House Augustus had a deep history. Because of their immense contributions to the Empire, every generation received many gifts from the Emperors. The wealth accumulated over the centuries made House Augustus one of the richest Houses on the entire Triana Continent.
Sadly, not many lived to enjoy it. Most, if not all, chose to protect the Empire and became martyrs. Few managed to live until their old years.
Aegon saw the extent of that wealth once again when Arnold casually told him that they owned many things, including a large piece of land in Dusk City. It was all managed by others, but it still belonged to House Augustus.
To celebrate their victory, they chose a grand palace north of Dusk City. Xiu had left workers there beforehand, so everything was clean and orderly, even decorated so they could enjoy themselves properly.
The main hall was painted in gray and white, while beautiful decorations powered by mana stones lit up every corner.
While Xiu disappeared along with Aurelia and Nora to prepare the food, Aegon spent his time chatting with Arnold. It had been a while since they talked properly, so he had many things to say.
Arnold remained on the receiving end, happily listening to everything Aegon had gone through, even things related to Rune Mastery that many couldn't understand at all.
"You know, your grandmother also used to talk like this," Arnold chuckled softly and said. "Although she didn't study Runes deeply like you, whenever she did, she would come and tell me everything."
"Totally understandable!" Aegon nodded. "The world of Runes is so much fun. Endless possibilities, so I can do anything. Once, I even made the air flow differently."
"You did?"
Aegon nodded again. "Yes. Do you know air moves from cold areas to hot areas?"
"Yes, I did notice that."
"Then do you know the reason behind it?"
Arnold blinked in confusion before responding, "I never really thought about it. It's just the world doing its wonders."
"Kind of!" Aegon shifted closer, explaining eagerly. "You see, technically temperature isn't the direct reason for that movement. The pressure difference is. Hot air is less dense because it expands, creating low pressure, while cold air is denser, creating high pressure. So air actually moves from high pressure to low pressure."
"Is that so?" Arnold tilted his head slightly and said. "Can't we use this in battles and for other things?"
"It's already done, Opa. I think you just never noticed it," Aegon laughed lightly and said. "In any case, there's more to this, like why hot air expands and all, but it'll take too much time to explain everything. I'll skip it."
He smiled and continued, "What I did was basically change these basic properties in a specified zone. I made a Rune Formation that went against the laws of this world, creating an area where air actually flowed from lower pressure to higher pressure, from hot to cold."
"Is that even possible?"
"That's the best part about being a RuneMaster," Aegon said. "We can twist the world and its laws far more than Mages can, which allows such abnormalities to exist."
Arnold smiled and nodded, continuing to listen to Aegon's rambling, even pretending not to know certain things just so Aegon would explain more.
He liked seeing Aegon's excited smile, which always appeared when he talked about something of his interest. For Arnold, that was all he needed in life now.
Spending time with his family while watching them grow happily and discover their own paths. What more could he ask for?
'It was a good decision to leave the military,' Arnold thought as he watched Aegon smile. 'It's all worth it to see him like this.'
Just then, Cali came over and flopped down onto a chair beside Aegon. She and the others had gone to speak with their parents, while Elara and Rosa had their own matters to handle.
She looked at Arnold and asked, "Grandpa, can you tell me more about Demons? I've only heard stories, so I want to hear about them from you."
"Is it because of Xiu?" Arnold asked in return.
Cali's cheeks turned red. She didn't expect Arnold to see through her intentions so easily. Ever since she heard what had happened with Xiu and her parents, her desire to know more about Demons had grown significantly.
"Do you plan to accompany Little Sun while exploring the world?" Arnold asked, confusing both Aegon and Cali.
"Yes?" Cali answered. "I mean, we all plan to do that since it seems fun, though I doubt all of us can go. I can wander around for sure, though. I already got permission from Father."
"Then it's fine. You'll encounter Demons one day," Arnold said, leaning back in his chair. "So you want to learn more about them?"
Both Aegon and Cali nodded.
"Then the first thing I'll teach you is to never show mercy to Demons. No matter the situation, you shouldn't have emotions for them. Never!"
Arnold emphasized that point before continuing.
"Many people in the past made this mistake. They thought Demons were just another race, like Elves, so they could communicate with them and bring peace. But their beliefs were based on ignorance. Demons are unlike any other race. Even Monster tribes are better than them. Do you know what makes them different?"
"They're more prone to violence?" Cali guessed. "They seek destruction?"
"Half right."
Aegon glanced at Cali before saying, "They thrive in darkness, unlike other races."
"Wait! I never thought of it that way," Cali clenched her fists and exclaimed, her mouth wide open. "Doesn't that mean they don't fear Creatures of Darkness?"
"Do you fear living with humans?" Arnold asked in return, which only made Cali more confused. "They don't fear darkness because Demons and Creatures of Darkness share the same origin. Many of the current Demon races actually evolved from Creatures of Darkness."
Cali's eyes widened in shock upon hearing that. It was a revelation she had never even considered before, yet it made perfect sense once she thought about it.
'No wonder Demons hate humans so much. We are basically their opposite,' Aegon thought, still finding the information unsettling even though he already knew it.
