The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World

Chapter 145: The First Staff Member!

[Application has been accepted]

[Please accept the non-betrayal clause: You cannot harm, betray, or act in deliberate deceit against the innkeeper or the establishment. Further, you shall not knowingly assist those who would bring harm to the Inn or its residents.

[Even after the employment contract expires, the staff member cannot disclose any sensitive information about the Innkeeper or the Inn to anyone.]

[Failure to comply is to sacrifice something of high value to the oath-taker.]

[Do you accept this oath? Yes| No]

He was curious how this was implemented, though nothing else. While it sounded scary, it really meant nothing if one wasn't planning on doing anything bad.

Of course, he accepted.

Finn smiled.

[Congratulations! Durgan Vols has officially become a Staff Member!]

[Staff Roster]

[Name: Durgan Vols | Race: Half human, half dwarf | Age: 49 | Level: Toughened Tier 3 | Status: Tired | Task: Butcher, Hunter | Duration of Working: 0 days | Salary: 2 G | Mood: Pleased | Natural Skills: Blacksmithing | System Inn Skiils: None]

As for the blacksmithing skills, it was not available yet. He assumed it'd appear when the workshop appeared.

Well, no matter, he was just happy they got a new companion in this lonely place!

The party finally prepared to leave an hour later, with the three embracing the old man, while also giving him various looks that were supposed to make him feel guilty (spoiler alert: he wasn't).

"Thanks to you, we'll have to find a new tank," Leiah said, looking at Finn with a bit of mirth.

"Well, I'm sure you guys can find a new trustworthy guy. I'm sure no one is perfect from the start," he said. "It's better to know more people than fewer, anyway.

"Be sure to visit us again, yeah? We'll be waiting for you guys!"

The group watched the trio leave the barrier, entering the forest to go home.

"I'll miss them," Durgan said. "We've been together all the time the past few years, it feels odd.

Anyway, soon after that, the notification for completed transitions was finally sent. They were less than Ren and the others' because they only spent a night. Still…it was really not bad.

After they left, everyone went to work. Finn started cooking batches again in order to sell to the [Hearth Market], while the other three did various tasks for the Inn.

There was also still a lot of meat, bones, and skin to handle, and they worked on that. They also had to tend to the gardens, which had already started to bloom, proving just how quickly plants would grow in the gardens!

It was unprecedented, actually, especially for the uprooted plants.

Adorably, the goblins also guided Durgan about the work done in the gardens.

For the items to be sold to the Hearth Inn, only meat was the surplus ingredient, so his offerings were mostly meat dishes. However, he also wanted to sell a few bowls of the noodles, so he made some. It was his first C-class dish, and he wanted to see how much it'd sell.

Sure enough, a small bowl of Class C Essence Food was worth more than others. It could sell for 5 gold! He was really tempted to do more experiments, but his supply of harvested bindergrain was limited.

(That said, he should add another garden or two exclusively using bindergrains.)

Anyway, including the noodles, he could sell a few essence food accepted by the Hearth Market. E-class wasn't counted, but he fortunately had a lot of D-class meals in his repertoire.

For D-class dishes, he had Braised Brindlejaw with Purplestep Glaze and Sunberry Leaf Dust, Hearty Matis-stew with Thornroot and Basilume, Thornroot flat bread with Shredded and pulled Brindlejaw meat, Sunberry-Veilroot Egg Skillet, Seared herbed Gugu Bird with thornroot mash with Matis glaze, Spiced Brindlejaw and Gugu Bird Roll, Stewed Gugu bird, and Dawnfire Rolls.

Due to material limitations, he wasn't able to do everything. It wasn't practical, and he should also consider waste. He had no lack of meat now, but the other things, like fruits and herbs, were finite and would take time to forage and/or farm.

Overall, he earned a bit of gold in today's batch. He needed to save up a bit to buy more rooms. Also, even if he still had nearly a year left, there was still the debt hanging over his head. How could he be completely relaxed with that?

Should he buy two new bedrooms now? This way, he could gather more gold every day. But he didn't even have customers every day yet.

Interestingly, speaking of accommodations, Ranran created something new that day as well. He immediately used his [Assessment] skill to check its functions.

[Basic Tent]

[Information: Durable temporary shelter made from the tanned hide of a Toughened Hoovensore beast. Increases recovery by 2% for 30 minutes, reduces visibility to monsters' toughened rank and below by approximately 20%.]

"Wow…with this, we can set up camping areas here or sell the tents! All this skin would not be wasted!"

"Good job, Ranran!" Finn exclaimed, raising her up high. The little goblin sparkled. "YAY!"

Tumble also joined in, jumping up and down. "Go, go, Ranran!"

With this, they…could earn more money!

After all, the inn itself had limited space, and the best he could do was add double-deckers. However, he knew his Inn was really good (the good reviews built up his confidence), so there would be more customers eventually.

This meant that even if he got rich and maxed out the rooms, he might not be able to accommodate everyone. Having a tent-with-effect like this was just what he needed!
