The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World

Chapter 229: First Batch of Splurging

Before doing anything, of course, he had to check his stats as well.

A lot of money and a lot of hearth points (which he got from Victor's visit back then), and it felt so good to see.

Ah, goodbye poverty!

He then looked at the dashboard as soon as he stepped into his property line.

He was surprised by the reputation spike. Since it probably spiked when he visited Lotus Town, it seemed like a point counted to whoever knew of it. It seemed like Micc and the others really told a lot of people about the inn, and it was quite convincing to some.

Ah, before that, he paid for his debts first. He clicked on the [Mission] Tab and finally got rid of the damned debt! Since he had the money, there was no way he was risking it and waiting for interest to start collecting in a few months!

[Mission 'Clear your Debts' : Cleared!]

It felt like a massive burden was lifted from his shoulders.

It was like he had been suffering and pushing himself in the gym, running at 7.5km/hr 10% incline treadmill with weights, and he was finally allowed to slow down the speed, lower the incline, and remove the damned weights.

[Time Bonus Received! Permanent Increase in Mental Strength 10%]

[New Hearth Mission Activated]

[Active Mission: Mass Upgrades]

[Information: Let the Inn witness 100 Rank Ups

Rewards: 50,000 Hearth Points]

Oh. That's pretty huge.

That said, it wouldn't be easy. The description meant rank up, not tier up, and each rank could take years.

Finn had always gone for the easiest paths (because that would give him more time to eat and cook), so he immediately came up with a way to hasten what would've been a years-long process.

What was the best way to attract people to attempt their upgrades here?

Propaganda.

Well, should it still be called propaganda if it was true? The more apt term might be 'enlightenment', instead.

If one could have ready access to cores without having to travel for days, wouldn't that mean they could get more cores to convert?

Besides, the Inn itself had recovery functions which could, theoretically, allow these people to absorb even more than they physically could!

Wasn't the inn and his essence food the very things that allowed him to survive his awakening and made his upgrades after that easier? It could be done for others, too!

He had to spread out that whenever people felt like they were going to rank up, they must do it in the Inn for maximum efficiency and increased chances of survival!

He could even create an 'Upgrade Package' for people at the peak of their ranks, wherein he'd include all three essence meals to further improve their chances.

Anyway, for now, he settled in with the new customers and the new staff members.

They had limited rooms, but all rentable rooms had double deckers, so they managed to room a decent fraction of them. They decided to do rotations too, with the other half camping with their mats and tents.

As for the staff members, they had squeezed two double deckers in the staff room before, but since they were five now, he temporarily opened up his room and added two more double deckers there for the future.

Anyway, he was planning on buying upgraded rooms for him and Syl (separate, of course! Maybe) so he wouldn't be staying there for long.

The two brothers also accepted his recruitment and became official staff members. They were still gaping at the place and then at the beasts that could not approach them, no matter how hard they tried, when they received the offers.

They read through the rules and instructions, though they had already accepted everything in their hearts.

[System detected that staff #4 Micc Leshon has some talent in culinary arts. Would you like to grant Intermediate Cooking for 800 Hearth Points? Yes | No]

He looked at Pang, who said that at this stage, the cosmos would tap into a person's potential.

Not to mention, even if he did learn advanced cooking, he might still not be able to surpass Finn, whose talents were so deep that even the slightest subtle taste had meaning.

Anyway, Micc was surprised to see the notification.

"This…"

"Means you'll get a few skills helpful for cooking," he said. "Most of those are only applicable within the territory though, so I do recommend you learn deeply so it can still be applied outside."

Haohao looked at him. He smiled. "Well, your skill should appear sometime soon," he said. "For now, help out Durgan in their work."

He smiled, patting the new assistant cook's shoulder. "Now… let's go make these people some food."
