The Smiling Death

Chapter 174: Lynira Vaelcres

Lynira dusted her foot off, smiling sweetly.

"Two down! Who's next?"

Her eyes slid toward Amon.

And she smiled wider.

"Aaaah… the little shadow boy. I've been quite curious about you. That little shadow of yours moves so cute~"

'Shitt! What is this crazy woman saying!?'

Marcus gritted his teeth and dashed toward her. Fire swirled around the crimson spear, ready to burn everything in its way.

[Flaming Spiral]

His spear thrust forward. A spiral of orange, hot fire formed at the tip of his spear like a tornado.

He thrust forward. But Lynira vanished with a chuckle.

His eyes widened in alarm. The flaming spiral shot forward, colliding against a nearby tree.

BOOM!

And Lynira was standing behind Marcus.

"Nice move, boy!" She grabbed his collar and threw him at the same charred tree where his attack had landed just moments ago. She threw him so easily, as if he were made of feathers.

Marcus didn't even touch the ground before his back exploded against the charred tree trunk.

CRAAACK!

The impact sent a burst of splinters flying as he slid down, coughing violently, flames flickering weakly around him.

Aisha roared, mana bursting from her legs.

Her beastwoman instincts screamed at her to run. But her pride as a warrior pushed her forward.

She leapt with a feral slash, claws glowing with bright blue mana, gauntlet shining.

"RAA—!"

Lynira didn't even turn. She stood leisurely, as if the incoming attack was nothing.

She tilted her head.

Aisha didn't see the movement. Only felt a hand clamp around her face.

"Hmph~ feisty puppy. A wolf beastmen. As usual, just like a puppy."

SLAM!

Lynira smashed Aisha into the ground headfirst. Cruelly. The ground shattered.

The soil cracked. Dust exploded.

Aisha gasped, her body twitching from shock. Before she could even recover.

BAM!

Lynira kicked her sideways, sending her crashing into Eliana.

Both girls tumbled together, groaning.

Eliana tried to raise her bow.

—but her hand shook too violently.

Her vision blurred.

'She's… she must be at least fourth rank. An Adapt Expert.'

Lynira didn't care if anyone heard her giggle.

"It's like beating up dolls! So easy to toss around—hehe~! I always enjoy it."

Then her eyes turned to Amon.

"Hey shadow boy~ what's your name, cutie~?"

A shiver ran down Amon's spine.

She literally beat all his friends in just a minute.

While he couldn't even see her movements.

How was he supposed to attack her?

Amon forced a smile. "Hehe~ Big sister. My name is Amon. Big sister, it's not a good thing for someone as strong as you to beat weaklings like us."

Lynira turned toward him slowly, savoring the terror around her like perfume.

"Aaaamon~ Nice name. Also, I don't like good things. So I will continue to beat you guys—hehe~" she sang softly.

His heartbeat thundered painfully.

But before she could reach him.

Arnold staggered back into the fight.

Blood leaked from his mouth. Ribs broken. Sword trembling.

He dashed at her like a shooting star, shining particles flying from his body.

He swung with everything he had left.

Lynira raised a single finger and tapped his blade.

PING.

The steel vibrated violently. And shattered into glittering fragments.

Arnold froze.

Lynira smiled.

"Cute effort." Her voice mocking.

WHAM.

Her palm struck his jaw and sent him flipping backward, unconscious before he hit the ground.

One by one… the students lay broken, gasping, bleeding on the forest floor.

Only Amon remained sitting upright. Barely. Vision blurring.

Lynira dusted her hands, humming like she'd just finished a game.

"Well~ that was fun," she whispered joyfully. "But I still have one more toy to break."

Her gaze drifted toward the shattered tree.

Where Seraphina lay slumped, coughing blood, barely breathing.

She moved again. This time toward Amon.

His instincts warned him.

But before he could even raise his sword to block the attack,

Her fist was already thrust against his chest.

She smiled under her mask.

Amon screamed in pain. "AHHHH!"

His heart nearly stopped beating from the attack.

She didn't let Amon fly back. Just after the punch, she instantly grabbed his shirt.

Then Lynira's left hand moved. She punched him on the cheek.

"Aarrgghh!" It wasn't as strong as the first punch, but still Amon's face turned to the side in pain.

His cheek swelled instantly.

Blood dripped from his mouth.

His eyes turned hazy.

He was on the brink of falling unconscious.

Lynira threw him aside.

Thud!

Amon's body hit the ground and rolled.

Lynira brushed her hands together.

Everything had happened in just a few minutes.

Then she looked at Seraphina again.

Lynira walked toward her with slow, eager steps. As if savoring every second.

A dagger materialized in her hand in a shimmer of purple mana, thin and deadly.

"Oh, Seraphinaaa~ Top student of Arcadia…" she sang mockingly. "Time to see if your heart is as golden as your aura~"

Seraphina's eyes widened weakly.

Amon's blurry gaze shifted to her.

Amon tried to crawl forward, reaching out.

"Don't… touch… her…"

Lynira ignored him completely.

She raised the dagger.

Her smile widened.

But then.

FWOOOSH—!!

A golden and red streak tore through the forest.

Searing light slammed toward Lynira at blinding speed.

Amon didn't even register who it was.

The two hooded men didn't react at all.

But Lynira's eyes widened slightly.

"Oh?"

She turned, raising her dagger out of instinct.

KAAA-CHIIIIING!!

A gauntlet covered in blinding golden light and red fire crashed into her dagger, sparks exploding violently.

The force ripped Lynira backward across the forest floor, her feet carving deep grooves into the soil before she stabilized.

The light faded.

Revealing Professor Adelia Evangeline, hair whipping wildly in the mana wind, her yellow eyes burning with wrath.

Her long green hair floated in the air, defying gravity.

Her body radiated pure heat. Fire and light melding together around her.

Amon's breath caught.

"P–Prof… Adelia…?" he whispered.

She didn't look at him or anyone else.

Her killing intent was suffocating.

Her voice was low, icy, and terrifying.

"You," she growled at Lynira.

"How dare you touch my students."
