Chapter 353: Me? Just a Down-and-Out Lord!

"Nightmare, you handle it yourself."

Wu Liang watched with interest, allowing this Nightmare, whose power level was roughly at the early City-Destroying Level, to mentally call upon his Nightmare underling for a counterattack.

From the moment the opponent's Spiritual Power entered his mind, Wu Liang had already confirmed an extremely abstract fact.

Which was that the Spiritual Power aura and even the soul aura of this guy in front of him were completely identical to his own Nightmare underling, almost like a externally created avatar.

"Alright, Boss, leave it to me," Nightmare replied gloomily.

Just as the Pioneer had previously said when taking over Zeng Hu's shell, the severity of the gap at the spiritual soul level is actually more irresistible than the physical level.

So the moment this relatively "weak" Spiritual Power touched Wu Liang's memories, the Nightmare that had always been in his mind immediately completed a counterattack, fully controlling its spiritual soul.

The Nightmare standing outside, with its hand on Wu Liang's forehead, suddenly trembled all over.

Then opened its eyes, revealing a familiar expression.

Its Fierce Ghost body was now entirely under Wu Liang's Nightmare's control as well.

Nodding imperceptibly to indicate it had handled the opponent, the Nightmare turned to the Fierce Ghost soldier responsible for gate checks and said, "Unfortunately, there are no issues. Let him pass."

With that, the Nightmare regretfully patted Wu Liang's head and muttered, "Lucky brat, off you go, off you go..."

Seeing the Nightmare's impatient gesture, the Fierce Ghost soldier nodded, signaling Wu Liang to quickly enter the city, not to delay the Ghosts lining up behind him.

It knew this Guard Army Captain Nightmare quite well, his immediate superior.

This guy was just a madman who loved to torment other ghosts!

Fortunately, the Nightmare was quite principled. Once it really confirmed there were no issues, it wouldn't deliberately make things difficult or harm anyone.

Unless it was someone who resisted during a memory check, then Nightmare would ignore any reason and immediately plunge them into a nightmare of eternal pain, torturing them to death.

"I'll head inside to report to Lord Long about some matters. If a ghost with aphasia attempts to enter, direct them to the West Gate for a check," Nightmare said as it prepared to head back to the tent, suddenly turning to the Fierce Ghost soldier.

Not waiting for any acknowledgment, it turned and walked into the city.

The Fierce Ghost soldier could only sigh helplessly at this situation.

It knew that Nightmare had a good relationship with the City Lord. Surely there was nothing urgent to report; it was just an excuse to enter the city, rest, and enjoy, leaving the tedious memory checking to the ghosts at the West Gate.

"Don't worry, Brother Nightmare, I'll inform them," the Fierce Ghost soldier assured.

Faced with Nightmare's behavior, the Fierce Ghost soldier harbored no suspicions, since that's just how the easy-going Nightmare typically was. Given his powerful abilities and status as a unique Fierce Ghost Spiritual Body, nobody dared to criticize.

Yet it couldn't imagine that during that brief check, the Fierce Ghost in front of it had already completely changed from the Nightmare it once knew.

Once inside the city, Nightmare weaved through the bustling streets in what seemed like a Night Parade of Hundred Demons, ignoring the various Fierce Ghosts flowing past and ducking into a rarely visited alleyway.

At the end of the alley stood a secluded courtyard, utterly devoid of any Fierce Ghosts, a stark contrast to the vibrant streets earlier.

He pushed open the rickety wooden door, no more than a nominal barrier, and walked directly into a small wood cabin at the side of the courtyard.

Upon entering, he saw Wu Liang boredly sitting on a chair, fiddling with a white mask in his hand, from which Nightmare could sense an unusual surge of anger.

This courtyard was the interrogation ground that the Nightmare, in his capacity as the Guard Army Captain, used specifically to satisfy his own desires to torture. Any Fierce Ghost staying in the city for a while knew better than to casually approach, lest they risk being seized by the Nightmare for interrogation and torment, making it one of the few ghost-free zones in the city.

Of course, these circumstances were information that the genuine Nightmare had relayed silently to Wu Liang while imprisoning the opposing spiritual soul, setting it as the rendezvous point after entering the city.

"Boss, should I..." Nightmare mimed a throat-cutting gesture without completing the question.

Wu Liang teased, "In some sense, it's you. Do you really have to be that harsh on yourself?"

Saying that, he lightly tapped two fingers against the mask's forehead.

As the Mental Cage on the mask loosened, the whole white mask began to glow with that familiar eerie purple-red hue, and in the blink of an eye, a Fierce Ghost identical to Nightmare appeared in the room.

"Haha, let's call you Nightmare No. 2. After all, there's a stronger Nightmare here. Could you help us discuss the local culture of this city?" Wu Liang asked with a smile.

"Bastard! Which Lord's subordinate are you? Daring to move against Dragon City during this War of Chaos preparation phase?" Nightmare No. 2 had not the slightest interest in hearing out any talk of city culture, instead, it furiously cursed Wu Liang.

Curse though it might, a chill of disbelief still surged within it.
