"Obligation? What is obligation?"
"Is becoming a supernatural calamity necessarily an obligation in the great transformation?"
"You traitors of faith!"
Inside a secret base somewhere in the Promised Land.
A group of the Pioneer's subordinates was imprisoned in their own interrogation room.
Looking around, some people had their wrists pierced by sharp iron rings and hung on the wall; some had their legs slackened like mud in inhumanly impossible positions on the ground; some had only their heads left able to move, continually cursing.
In front of them stood a group of mysterious figures clad in gray hooded robes.
The center of the robes depicted a bizarre purplish-red sinister mask, with a chilling blue flame burning fiercely where the eyes would be.
The leader among the mysterious figures slowly removed his hood, revealing the weather-beaten face of a middle-aged man, whose beard was as untamed and overgrown as an abandoned field.
But none of this was enough to attract attention.
The most crucial thing was that the left half of his face was devoid of any flesh, looking like it had been twisted by raging flames, even showing his gums through his cheeks in a terrifying display.
The whole face gave an eerie impression of being half skeleton, half desolation.
"Clown, you haven't forgotten who I am, have you? It was me who brought you into the Promised Land back then, and now you're questioning my faith?" the middle-aged man said with a faint smile.
Seeing him speak while his left face seemed to let in the wind, the leading curse-spitting man among the Pioneer's subordinates showed a flicker of panic in his eyes.
His codename was just what this middle-aged man called - Clown.
"You! You're... Iron Arm! Didn't they say you had already...?"
"Sacrificed, right? Is that how the Pioneer deceives you? Not even willing to reveal the truth, intending to let us die in missions that contradict our faith?" the middle-aged man spat fiercely.
"Look at my face, all thanks to the Pioneer. The Supernatural Objects he distributed almost turned me into that irrational blue flame monster, wanting us who followed Mr. Ghost Valley to burn in obscurity!"
Saying that, the middle-aged man took out a rusty but still weighty iron gauntlet from his pocket.
He slowly put it on his hand.
What should have been a blink of an eye took painfully long, like a slow-motion scene of glitches in the hands of the middle-aged man.
Finally, he donned it and fiercely clashed his fists in front of his chest!
Bang—
The sound was so loud it made ears ache.
"The Pioneer is nothing more than a hypocritical pretender unworthy of the title of supernatural calamity! Mr. Ghost Valley's prophecy that someone will lead the Promised Land to prosperity will not be him!"
The group of gray-robed mysterious figures, including the middle-aged man, were naturally the Ghost Valley Old Guard.
Each of them carried numerous Supernatural Objects that Ghost Valley had distributed in the past.
Additionally, during the Hate Fuel incident in the Utopian Village, many comrades were hastily burnt to a crisp, leaving behind a substantial quantity of Supernatural Objects.
Now, every surviving member of the Ghost Valley Old Guard possessed several powerful Supernatural Objects.
With the "forged identities" provided by Wu Liang, their attacks from the shadows on their former comrades proved highly effective!
Already leaderless in the Promised Land after the Pioneer was sorely defeated by Wu Liang in Shenhu City, the members were caught completely off guard by these familiar "former colleagues" knowing them inside out.
After all, the locations of all their hideouts and methods with Supernatural Objects were well-known by the Ghost Valley Old Guard; it was the insider's sabotage that was most terrifying!
"Humph! Don't think that not dying gives you the authority to slander the Pioneer! How could he do something as absurd as attacking his own?" Clown denied the statements of the middle-aged man.
This was also what troubled the official side of the Promised Land the most.
The intense loyalty to their faith among all members was appalling, and despite prolonged conflict, the authorities had been unable to insert even a single undercover agent within the Promised Land.
Unfortunately, now they faced the Ghost Valley Old Guard, holding equally steadfast beliefs!
Realizing he couldn't persuade Clown of the truth, the middle-aged man sighed.
"Sigh... Clown, you are like half a disciple to me, and if possible, I would like to take you to witness the forthcoming prosperity."
"Regrettably, your faith is pledged to the wrong man."
As he spoke, the middle-aged man raised his iron gloves high, blocking the light shining down from the ceiling of the interrogation room.
Thud—
With a dull sound from the collision of metal and flesh, the right half of the middle-aged man's normal face was splattered with blood like an overturned paint palette.
Emotionlessly, he crushed this former companion of his and turned to the others.
"Would any of you like to take some time to understand the crimes of the Pioneer? Or... is anyone willing to brush away the dust from their eyes and see the truth?"
The other members of the Promised Land in the interrogation room looked at each other.
They read two ideas from their companions' eyes—
One was hatred, believing these reportedly dead Ghost Valley Old Guard betrayed the Promised Land and returned from the gates of hell on a killing spree!
One was confusion, uncertain if what they just heard was true, whether the Pioneer had really committed such acts of turning his sword upon them.
The middle-aged man squinted at these former comrades; though they remained silent, that was already enough.
So long as none opposed like Clown did, it meant the seed of doubt had already been deeply sown in their hearts.
Seizing the moment, he said, "Comrades! Think clearly! Our faith is in the future prosperity of human civilization after the fierce ghosting, the fearless future of the supernatural! Not in the Pioneer, who hides behind everyone, never revealing his true self!"
This statement instantly caused most of their pupils to contract sharply, their minds feeling as if struck, momentarily dizzy.
Exactly! They gathered to form the Promised Land for the eventual great transformation.
Not to lift the Pioneer like some emperor of old as their sole reason to unite.
At last, someone gritted their teeth and said, "Then untie me first... I want to sit and hear about this so-called truth."
Seeing this, the middle-aged man couldn't help but smile genuinely.
He knew as soon as one awoke, there would inevitably be another.
The cleansing of the Promised Land had begun!
This was happening here and at other hideouts of the Promised Land.
They had been away from Utopian Village for six full days.
Now members of the Promised Land nationwide began to question the Pioneer.
The next step was for Mr. Mask to stand up and take charge of the situation!
