Defying the Fate of Beheading

Chapter 233: So how do you expect me to let her down?

Louis and Alice accompanied Grace back to the church.

After moving some supplies back, it began to drizzle in Tino City.

Grace was slightly sweaty, her cheeks flushed, and her hair clung to her face from the rain.

She carefully organized and classified the supplies, putting them away. Under the magic lamp, her long eyelashes fluttered slightly, her almond-shaped eyes focused and concentrated.

After putting the last of the materials in place, she picked up a thin hemp rope to tie the box securely.

She was wearing only the plainest priest attire today, with no embellishments, simply for the convenience of doing good deeds.

Yet just like this, it was enough to awe many of the nuns present.

Louis looked at Grace and said:

"I'll be out of Tino City for a while, if there's any problem remember to find Alice, don't worry about bothering her."

Alice shrugged:

"Remember to leave me a royal talisman, so I can call someone if I can't handle it."

Louis nodded.

Some of Beatrice's power was either bestowed by the emperor or inherent as the Regent King.

But after Louis and she officially got engaged, she gained additional authority.

This was explicitly stipulated in the Ense Royal Family rules.

Now Beatrice could wield greater authority, and Louis could involve himself in more matters.

Alice glanced at Louis and suddenly said:

"Are you going out with Beatrice?"

"Keep your voice down," Louis whispered, but he still nodded.

"Tsk, aren't you worried that when Olivia comes out of seclusion she'll cause trouble seeing you two gone?"

Louis brazenly said:

"Don't worry, I'll leave it to you to handle when the time comes."

Alice felt like cursing.

But in the end, she just glared at him fiercely and said:

"I won't take the blame for you."

Grace raised her head, her face under the lamp remaining gentle, though her expression was a bit troubled.

"Be careful on your trip," she said.

Despite her little thoughts, she sincerely wished them safety.

Alice ruffled her hair, not so surprised but added:

"This time you two finally get a chance for a honeymoon, have fun, I bet your relationship will progress further when you get back."

Grace lifted her head to look at Alice.

Those clear eyes made Alice feel a little uneasy.

But Alice knew Grace was starting to panic too.

Louis pretended not to see anything, just turned to Alice and said:

"Take good care of her, I've been waiting a long time for a chance to go out alone with Beatrice."

Alice nodded.

...

After Louis left, Grace softly said:

"Sister Alice, you didn't need to remind me."

Alice turned her neck and said:

"Remind? Remind of what? I don't know anything!"

Grace smiled and said:

"If this is Mr. Caesar's desired happiness, I will bless them."

She had prayed to God many times for this and never expected anything more.

Alice said somewhat hesitantly:

"You... why did you have to meet that brat Louis?"

"Mr. Caesar is a good person, I have never regretted meeting him."

The girl spoke her heart with determined words.

Alice said no more.

Saying more would make her not seem like a good person.

"Louis, oh Louis, who knows what your relationship will eventually turn into," Alice thought, feeling a bit of a headache.

The relationship between Beatrice and Louis was almost impossible to have issues.

Even if problems arose, it was unlikely they would choose Grace.

She knew Grace's feelings, unformed yet destined for extinction, had a low chance of success.

Louis was quite self-controlled.

During his relationship with Beatrice, it was almost impossible for him to lean toward Grace.

That guy was never a fool.

Louis had never hidden his affection for Beatrice within the team.

As for his purpose... it was most likely to cut off Grace's or anyone else's fanciful ideas.

Grace obviously knew as well, never expressing such an intention.

But looking at her gave Alice an uncomfortable feeling.

Suddenly she recalled her first meeting with Grace.

It was on the Dragonbone Prairie farm, where a ragged girl hid crying quietly in a corner.

Unable to find her father, she looked so helpless.

Alice, often called a red mad dog,

but even mad dogs have things they want to protect.

She couldn't stand it, initially wanting to persuade teammates to help.

But didn't expect Louis to agree without hesitation.

At the dinner table, Grace prepared a meal for them.

She knew Louis didn't eat rat meat and thought she'd help finish it, but he took the initiative to eat it himself.

That's when she knew this little girl was doomed.

A noble lady might be deceived by a playboy's sweet words.

But a farm girl had seen the reality early on.

When she saw her father didn't come home, she already understood the odds of seeing her father again were slim.

So when hosting them, she silently wept in the corner.

Because she knew, even with help, it was most likely futile.

Yet she still wanted to try.

At the moment Louis reached out to her, when he took the initiative to eat first, that warmth amidst her sorrow struck the heart more than sweet words ever could.

Sometimes Alice wondered if Louis had really been a slave at the White Tower.

The etiquette etched into his bones is not something that could be faked.

In certain qualities, she felt this guy resembled a knight more than a knight itself.
