The Smiling Death

Chapter 167: Ambush on Airship (1)

All the professors entered the control room.

"What happened?" Crystina asked with a serious tone.

"The systems of the airship are not working. Be it the radar, location tracer, or connection to the academy. It's as if there are strong jammers here, making our system useless," Michael, who was sitting beside Colt, explained.

"Yeah, only the controls to drive the airship are working," Colt continued while focusing ahead, but his expression was grim.

Crystina frowned.

"Let's check our pagers, just in case they are working or not."

At her words, Adelia, Asher, and Aria pulled out their pagers and checked them.

Adelia's expression paled. "It's not working."

"Mine as well," Aria said next to her.

"Same here," Asher had the same result.

Crystina exhaled and rubbed her temples. "It's not working. Seems we are under attack."

Adelia and the others nodded in understanding. Though the other staff were a little panicked, they controlled themselves.

Crystina turned to Colt. "Colt, activate all protection barri—"

Before she could complete her words, something collided against the airship with a loud impact.

THUDDDD!

The whole ship trembled from the impact. Crystina and the others nearly lost their balance, same for the crew.

"COLT, do it immediately!" this time Crystina yelled.

Colt and Michael tried their best. "We can't! The impact was too much. The airship is heavily damaged. It collided perfectly at the part where the main mechanism machines are constructed. We need to descend immediately to a safe place."

"Damn! This is bad," Aria grumbled.

Just then another fire cannon hit the airship from the other side.

This time a huge explosion occurred.

BOOM!

The whole ship trembled from it, this time more violently compared to before.

"Okay! Land the ship in an open space anywhere in the forest. We will just kill those bastards," Asher snapped, his cold eyes filled with rage.

All staff tried to handle the ship somehow.

"Yes. We have no other choice. The ship will fall later anyway," Colt confessed.

He saw a small empty space in Greenveil Forest. Its surroundings were filled with dense forest trees.

---

Meanwhile, on Amon's side.

"Fuck! Fuck! What happened now?"

Every student was panicking now.

Just some moments ago Amon was enjoying the scenery outside. How birds flew with their ship.

Suddenly, from the forest beneath them, something dark red and sphere-like emerged and shot toward their ship. It literally collided against it. If that was not enough, right after the first one, another came from the other side.

Most students had already drawn their weapons, including Amon and his friends.

"An ambush! We are under attack!"

"Why? Why is this happening!?"

"Oh no. Everything was right just yesterday. I don't want to die!"

Most students started to panic, remembering the incident that happened during dungeon practice.

Now someone again was attacking them, trying to kill.

Chaos engulfed the passenger cabin.

Students clutched their seats, some screamed, others jumped up with weapons half-drawn. The entire airship groaned as if it might tear apart at any moment.

Amon braced himself against the wall. "Shit… not again." His heartbeat thundered in his ears.

Just like everyone, the memory of the dungeon incident flashed through Amon's mind. Raw fear, helplessness, death so close he and others could almost taste it.

"The ship's shaking too much!"

"Is it falling down!?" Some students yelled.

Aisha snarled, fangs showing, her beastwoman instincts making her defensive. Eliana trembled but forced her hand steady on the string of her bow. Marcus's jaw tightened in anger.

The walls creaked as another wave of turbulence hit. The lights flickered violently.

Then.

"ENOUGH."

A single voice cut sharply through the noise.

Seraphina Luminous stood up, her golden eyes blazing with authority. She placed one hand on the railing to steady herself as the ship continued descending, but her expression remained composed. Almost unnervingly so.

Her voice rang out, clear and commanding:

"Panicking will only get us killed. Everyone—sit down, hold onto something, and stay calm."

Her confident tone spread through the cabin like a stabilizing force.

Amon exhaled slowly, relieved that someone had taken control.

Seraphina continued, loud enough for everyone to hear.

"The professors are handling the situation. The ship is descending, not falling. As long as we don't cause chaos or get in the staff's way, we'll survive this. So breathe. Focus."

Her words worked.

Students gradually returned to their seats, some trembling, some muttering to themselves, but the overwhelming panic began to subside.

Even the most fearful first-year looked at her with mixed awe and gratitude.

Aisha grumbled, "…Tch. She's right. Everyone shut up and sit."

Eliana nodded quickly. "We—we'll be okay. Just hold on."

Amon tightened his grip on the armrest. "Damn… good timing, Seraphina."

She really is cool. She handled it so well. Man, one day I will do the same. For now let others do it. Survival comes first.

Amon was holding his revolver, ready to shoot anytime.

Outside the window, the world was tilting.

Beneath the ship, the endless green canopy of Greenveil Forest approached fast.

The massive airship creaked, smoke trailing behind from its damaged engines. Sparks fell from one side. Wind howled outside like a furious beast.

The ship groaned again as it lowered altitude.

The pilot's voice echoed from the front:

"All students, brace for an emergency landing! Sit tight!"

Students gasped, grips tightening.

Amon shut his eyes for a moment.

"Great… just great. First giving us joy like we're in heaven, now the airship is crashing. My luck is a joke."

Amon felt it again today. His luck gives him amazing things and moments, but it also knows how to mess him up.

Seraphina shot him a quick side glance.

"Hold steady, Amon. We'll make it."

"...Yeah." He forced a grin. "I'm not planning to die today."

The airship continued its trembling descent. Straight toward the dense heart of Greenveil Forest.

---

The airship had already landed on the ground.

Dark smoke was coming out of the broken side of the ship, exploded by the attack.

Just then Adelia entered the passenger cabin where students were sitting.

Calm but still nervous.

She breathed in relief seeing that everyone was safe. No injuries for any student from the attack.

Then her expression hardened. "Everyone listen carefully. As you might already guess, we are under attack."

"What? So it's true," someone muttered.

"No way! This means… we are in real danger."

"Oh no, goddess…"

Adelia saw everyone panicking.

"Oh my sweet lovely goddess, please save me."
