"Is Eve ready for this?" I ask in front of the castle gate, I've already left a letter for my father letting him know that I'm going to be an adventurer for a while and I've let Clarissa know that she should take care of my room.
So now I'm all set to leave without any problems, maybe I should talk to my father in person, but he's not here and it's usually hard to find him, plus a letter already solves it, so that's the method I used.
"Of course, Evelyn-sama, I'm always ready for whatever you want" She says with a smile as she approaches me carrying a bag with my things, a little bit of money, and her sword.
"You also seem pretty pumped up" I say, seeing the expression on her face. It's content, as if she's won something really good, and with her being happy, I'm happy too.
"It's because you're so cute all excited, Evelyn-sama" When Eve says this, I avert my gaze, too embarrassed to look at her. She always throws out these compliments that seem more like flirting out of nowhere.
"L-Let's go, OK! We need to find an inn, hotel, or something cheap to start living there!" I say, taking one last look at the castle.
'1 year...it's probably the maximum time I'll spend outside the castle...' I swallow hard, also feeling the cold sweat forming as my hand trembles, a mix of fear and nervousness about the future.
Although many in this castle are hateful people, the castle is still much safer than the outside, but with courage I turn to leave.
I need to create my own path and obtain my own strength without having to worry about anything else, at least outside the castle I won't have to worry about servants or the other candidates for the throne.
'It's a shame to know that it will take a while before I can use my dining room again! I hope that damn girl doesn't take my room for something else!!!'
"Let's go, Eve" I say very seriously, I don't want to think about what I'm going to lose by being out of this castle for 1 year, anyway, many of the important things in this castle are done by the heroine.
I'm just another romantic target with practically nothing special besides the most magnificently beautiful body in existence, the reality is that whether I stay or not doesn't make a difference, since Grace is the protagonist, and everything that happens in the castle sometimes happens because of her.
'Grace may be the protagonist of this world, but I will be the protagonist of my life, and I will do something that even she failed at' I will save the world and become the Queen of Demons, even though I'm seen as a failure.
"I like that look, Evelyn-sama, it's better than the uncertain look you usually have, it's sharp, like a good blade that knows where to cut" Eve says cheerfully as she follows me.
I remain silent to overcome the fear of the future alone while walking forward to build my own destiny.
...
...
...
"Evelyn..." I murmur, watching Evelyn leaving the castle, the person observing Evelyn said that Evelyn is temporarily leaving the castle to become an adventurer.
An idea that seems completely stupid to me, Evelyn is weak and her servant isn't that strong either, but it's her life and it has nothing to do with me.
"...Esther-sama, why did you call me?" A girl with black eyes and short indigo-colored hair asks me, her large breasts struggling to be contained by her clothing while her mature and sensual physique makes me look at her with a certain disgust.
"Elizabeth...Yorguth, I have a mission for you" I tell her while looking out the window, watching Evelyn leave with the girl named Eve.
Elizabeth Yorguth is one of my strongest servants, probably the third strongest I have. She was a noblewoman, but her family fell into ruin and I saved her, in exchange I obtained her loyalty.
She does everything I order, but because of her disgusting hobby, I usually keep her away from me.
After all, after losing everything, she ended up developing some strange fetish for "being dirty", joining various men to do disgusting things, apparently this depravity excites her and she usually smells of male sweat, which I sincerely hate.
"What mission, Esther-sama?" She asks, still keeping herself bowed.
"I want you to follow Evelyn, you must give me a new report every week, I want to know everything about her, what she eats, where she goes, what missions she accepts as an adventurer, who she talks to, even the way she sleeps."
"I want all the information, no matter how insignificant and trivial, you must write it down and pass it on to me, and also, I need...that if she dies, you recover her, revive her, and finally, bring her back to the castle." When I say this, she is surprised.
"E-Esther-sama? Do you really want me to spend that on her?" She says, completely shocked.
"Don't contradict me, you heard the order, I won't repeat it." Elizabeth is a servant I've always considered absurdly useful because of a specific ability, Elizabeth can revive someone who has died.
She can do this once per person as long as the person who died has not been dead for more than 1 month, and as long as she has the body with her, of course I never expected I would die.
I actually want this ability of hers to use on "useful people", I usually don't send her to dangerous places precisely because Elizabeth's duty, despite being strong, is not to fight, but to revive people I order her to revive.
Of course, this ability is costly, with her usually only being able to use it once every two years, which means she should usually never spend this ability unless I order her to spend it.
"Understood, Esther-sama...I will do as ordered, I will collect all possible information about Evelyn, then I will send it to you every week, and if she dies, I will recover the body and revive her after bringing her back to the castle." Elizabeth respectfully speaks while disappearing, knowing that her mission has begun.
'Why am I doing this?...' I sit down in the chair, thinking about why I'm doing this, normally I would never use Elizabeth for something as futile as following Evelyn, and even spend her ability on Evelyn.
'Is this an apology? Am I apologizing to her for hurting her feelings? Why am I trying to apologize?' I'm confused about this, I can't get her hurt look out of my mind.
For some reason, Evelyn shakes me in a way that others don't, she seems...different, she's not like everyone else, she has something that makes her "unpredictable".
Although her goals and results are relatively predictable, her methods, personality, and everything else are different, unique, and fun to observe.
"She...seems different to me..." She is different from the others, she is different from our father, she is different from the other candidates for the throne, she is different from the nobles, demons, or anyone else.
"She seems...like me..." I'm on alert, wondering if she has something similar to my curse, something that allows her to know the truth of the world.
She is different from everyone else, but strangely reminds me of how I am, a unique being in the midst of trash and ruins.
"A diamond in the mud may be..." I murmur, thinking about her. Is she like me? Does she know the truth of the world that only I know? Does she understand this? But if she knows...why doesn't she do anything?
"Why does she just accept it? Does she really know the truth or not?" If she knows, I'll be furious, if she knows the truth just like I do, she should never accept this ridiculous outrage, if she knows the truth of the world as I do, she should try to kill everyone.
I notice that I've gripped the chair so hard that it cracked, I let go of it with a sigh, regaining my composure.
'I don't know if she knows or not...but I think it doesn't matter, what matters is that she's different...' I really...wish she was like me, I wish I wasn't alone in this, if she knows the truth of the world, but doesn't do anything, I would be angry, but also grateful to have another like me in this world.
"You won this one, Evelyn...I admit I'm sending Elizabeth to follow you and revive you if you die as an apology..." I murmur, admitting this, as odious as it is.
I still don't quite understand why, but I admit I didn't like her hurt look, and as compensation, I'm trying to give this little help, I guess practically no one would have this second chance at life if they died.
Of course, I could have Elizabeth protect her, but that would be ridiculous, first because it's not my problem if she gets hurt, and second, if she gets hurt, it's entirely her own fault, she could have stayed in the castle instead of trying to be an adventurer.
So what I'm doing is the maximum I can do as recompense for making her lose, and the espionage is standard, I spy on all the other candidates for the throne whenever I can.
And other candidates do this too, if Evelyn finds it annoying, then she should find a way to know if she's being spied on or not.
"I think I need some sweet tea with cookies" I need some good sweet tea and a book to read and stop thinking about this nonsense, I've already made enough retribution and now I can focus on myself again.
