All four of them worked together on the signages. Finn and Durgan were in-charge of gathering the trees, Tumble was in-charge of making the body, and Ranran was in-charge of varnishing.
Durgan was also the one to write, simply because the goblins were illiterate, while Finn couldn't write well. Somehow, auto translation of the language was installed in his mind, and he could read local literature too, but writing was a totally different beast.
It was much like watching a sport and knowing all its rules, knowing when it was a good shot or something, but not actually proficient in doing it yourself.
Hours passed like this with everyone a bit sweaty and grimy from work. Amusingly, Durgan's beard was tied into a bun. It made Finn curious since he saw it.
In the end, after a while, Finn couldn't help but comment. "Full blood dwarves have long beards, right? Do beards mean something different to you guys?" he asked, and Durgan nodded.
"For dwarves, our hair—facial for men and head hair for women—is an integral part of us, y'see." This was something Durgan knew from his father, not long before he passed away. He often told him about various stories about dwarves, their struggles, and their customs.
"Dwarven hair does not regrow easily, y'see, and it grows very slowly as they age," he paused. "The worst punishment in dwarven communities is not death, but shaving the hair."
"Whoa."
He smiled. "I am fortunate that my father settled down in my mother's place, which was mostly humans. I also inherited her hair situation, thank goodness." He meant the regrowth capability, of course, not that his mother had a beard.
"Hey, if a dwarf hears you saying things like this, what would they do?"
"Slap me with his beard, I suppose."
The two laughed, continuing with their carpentry projects for the rest of the day.
The signs they made were about half the size of a door, also designed to be as sturdy as possible, and could withstand direct hits from monsters. Well, to a degree.
"Not bad, la~" Pang said, nodding. As expected of someone granted [Advanced Carpentry] Skills. They could really turn typical wood into actual defensive weapons!
Tumble blushed. "Thank you, Master Spirit."
The staff members could hear Pang now, apparently, since he spent an accumulated amount of 10,000 Hearth Points or something.
Finn only found out the others could hear earlier that day, in fact, when Pang was having a perfectly sound conversation with the goblins while munching breakfast, with the goblins putting more food on his plate!
At the time, he narrowed his eyes at Pang, who just shrugged.
"Why are you so surprised?" he had asked. "They're part of the staff now. Of course, they can hear me. How am I supposed to make them do things for me?"
In an annoying way… that actually made sense.
At this, he couldn't help but look at the staff members in pity.
"..."
Anyway, at some point, a few monsters arrived again. As part of his training, Finn handled it on his own. However, Durgan was right next to him, prepared to shield him. If the monster is toughened rank, then the halfling would deal with that, too.
Otherwise, Durgan's main task was to take the meat and butcher it, allowing Finn to completely focus on the battles at hand.
It was a super-efficient system, and Finn ended up killing 12 awakened-tier monsters in half an hour.
More employees are really the best!
…
Finn fought off the monsters, which were fortunately just awakened level, so he could handle them himself, even when he was panting a bit after a while. He could get Durgan to help, but it was overkill, and he didn't want to be too dependent on him.
He had a few snacks in his space to eat, ensuring that his recovery was decent and stacking up with the inn effects. Pang set him a quota of gathering 3 cores—which was equivalent to fighting around 30 monsters—every day anyway, which was not too hard.
He finished this batch after about an hour, gathering two cores. After placing them in his space, he checked his staff on their progress, though Durgan had already stopped to help butcher the meat he had killed.
While he was fighting, they made a total of 52 signs, maximizing the materials they had. According to their little green master carpenter, its stability was enhanced and would last much longer than typical signs.
They put those aside to dry. According to Tumble, the varnish should dry out in another day or two.
In the meantime, they did other things. Ranran, other than producing the sleeping bags, would also replenish the flower displays in the inn, making sure they were as fresh as possible. Fortunately, the inn's regeneration function worked on plants, too, so the flowers lasted much, much longer than they would've outside of the inn.
Ranran was also the one in charge of the other domestic stuff, such as arranging things and cleaning things that the Inn's function could not.
Pang was in charge of activating certain functions as needed (though with limits, otherwise his hearth points would get drained). Durgan was in charge of the cleanup of the carcasses. Finn taught them how to compost some wastes, including monster body parts, and they would be good for plants—if properly processed, of course.
They were already doing composting, but animal carcasses could also be used, at least certain parts, and had to be prepared to meet certain conditions.
Finn, Durgan, and Tumble then moved on to the gardens to help him out with this. Finn created a few more manual gardens, lining up the entire rear easement of the territory.
These gardens were enhanced with these fertilizers. He didn't want to be too dependent on the system gardens, as great as they were, because he had purchase limits. Considering his vision for the inn, the current limits for the gardens was not enough.
If monsters end up on this side, they'd just lure them to other areas. It was too much to waste space on an easement to fight in. Anyway, it wasn't like the area wouldn't expand upon upgrade.
In the new gardens, they planted the vegetation specifically used to make his sauces and spices, like the nettleflame, the basilume herb, veinroots, and so on.
He had seen how popular the sauces were with the guests. He was thinking of selling bottles in his makeshift shop.
It would definitely be a good business opportunity for him and yet another source of the all-important funds.
