A banquet like this almost inevitably entails extravagance and waste.
But for her to say so suggests she retains such habits in daily life.
Louis shook his head, drained the wine from the glass in one gulp, and placed the empty glass onto the waiter's tray:
"This way, it won't be wasted."
...
After the banquet, Louis and the little swan boarded Olivia's carriage.
In the carriage, Olivia watched the two warily.
"Why are we heading to Sister Wang's place?"
Louis blinked and said:
"You mentioned you wanted to talk to me, and it's not wise for me to meet you privately, what if people overthink it?"
Olivia looked disgusted:
"Who would overthink? Lumi is with us!"
Louis didn't respond.
He couldn't possibly tell the little swan that she and the black swan shared a brain, and being too close might affect the black swan's thoughts, right?
So he flashed a sly smile:
"No choice, after chatting with you, I plan to send you away and monopolize my Beatrice alone."
Beside him, Beatrice opened her eyes instinctively.
She showed a hint of helplessness:
"Stop fooling around, we need a good rest tonight. We have to return tomorrow!"
Louis coughed.
With so many duties and such a tight schedule, it's certainly hindering couples from enhancing their relationship.
However, Beatrice slightly parted her lips, seemingly mouthing, "I'll reward you once we're back."
She even deliberately made a "pop" sound with her rosy lips.
Poor little swan, completely unaware that the couple was using her as a tool to spice things up.
She could only vaguely sense an odd tension in their glances.
"Are these two really not doing anything they shouldn't?"
"Why does the atmosphere between them feel so odd?"
Oh no, what's this painful feeling?
Clearly it's a carriage for three, yet she feels like she doesn't belong!
...
After leaving the carriage, the weary Beatrice went to her room first to rest, leaving the two in a meeting room to discuss matters.
Before leaving, the beloved wife even blew Louis a flying kiss.
Louis purposefully made a lovestruck expression, which made her giggle.
"Louis, don't bully my sister!"
Saying this, Beatrice laughed as she returned to her room.
The little swan's gaze lingered on Beatrice until she entered her room, then she pulled Louis into the meeting room.
She regarded Louis sternly:
"Kingdom of Confusion, I've caught you!"
"Oh no, I'm caught!"
Louis pretended to cry out in alarm.
Olivia snorted coldly:
"You've been exposed, don't try to fool me. You're a rebirth too, aren't you?"
Louis pondered for a moment and honestly told the little swan the truth.
"I'm Louis, not Kingdom of Confusion."
"Denial!"
The little swan's face reddened, with anger.
She said:
"You could spill the exact figures for the future Grand River Disaster, yet claim you're not reborn!"
Louis chuckled and patted her head:
"I didn't say I wasn't reborn; I'm trying to tell you, I'm not the Kingdom of Confusion you knew."
Louis spun a tale about an unlucky fellow turned into a troublesome figure, then got decapitated, and finally reborn.
The little swan initially furrowed her brow, then relaxed it slightly, but soon her face showed bitterness:
"You're truly not Kingdom of Confusion? Why can't I believe it?"
Louis feigned a hurt expression:
"Do you think my personality resembles that of Kingdom of Confusion?"
The little swan bit her lip.
She vaguely believed what Louis said.
Initially, it was her bias coloring her perception of him, leading to automatic assumptions about anomalies.
But the more she thought about it afterward, the less it seemed right.
The personality differences between Kingdom of Confusion's past and present were too vast.
The Kingdom of Confusion she knew was the type to remain silent, concealing much within, only showing true colors on stage.
But this guy Louis...
Too cheeky.
Every action carried a casual disregard for everything.
In less flattering terms, whether facing Sister Wang or herself, the Kingdom of Confusion exuded an undeniable fear.
Much like a typical noble encountering her.
It was a regard for her status.
But this guy Louis seemed indifferent to such concerns.
Previously, she couldn't understand why this guy's demeanor changed so much after rebirth.
But hearing Louis's explanation now, she truly believed it.
Yet, even as she chose to believe, the little swan stubbornly said:
"I don't believe it."
"Okay, okay, you don't believe me, so is that why you came to find me today?"
The little swan's mouth gaped.
What do you mean "just"?
Ascertaining whether you're reborn is such a major thing, yet you use "just"?
She huffed:
"From your behavior recently, reluctantly, I believe what you said."
Louis found her reluctant expression amusing.
The little swan clearly meant she genuinely believed.
But when it came time to say it, the words wouldn't come out.
However, Louis earnestly replied:
"I understand your concerns, but our goals align now."
"You want to protect Beatrice, and so do I."
"After all, she's my fiancée."
The little swan gave him a deep look and finally said:
"I'll reluctantly believe that."
Louis shrugged and said:
"So, want to tell me about your past life? To ward off potential dangers."
The little swan pondered for a moment and agreed.
She waved him over:
"Come here, I'll tell you."
Louis was also curious about what the little swan had done.
So he went over directly.
But perhaps he got a bit too close, Olivia's face started to blush:
"You're too close!"
