"Who am I?" Ethan smiled faintly and took a slow sip of tea.
"I think Sect Master Kara should already know me. Take a closer look."
His tone was light, almost lazy, as if this were a casual late-night visit rather than a deadly intrusion.
"Presumptuous!"
Morwen's anger flared instantly. Her blood surged, heat rushing to her limbs.
"Master, this isn't right. Let this disciple test him first," she transmitted urgently.
"He might just be pretending to be mysterious!"
"No." Kara's voice was firm and cold. She stepped forward and spread her arms, blocking Morwen behind her.
"If anyone tests him, it will be me. You stay back."
"Noisy."
Ethan frowned slightly, impatience flickering across his eyes.
He snapped his fingers.
A strand of gray-blue flame tore through the darkness like a silent thunderbolt.
Morwen didn't even have time to scream.
Her neck went numb. Her vision shattered into white fragments. Her body twitched twice, as if struck by lightning, and then collapsed limply to the ground.
Her consciousness sank instantly into darkness.
By the time Kara reacted, Morwen was already lying motionless on the floor.
Her pupils shrank violently.
Too fast.
So fast that even her Supreme-level perception couldn't capture the trajectory of that attack. There was no killing intent, no warning—just absolute suppression.
"What did you do?" Kara demanded, her voice tight.
"I did nothing." Ethan replied calmly.
"She talked too much. I merely let her sleep."
Kara knelt quickly, checking Morwen's pulse and meridians.
Alive.
Breathing steady.
But every extraordinary meridian and acupoint was sealed cleanly and precisely. Her disciple was now no different from an unconscious mortal.
Kara slowly set Morwen down and rose to her feet.
Her gaze toward Ethan was no longer merely vigilant—it was heavy with dread.
"Who… are you?" she asked, each word measured.
"And why are you here?"
Ethan looked at her and smiled.
"Do you really not recognize me?"
Kara's brows knit together. Her mind raced.
Then—
"Azure Origin Dao Sect."
Ethan placed the teacup down gently.
Kara's body stiffened.
Memories surged forward: intelligence reports, shadow portraits, whispered rumors carried by spies across territories.
Her eyes widened.
"You…"
She pointed at him, her voice dropping into a hoarse whisper.
"Ethan. You are Ethan."
"Clever," Ethan said lightly.
"There's no need to whisper. I sealed the space before you even noticed me. No sound escapes."
He stood up and walked toward her.
Each step was unhurried, but the pressure on Kara's chest grew heavier with every pace, as if invisible mountains were stacking on her shoulders.
"You should be wondering," Ethan said softly, "why I'm here."
"Aren't you in Skyreach Territory?" Kara asked sharply.
"Why are you in the Demon Territory?"
"You demons cross borders freely," Ethan replied indifferently.
"Why can't I?"
Kara's eyes flickered.
"You're here for the Training Trial," she said.
Ethan smiled.
"Since you already guessed it, you should also know what comes next."
His eyes held no emotion now—only cold calculation.
"You want the Sage Token," Kara said.
"That's right." Ethan extended his palm.
"Hand it over."
Kara laughed bitterly.
"If I give it to you, will you spare the lives of me and my disciple?"
Ethan tilted his head slightly, as if amused.
"Sect Master Kara," he said slowly,
"Your Black Demon Sect and my Azure Origin Dao Sect are enemies who fight to the death."
"There's no need to ask such childish questions."
"Give me the Sage Token, and I will leave your bodies intact."
"Otherwise—"
He suddenly leaned forward.
Their faces were less than an inch apart.
Kara's breath hitched.
From pure, instinctive fear.
"Isn't the Azure Origin Dao Sect known as a righteous sect?" Kara said coldly, forcing steadiness into her voice.
"How did it cultivate someone like you?"
Ethan laughed softly.
"Hahaha… Sect Master Kara speaks sharply."
"I never said the Azure Origin Dao Sect was righteous."
"In this world, doing whatever benefits you most is the only righteousness."
"The era where a single 'upright' cultivator could shame the world with words is long gone."
"I will take Azure Origin Dao Sect to its peak—with blood if necessary."
His voice hardened.
"You are a Supreme Demon Lord. You and your disciple represent the future of the Black Demon Sect."
"If I erase both of you tonight, the Black Demon Sect will fracture completely."
Kara snorted.
"Blackspire Mountain is not weak. Our demon sects are countless. The Black Demon Sect is nothing more than one single sect."
"Behind us stand dozens of demon sects. Above them all stands the Heavenly Demon Sect."
She stared straight into Ethan's eyes.
"The Demon Supreme of the Heavenly Demon Sect has already stepped into the Perfect Supreme Realm."
"You, Ethan, no matter how talented, are nothing but an ant before him!"
"After this Training Trial, Blackspire Mountain will march into Skyreach Territory."
"We will make your human cultivators remember what fear truly means."
Ethan squinted his eyes.
For a brief moment, something sharp flickered through them.
"So," he said quietly, "after the Training Trial, Blackspire Mountain plans to invade Skyreach Territory?"
He chuckled.
"Sect Master Kara, are you truly foolish—or are you trying to disturb my thoughts?"
"You just revealed something very interesting."
"Aren't you afraid others would call you a traitor?"
Kara laughed coldly.
"If I fall into your hands, I'm dead anyway."
"I only want you to understand this—"
"Even if I die tonight, Blackspire Mountain will avenge me."
Ethan smiled faintly.
"Avenge you?"
"No one will know how you died."
"And no one will avenge you."
"Now," his voice dropped into a blade-sharp whisper, "hand over the Sage Token."
Kara's shoulders trembled.
At last, she exhaled slowly.
"Fine."
"I'll give it to you."
"But spare my disciple."
Her eyes flicked toward Morwen's unconscious form, filled with unwilling despair.
Before her ambition could bloom... Everything was ending here.
"What a joke," Ethan said softly.
His eyes turned cold.
He suddenly reached out and grabbed Kara by the throat.
"This is not a negotiation," he said flatly.
"It's an order."
Kara's feet lifted slightly off the ground.
Her vision darkened at the edges.
Then—
She laughed weakly.
"Haha…"
"The Sage Token…"
"It's carved from a piece of jade."
