining foes. And just in time, for the next wave of endless enemies was once more approaching.
