The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World

Chapter 231: Good Food!

Old Man Zenno's team was one of the better-off adventurer teams in Lotus Town. This was because Zenno was strict, but very street-smart and rarely missed opportunities.

One of the reasons was that he had a sharp nose. Literally!

Zenno, followed by his team, entered the inn and gaped at the feast. The food was served in large containers, but they were arranged neatly and scrumptuously.

Just looking at the food, on top of being hit by the aroma, made their throats dry up. They knew that only eating these heavenly blessings could sate them.

The innkeeper smiled, pointing at the side of the table where the plates and utensils were lined up. "Please get a plate and take what you need," he said. "The Adventurer's Guild sponsored this trip, so you can eat what you want."

This surprised the team members and then silently thanked the guild in their hearts, swearing to work harder for it! Zenno, on the other hand, smiled a bit. He had an inkling about what the young innkeeper was trying to do, and he had to say he was impressed.

Where did the Elders find a treasure like this?

Anyway, Zenno (and followed by the others) took a plate and the utensils, with Finn occasionally guiding him through the unfamiliar—but scrumptious-looking—dishes.

Gulp

They couldn't all fit in the dining table, so some ate in the living room, some in the tables and chairs outside, and some in the camping grounds. They all settled as near to the building as possible though, so they could get back as soon as possible to get more!

There were also people like Quin who lost out on seats and ended up sitting on the porch next to the door, not that he minded much. His eyes were fixed on his tray and his pupils were dilated so much.

Gulp

Just the scent made him satisfied with life.

The soup was mildly nutty and earthy, with smooth richness when blended. The herbs added soothing herbal notes to each taste. It was velvety and creamy, and the spices added aromatic freshness that lingered, making people want to eat spoonful after spoonful.

Finn—who sat on the dining table— smiled at everyone before he took a sip of the soup himself. It was comforting and warm. In terms of taste, it reminded him of potato-leek soup, especially its silkiness.

He then took the bindergrain crisp and dunked it in the soup, adding a bit of change in texture, adding crunch and chewiness, which in turn added to the experience. It also controlled the savoriness and prevented people from getting tired of the taste too quickly.

Some others saw this and followed, and did it again, obviously liking the result.

The meat was delicious too. They knew it was brindlejaw, but they didn't think it could ever be so soft, chewy, and tasty!

The meat was bold and had a strong umami taste, hitting the deep savory taste that made people want more. Combined with the delicious salad, it added a tart-sweet contrast which they didn't expect!

The dessert and drinks put them all together, and it had to be said to be the most satisfying meal they had so far.

Many of them asked for seconds, offering to pay, and he said the Guild covered the cost for this, and they should thank the elders when they headed back instead.

This was a win-win. Not only could the inn make maximum impact in these people's memories and experiences, it would also encourage the elders—after seeing the positive effects and their reputation spike—to send more adventurers to this place! Haha!

"This is delicious," Quin said, on his third return. "Thank you for feeding us."

Finn smiled. "Would you like to have meals like this during your stay?"

"What? Well, I gathered a lot of cores—"

Finn shook his head and looked at Zenno instead. "The Guild paid me an advance. Would you like me to open the kitchen?"

"It means the adventurers are free to eat whatever is available, whenever they want, though we'd record the team's consumption for the Elders to see. They could also request, but that'd depend on availability and the knowledge of the cook."

"This will be upon your approval, of course."

"SAY YES, CAPTAIN!"

Zenno was tempted to agree without thought, but since this was the guild's money he could not be too careless.

So instead, he turned it into a reward. "Then… whoever could show me 10 new and unique cores per day could get all three meals sponsored by the guild!!"

They would keep their cores, just that they needed to prove the number of monsters they killed for the day through them.

Anyway, ten cores per day meant at least 100 monsters per day! But who cared? They'd drag monsters in this area if they had to!

For food!

Finn chuckled in satisfaction as the guests filled themselves up and then headed back to the fight afterward. Soon, they got busy with training again, and Finn and the rest prepared some snacks and refreshments as well.

People would attract monsters there by themselves, and if they got too tired, they'd head in for some food or for some rest. Even outside the rooms, the inn itself had a bonus regeneration effect, so many of them would hang around in the living room during breaktime, while those who were lucky enough to get rooms would take naps.

Speaking of rooms, it was time to finally maximize the number of rooms! Now that he had no lack of gold, how could he not maximize it? It was just that he was surrounded by people earlier that he couldn't make changes. Now, he could at least hide in his room while everyone was busy fighting.

He could choose to do it later that night, but he'd explain the new rooms regardless, and it'd be a pity to lose those tens of gold of rental fees tonight just because he made unnecessary delays.

Finn entered his room and rubbed his hands together.

Improved Bedroom, here he comes!
