Sid studied her quietly, his expression unreadable. Then he gave a slow nod.
"Yeah. You're still a zombie, at least for now."
Sid tried his best to comfort her. He didn't want Evelise to think that being revived was a curse or punishment. His tone stayed calm but steady, like he was trying to ease the weight she carried.
"But hey, you're also more alive than most of them out there. You can talk, think, argue… and apparently boss me around. So that's something."
Evelise stayed quiet, her gaze distant. Her hand gripped the edge of the chair as if grounding herself.
"I thought… maybe when you revived me, there had to be a purpose. That's all I kept thinking about— over and over, last night and even now. Why me? Why am I back? For what? Why did you have to bring me back at all…"
Sid exhaled slowly, watching her struggle to hold herself together.
"I don't know the full reason yet… but I believe it wasn't a mistake. Maybe I was meant to find you, to give you another chance. We'll figure out the rest as we go… together. You don't have to carry that question alone anymore. We've come this far, and I won't let you stay like this."
Evelise's eyes shimmered, not with tears, but with a sharp, stubborn fire.
"Of course you will figured it out! You brought me back, dumbass. That makes me your problem. And I'm not letting you rest until I'm whole again, human."
Sid chuckled softly.
"Alright, you're back. Time to go outside and cool off that attitude."
"You'll have to live with it! Now go get your stupid cloth already."
He stood up, grabbing his bag again. Then shot her a teasing grin as he opened the door again.
"Yeah, yeah. Don't melt while I'm gone. I'll make sure your royal coffin— uh, I mean, bed… is nice and comfy."
"Out!"
She snapped, pointing toward the door, but her voice was weak, more flustered than angry.
"Yes, ma'am."
The door creaked shut behind him, but Evelise's gaze lingered on Sid through the narrow gap. She watched as he adjusted the strap on his bag, stepping into the sunlight with his usual cocky posture. Yet something about his walk wasn't right. His stride was uneven, his right leg lagged just slightly, the movement stiff and off-balance. Her brow furrowed.
"What's wrong with him…?"
She murmured softly, leaning forward in her chair. Sid paused a few steps from the porch and summoned an item from his inventory. A small, half-empty bottle appeared in his hand— painkillers.Without hesitation, he popped the cap and dry swallowed two pills before taking a deep breath.
A few seconds later, his stance straightened, his steps smoothing out again. He rolled his shoulders, gave his leg a few testing bends, then continued walking like nothing had happened. The door closed fully, sealing the faint echo of his footsteps outside. Evelise stared at the closed door for a long moment, her expression unreadable.
"Stupid human… I can tell something's off with him."
She muttered under her breath, though the words carried a touch of concern she wouldn't admit.
"He better not die before fixing my bed."
The scene shifted to the sprawling green of the Nexus outskirts. Tall grass brushed against Sid's knees as he followed a faint glowing trail visible only through his HUD. A small line pulsed in his vision, marking the path toward a tailor shop pinned on his map.
The sun hung high above, blazing through the humid air. Sid slipped on his sunglasses and tugged his hood low over his head. The cracked roads and ruined lamp posts glistened with reflected heat, and distant cicadas buzzed loud in the overgrown silence. Despite the eerie stillness, he felt oddly energized.
"Alright, let's do this. Time to hunt down some tailoring recipes. Damn, I really am turning into a full-time servant for that bunny majesty."
He adjusted his hood, hands in his pockets, and began walking down the broken street with a bounce in his step.
Each stride he made carried an almost childlike rhythm, his sneakers crunching against gravel as if he were strolling through a park rather than the ruins of a dead world. He even started humming under his breath, swinging his arm lazily.
"Day three of asking the gods or the system to add music to this apocalypse. I'd make a damn montage out of this. Level one handyman turning into a full time tailor… what a glow up."
His laughter echoed faintly through the empty street. The world around him was overgrown and silent, yet Sid's carefree energy made it feel alive again. The broken world didn't weigh him down; if anything, it only seemed to fuel him. And somewhere back in that cabin, a certain tsundere zombie girl had no idea her so called servant was out there grinning like an idiot, dead set on keeping his promise.
Sid walked through the streets with the lazy rhythm of someone who had done this far too many times to be scared anymore. The air shimmered with heat, and the afternoon sun blazed down mercilessly. As he turned down what used to be a main road, he finally spotted them… zombies.
They weren't like the ones from the night before, fast and feral. These ones moved slow, sluggish, too pitiful under the full sunlight. Their skin was dry and cracked, their movements stiff like old rubber bands losing their stretch. One of them… was an office worker by the look of his torn shirt and faded ID badge. He was dragging a briefcase that had long since lost its handle. His tie flapped weakly in the wind, and his face looked… tired.
"An office worker zombie? Or maybe he just looks like the ones I used to see on the streets after work, same dead eyes, same tired face. LOL."
Sid slowed his steps, watching the zombie shuffle past him without even noticing. Its eyes were cloudy, its jaw half hanging open, but there was something eerily human about it.
