"Lin Feng, can you... can you still drink?" Sun Zheng asked tentatively, a distressed look on his face. Lin Feng had already consumed over two kilograms of hard liquor; that was simply inhuman!
Regret began to creep into Sun Zheng's mind. His bets with Lin Feng and Cao Ying totaled over five million. While this was a small sum for his family, for him personally, it was undoubtedly a large amount!
Thinking he might lose, Sun Zheng panicked slightly and wanted to back down. "How about we call it a draw?"
"A draw?" Lin Feng chuckled, looking at Sun Zheng's handsome face, which was starting to show signs of weakness. "There's no such thing as a draw," he said lightly. "But I'll allow you to admit defeat. There's an unwritten rule: admit defeat, and you only lose half! It's up to you."
"Admit defeat? No way!" Sun Zheng was worried he might lose, but the bet wasn't settled yet. He couldn't afford to lose face out of fear. A few million is a lot, but the worst that could happen is a tricky explanation to my family when I get home. It's not a catastrophe.
"Since you won't take the chance I gave you, don't blame me for playing rough!" Sun Zheng, feigning bravado though inwardly trembling, glared at Lin Feng and said with false heartiness, "This time, Zhang Shu and I will drink with you! We take one shot, you take one shot, no pause! Do you dare?"
"You really don't have to give me a chance. Just the two of you? What's there for me to be afraid of?" Lin Feng shook his head, smirking at Sun Zheng.
"Lin Feng, are you really okay?" Cao Ying asked, her worry evident as she heard Lin Feng agree to drink more. Pouring such hard, burning alcohol into one's stomach was like self-harm. Chen Dong was on the verge of coughing up blood, yet Lin Feng still wanted to drink?!
"Don't worry, see? I'm fine, right?" Lin Feng said, shaking his head and smiling. With the huge advantage of Inner Strength blocking the alcohol, I don't feel drunk at all...
With a gloomy expression, Sun Zheng took out four shot glasses and filled them to the brim. He exchanged a look with Zhang Shu, and then they each picked up a glass and quickly downed it.
So, Sun Zheng was planning to speed-drink after all. He and Zhang Shu would each have one glass, while Lin Feng would have to drink two at the same time!
Without any hesitation, as Sun Zheng and Zhang Shu lifted their glasses, Lin Feng grabbed the hard liquor before him and downed it. He drank two shots in a row without pausing.
After Sun Zheng and Zhang Shu had each downed three shots, there were six empty shot glasses in front of Lin Feng.
"You... you must be... unable to drink anymore, right?" Sun Zheng, his eyes hazy from drink and his tongue thick, stared resentfully at Lin Feng and mumbled, "What... what is your stomach made of? How... how can you possibly still be drinking?"
Seeing that Sun Zheng was already very drunk, Lin Feng didn't bother to say more, just smiled silently.
Gritting his teeth and giving Lin Feng a hateful look, Sun Zheng finally picked up another shot glass. However, just as he downed his fourth, Zhang Shu, who had a lower alcohol tolerance, finally couldn't hold it in. *SPLUT!* He sprayed out all the alcohol he had just swallowed.
Zhang Shu, who had never chugged liquor like that before, became dazed after quickly downing four shots from the 100ml glasses.
In the end, Sun Zheng was the only one left standing on his side.
Lin Feng, on the other hand, was still looking at him with interest, his face calm and composed.
Sun Zheng picked up another glass of liquor; it felt as heavy as lead in his hand. He thoroughly regretted it now—regretted his ignorance in challenging Lin Feng's drinking capacity. Lin Feng's tolerance was simply inhuman. This time, he hadn't just lost face in front of Li Liping; he'd lost money too.
At this thought, Sun Zheng suddenly felt a surge of resentment. Why should I honor the bet? I didn't sign anything! This is over five million. Are Lin Feng and that woman actually going to rob me?
With that thought, Sun Zheng suddenly stared at Lin Feng, slowly putting down the shot glass in his hand, a very crafty smile spreading across his face.
Seeing Sun Zheng's actions, Lin Feng also paused his drinking. Sun Zheng's crafty smile puzzled him. What's this guy up to?
"I admit... my alcohol tolerance is weaker than yours..." Sun Zheng's spirits seemed to suddenly lift. He laughed and said, "But if you think you can take my car keys and credit card, absolutely not! The bet was just a verbal agreement. I didn't sign anything. Even if I don't give them to you, you can't do anything to me..."
Sun Zheng was actually going to renege! Lin Feng paused for a moment, then it hit him. I didn't think this guy had it in him to be so cunning! He knows bets like these aren't legally protected. If Sun Zheng really refuses to pay up, I'd have no formal way to collect the winnings...
But could Sun Zheng really get away with it in front of me? Before anyone else could react to Sun Zheng's intention to default on the bet, Lin Feng made a subtle move. Projecting his Inner Strength, he struck Sun Zheng's mute acupoint, rendering him speechless.
Then, under everyone's gaze, Lin Feng collected the car keys and credit card from the table, along with Wang Da's Vacheron Constantin watch, and said loudly, "Since you, Sun Zheng, have admitted you're no match for me in drinking, I won't be polite. I'll take these. You have no objections, right?"
How could Sun Zheng not object? He desperately wanted to argue, but he could only stare at Lin Feng in terror, opening and closing his mouth, unable to utter a single sound. He was scared half to death. Sun Zheng had no idea what was wrong with him; he'd suddenly gone mute!
Startled, Sun Zheng tried to stand and snatch the wager back from Lin Feng, only to find that his legs had gone numb at some point, leaving him unable to move.
What in the world is happening?! Sun Zheng's eyes widened, as if he'd seen a ghost in broad daylight.
Seeing Sun Zheng "tacitly accept" Lin Feng's victory, the spectators naturally cheered enthusiastically for Lin Feng. No one seemed to notice Sun Zheng's strange condition.
Lin Feng casually pocketed the watch and car keys. Then, taking the credit card on which Sun Zheng had written the password, he ignored Cao Ying's attempts to refuse and directly transferred five million in cash to her card.
Only when the maxed-out credit card was returned to his hand did a dejected Sun Zheng discover he could move and speak again. At this point, how could I not know Lin Feng was behind this!
"Lin Feng... I'll remember what happened tonight!" Sun Zheng threatened, glaring harshly at Lin Feng, his words spoken through gritted teeth.
"Heh... Hasn't your mother ever told you that honoring your bets is a virtue?" Lin Feng remarked with a calm smile, unfazed by Sun Zheng's glare, speaking slowly.
"HUMPH!" Wary of Lin Feng's terrifying methods, Sun Zheng dared not argue further, afraid Lin Feng might make him mute and lame again. With a sullen huff, Sun Zheng called over a few waiters to take Wang Da, Chen Dong, and Zhang Shu—his unfortunate, dead-drunk companions—to guest rooms to rest.
Having lost so much face, Sun Zheng didn't dare to linger. He shot one last greedy and venomous glare at Li Liping and Lin Feng, then scurried away dejectedly under the mocking gazes of the crowd.
...
"Handsome... You were really manly just now! You're a lot more impressive than those pretentious braggarts I've encountered. Are you free to keep me company tonight? I promise to make it worth your while!" After Sun Zheng had quietly departed, a wealthy, flamboyantly dressed lady, old enough to be Lin Feng's mother, emerged from the crowd. Discreetly, she slipped a Mao Zedong banknote into Lin Feng's jacket pocket, winked, and said with a flirtatious smile.
