The Smiling Death

Chapter 122: Amon Learn New Spells

Amon stood before the infirmary door, inhaling deeply.

He nodded to himself twice with a smile, then pushed the door.

The infirmary was quiet. Sunlight filtered through the large windows, filling the room with gentle warmth. Only one person cleaned the shelves in the corner, an assistant in neat white attire. Other than her, the place was empty.

At the corner near the window was a table. Professor Adelia sat gracefully, her bright green hair tied back loosely as she read through a stack of documents.

The soft golden glow wrapped around her like she was some holy healer descended from the heavens.

Amon cleared his throat and tried to look dignified, failing immediately. "H-Hello, Professor Adelia."

Adelia lifted her head. Her warm smile bloomed, soft yet radiant. "Amon. Good afternoon."

Just hearing her voice made Amon feel he gained HP and mental stability.

'Wait... we don't have HP in the status window.' He again thought some useless things.

"You finished your exams?" she asked, her tone gentle as a spring breeze.

"Yes!" Amon puffed his chest proudly. "Finally survived the week. Mind felt like it was melting."

Amon not often gave her visit from time to time. Just small talk. And she didn't mind it. Rather it seemed she enjoyed his company as well.

Adelia giggled softly, covering her lips with a hand, a delicate gesture that somehow stabbed Amon right in the heart. "Exams can be stressful. I'm glad you managed well."

Her assistant glanced over briefly, curious, recognizing this student again.

Amon leaned a bit forward. "Professor, I'm sure if I had you as my study mentor, I would've gotten full marks."

The assistant paused in wiping, suppressing laughter.

Adelia shook her head lightly, eyes warm. "Flattery won't change your scores. Still, I believe you will do good in the exam."

Amon chuckled happily. "Thanks Professor. Your words made me feel relieved."

This time, even Adelia chuckled softly. "You seem now in good mood. That's good."

He nodded vigorously. "Of course! After all, I came here to see my favorite professor after finishing exams."

Adelia blinked, and smiled kindly. "…My, that's very sweet of you."

Her smile was too beautiful and warm.

But then,

"Make sure you rest properly," she continued with a motherly tone. "And eat well. Don't spend all your free time running around causing trouble. I have heard how you make mess in classes."

Amon deflated instantly. "Ehh?! When did I ever–"

The assistant coughed from the corner.

"You are popular among the professors for... not so good reason... or say funny reason."

"Tch!" Amon clicked his tongue with annoyance.

Adelia giggled again. "Be nice, Amon."

"Yes, Professor…" he mumbled. For some reason he couldn't deny her. Of course Amon was by no way a simp.

But what could he do if the person in front of him was someone like Adelia.

He took a seat in front of her desk. "So… do professors also get break after exams?"

"We do," she replied, placing her document aside. "But we also prepare for the practical exams. They are far more demanding."

Amon stiffened. "R-Right… practical exams…"

Adelia smiled knowingly. "Nervous?"

"Terrified." He admitted instantly.

Adelia's eyes softened even more. "Don't worry. You've grown stronger since the first day. I believe you will do well."

Amon froze. 'This woman is angel. Just like Seraphina'

"You believe in me?"

"Of course."

Amon looked at her with resolved expression. "I will not disappoint you!"

Adelia blinked, amused. "Don't get too much hurt, please."

Amon nodded. Now he smiled sheepishly at her.

"So Professor Adelia~ since you say about preparing for Practical Exam. Do you know what it will be about? Any hint?"

Yes. This was the reason he had come here. Of course he knew this was pretty useless. There's no way a professor will disclose about exam.

But still what's wrong with trying.

Adelia kept smiling. "Oh my~ did you come to visit me for that? Hah... and here I thought you came here to meet me..." Her tone slowly turned sad at the end.

'Damnnit why's she acting like this.'

"No Professor. I have come to meet you. It's just I tried to ask you since... you just talk about preparing for Practical exam.. hhehe." Amon rubbed the back of his neck and laughed awkwardly.

Adelia started to giggle watching him.

"Alright alright, I know that. Also I can't tell you about exam... you should focus on getting stronger in this week."

Amon sighed. "Guess I need to work hard for this week."

Adelia watched him and thought something.

"Hey, it seems your mana had increased compared to before by a lot. I still remember, after the dungeon exploration practice, you were unconscious and possessed a very tiny amount of mana. But now it's bigger."

She said, as her eyes narrowed.

"Well that's true. My mana had increased. I worked very hard for it." Amon said proudly.

Adelia continued to stare at him. "Then, have you learned any advanced level spell?"

Amon blinked for few times. Now that he thought about it, he only knew basic level spells since his mana was too low.

But since drinking that potion provided by Selena had helped him increase his mana and other stats.

"Well... I haven't learned them yet."

She leaned forward.

She softly told him, "If I remember correctly... your elements are Shadow and Darkness.... there are some advanced spells that can be learned at Awakened level. Don't you learn it in Mana Theory and Magic Spell? I believe Professor Aria had teach them well."

Now Amon smiled awkwardly. He never paid attention in class. Even for written exam he had crammed all spells and answers. Not understanding what they are... just repeating them again and again to remember.

Adelia touched her cheek with her palm and sighed. She already understood the situation seeing Amon's face.

"Amon. You should pay attention in class. Now go and study them better. This with more understanding and learn them."

Amon nodded sincerely.

'I need to learn. This will be a small power up for me.' Amon clenched his fist in determination.

'I will ask Seraphina for help.'

Amon stood from his seat.

"Thanks Professor Adelia. Talking with you was fun and very helpful."

Adelia curved her lips. "I am glad. Now go and train. Practical Exam is just week ahead."

With a final bow to Adelia, Amon left the infirmary.
