Chapter 214: Life

"Something on your mind?"

Aegon broke out of his daze upon hearing Elara's sweet voice. Earlier, all of them had intentionally created distance between them so Rosa could get some time with him.

He turned towards her and smiled wryly. "It's nothing. I just got used to her calling me that nickname, so it felt odd hearing her call me by my name."

"I can call you Hubby if you want," Elara pouted cutely. "Or do you not like it?"

"I love it!" Aegon rubbed the bridge of his nose and said. "But it'll take some time to get used to this."

"Her absence and clinginess?" Elara asked.

Since he didn't want to lie to her, Aegon nodded. "I loved her too, you know. It won't be easy to forget her, but I won't let this come between us."

"I know," Elara said, raising her head. "She was happy."

"And hurt," Aegon added. "She hid it well behind a wall of happiness, but she forgot to control her tears."

"Yet you didn't comfort her," Elara pointed out.

"My comfort belongs to someone else now, so how can I give it to her?" Aegon said, gazing into the skies as well.

They remained silent for a while, staring at the dragon disappearing into the clouds.

After a while, Aegon took a deep breath and turned around. "Let's go. We have our destination too."

The only ones left were Luna, Elara, and him. All of them had to go back to the Academy, so they decided to do that together. By then, even Aurelia had left to deal with some matters, and Arnold went to talk with Samuel.

'Everyone is so busy in their lives now,' Aegon thought, closing his eyes for a moment. 'Is this what growing up is like? You all drift apart to do your own thing and occasionally meet up? What a sad life.'

But that was how things were supposed to be. Everyone had their own life, and life had infinite possibilities which led to a myriad of paths. Those roads crossed sometimes, but mostly they continued their journey toward their final destination.

'One just needs to make sure that those roads don't become so distant and important that you forget where you came from and who you left behind. You're the one who needs to make sure the roads meet someday.'

[Host is developing well!]

'Huh?'

[Your goal has always been to experience everything life has to offer. Learning about life and people is part of the journey leading to that goal. So you are developing well by understanding all of this.]

Aegon sighed, still feeling like emptiness had taken a grasp on his heart. He understood how life and connections worked, but that discovery and understanding only made things more complicated for him.

[It is what it is, Host. If you delve more into the philosophy of life, you might even get depressed.]

Aegon wondered if that was true. He was a curious soul, and sometimes he didn't really like the answers he got.

'Perhaps it's true then. Aghh! Why do I have to overthink so much?'

"What are you contemplating?"

Suddenly, he received a soft pat on his shoulder, which brought him back to reality. He blinked in confusion before he realised his situation.

'Ah! Right, we're on our way to the Academy.'

They were currently on the vast grasslands surrounding Dusk City. Since the palace was quite a distance from the city itself, the three of them decided to just walk and enjoy their little journey.

It wasn't like classes awaited them. For Luna, she just wanted to meet with Morgan and attend their graduation party. Amon could wait for Elara too.

As for Aegon, all he was told was that his mentor would be waiting at the Academy and he could come whenever he wanted. Knowing who his mentor was, he understood where this instruction came from.

Unfortunately, he fell into deep thought midway and didn't even realise what they were doing.

'Tsk! I really need to work on this habit!' Aegon thought, scratching the back of his head as he answered Luna. "Nothing much, I was just thinking how bizarre life is."

"A rejection made you question your life?" Elara gasped in surprise, though her face soon fell as she muttered, "Or is it because of me?"

"Don't take on my disease of overthinking, El," Aegon said, patting her head. "I'm happy with my decision. Wait, weren't we supposed to hide this?"

"You're terrible at that," Luna commented from his side. "It's easy to see through all of you, to be honest. Everyone already knew, so why bother pretending?"

"I guess so," Aegon said, scratching his chin. 'Am I really that bad? Should I have used my poker face?'

"Anyways, don't think so much," Luna said, her voice gentle as always. "Life is full of surprises. It'll give depression, happiness, and even make you question itself. That's what living is in essence, so just enjoy it."

"That's true as well," Aegon said, stopping.

Then he slapped his cheeks lightly and took a deep breath, his lips slowly curling up. "You're right. Why bother thinking so much when I can just enjoy it?"

"Right? You even have two beautiful ladies here and you're questioning your life," Elara giggled softly and said.

"That's an insult to our beauty, young man," Luna chuckled as well. "Now get moving. I'll treat you to some nice tea. My favourite one. It'll raise your spirits in no time."

"I'm all ready for it then!" Aegon shouted. "LET'S GO!!!!!"

They laughed and moved forward towards the city. Midway, they changed their appearance slightly so they wouldn't get recognised. Now that they were the new Supremes, the whole Empire knew them.

They wanted some peaceful time together, so it was better to remain anonymous. Though even in their new appearances, all three of them looked like they were from another world.

Then they entered Dusk City, with Luna guiding them through many paths and narrow streets to her favourite bar, which also served tea for some reason.

Soon, they found it.
