The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World

Chapter 251: Finn’s Improved Cooking!

Within the next couple of hours, the four people came to know more and more about the inn's features. First of all, they only had to rest a few hours and a significant amount of their stats had recovered!

Then they would head out to the barrier, following the examples they saw from the staff before, and start to incorporate it in their fighting styles!

The productivity was beyond their imagination. As long as there were enough monsters, they could meet their deadline in a fraction of the time! Then, if they got tired again, they would just sleep again for a couple of hours! If they had regeneration items, they could use those too, and the effect would be multiplied!

Speaking of this, the rooms' recovery rates were insane. Better than the temple's!

Imagine: something with the functions of a temple in the middle of the danger zone? How was this place not famous?!

Anyway, the entirety of the following day, the guards' tasks changed from defending the masters to running out and attracting more beasts!

The two of them separated ways, holding the smelliest parts of the beast's carcass (including intestines) and even bled themselves, and they attracted scores and scores of monsters within an hour.

And sure enough, after another hour, they managed to kill what would normally take them half a day of back-breaking work!

"This is amazing!!" Arthur gasped, and the other three, while less energetic, had bright eyes that expressed their agreement.

"If we keep this up, we'll be able to finish tomorrow!" Arthur said, very excited. His brother looked at him.

"We don't have potions anymore, remember?" The usual estimate couldn't count anymore because they'd get tired and run out of stamina and mana even if they maintained good HP.

They could also come in and rest again, but they wanted to set a record, so they didn't want to sleep when the sun was still high up.

"We can buy more of those snacks…" Arthur mumbled. He quite liked those protein bars…

Sadly, when they entered the [Inn Shop], it was empty. It was emptied by them, of course, but they had hoped it was replenished by now!

"When will it be replenished?" they asked the limping earth mage, who was in charge of the concierge at this time.

"Ah, the stock of that depends on the boss's mood. He's busy in his seclusion cooking right now, so…"

They frowned. This meant he could not be bothered. It was a bad attitude for customers, but considering how unbelievable everything was, it was hard to feel offended by whatever the owner of such a place could do.

Arthur rubbed his blonde head, looking around for inspiration. He paused when he looked at the buildings on the other side of the plaza.

"Hey, those shops… I didn't notice it before, but…"

There were just so many things going on that they thought those buildings were just part of the inn. Not to mention, they weren't lit up the previous night, so they didn't take notice of them.

They belatedly noticed the wooden signs. One was a hammer crossed with a sword, and another was the familiar shape of a potion bottle.

"Wait a minute—"

They looked at them in disbelief.

A smithy and a potion store?! Here?

"This…"

The group immediately entered the stores, especially the pharmacy, first. Durgan, the dutiful staff, sighed and put away his work to guide them.

"They're basic, but they should be useful for awakened people."

"Are there more stocks?"

"It also depends on the master's mood."

"Excuse me?

"Alchemy isn't his priority right now."

"..."

"So the owner is a cook and also an alchemist?"

Durgan nodded as if it were something normal.

"We also still lack some plants for a lot of production anyway."

As for Haurus, he was frequenting the smithy more. They could at least repair weapons and stuff here, even if they did not have new materials.

"What materials do you need?"

Ravin looked at him, giving him a meaningful stare. "Our territory happened to be famous for its herbs."

Durgan blinked, eyebrows rising. He nodded, a little excited. "Then we'll talk with our boss."

"He instructed us not to bother him, though, so I recommend you take a rest or continue with your tasks. We will call you when he's open to talk…we can't guarantee it'll be soon."

"I see…"

"Well, we can just stay in the barrier and rest as needed. Even without potions, our pace would still be remarkable."

Yeah, now that they thought about it, there was no reason to push too hard. Let things go as they should at their own pace. They'd probably still break the record regardless.

As they entered the building to head to their rooms, a burst of fragrance smacked them in the face. It triggered their appetite, and they felt as if their stomachs were goading them, seducing them to eat.

What was this? They were so hungry again! They had just eaten a few hours ago!

Their pace hurried to go to the kitchen, to see the graceful cook doing his job again. How could anyone cook like this? It was like he was performing naturally, yet the movements didn't feel wasteful.

They watched as a few plates of food were placed on the kitchen island. They looked luscious and saliva-inducing, and they watched him garnish them as if sprinkling magic dust, elevating the appearances even more.

Gulp

The chef looked at the plates and nodded. "There, this should be enough for the staff's meal this evening," he said. He raised his head to call the nearest staff but paused when he saw a few unfamiliar audience.

"Guests?" he asked, and they nodded almost immediately, their eyes on the food he just made.

"I see…" he looked at Durgan. "Can you call the others? Tell them dinner is ready."

The guests gaped as they watched the staff head over to the kitchen, taking their plates after thanking their boss. They asked Finn to eat with them, of course, but Finn had already eaten more than enough while he was experimenting.

The guests were still surprised to be ignored, but at the same time, they were being too seduced by the fragrance to feel angry about anything.

"You're…a good boss," was all Arthur could say while the others nodded.

At this, the staff nodded vehemently. "The Best Boss!"

"Yeah! The best!"

Finn chuckled, shaking his head. He thought they were exaggerating, but did not really decline the compliments. After all, he knew they really meant them. He'd just have to do his best to keep being worthy of their words.
