Chapter 357: The Calamity of Dragon City! (Part 2)

Clang—

As soon as the words fell, the gigantic maze constructed by the Maze Ghost that covered a quarter of Dragon City emitted a sound of overwhelming strain.

Finally, under the horrified expressions of the other Guard Army members, the maze collapsed with a loud crash.

Although it only existed for a few minutes, nearly half of the trapped Fierce Ghosts and Residual Thoughts were already reduced.

It was enough to show the perilous nature within the maze.

Unfortunately, it still couldn't stop Wu Liang from forcefully and violently dispelling everything in his path.

"Thank you for clearing out the traitor for me. Sorry for being a few minutes late."

Just as Wu Liang re-entered Dragon City, he heard a calm and familiar voice echoing in his ears.

Looking up, he saw the Magic Cube Dragon holding two heads showing astonished expressions, casually throwing them to the ground before drawing the Strange Sword covered in eerie pupils to pierce through them.

The appearance of the two heads also seemed somewhat familiar—they were the newly inaugurated Lords let in by the Maze Ghost.

Within just a few minutes, they had been beheaded.

This scene didn't escape the eyes of the other Guard Army members and the residents of Dragon City.

Suddenly, the entire Dragon City was filled with momentum, with all the Fierce Ghosts cheering and igniting the flames of battle in their eyes even more intensely.

They believed they could defend Dragon City in this War of Chaos, just like before.

However, despite the passionate and seemingly promising situation, Wu Liang did not show a relaxed expression.

Instead, he raised an eyebrow and smirked sarcastically at the Magic Cube Dragon, whispering, "How long can you hold on? Just come out and show off a bit is enough. I'm counting on you to survive this War of Chaos and deliver a message to the First Emperor."

Earlier in the mansion, Wu Liang had already sensed something off.

Particularly when the Magic Cube Dragon used that Strange Sword, its aura became somewhat unstable.

Now, after swiftly dispelling the two new Lords, that sense of instability became more evident.

Standing before him, it seemed like a terminally ill patient, even appearing as though it would have to take a few deep breaths just to utter a few sentences.

Although he didn't know what had happened to the Magic Cube Dragon, given its current state, Wu Liang wouldn't be surprised if it dropped dead in front of him at any moment.

"Cough, cough... Don't worry, I will fulfill what I promised you. I hope you will fulfill your own commitment, too," the Magic Cube Dragon said after coughing twice, then pulled out the Strange Sword from the ground, trying to restrain its aura as much as possible so that other Fierce Ghosts wouldn't notice anything amiss.

Honestly speaking, its cover-up was quite effective.

Probably even the two new Fierce Ghosts that were dispelled couldn't see that this guy had long been seriously injured, only Wu Liang, with his extremely abnormal perception ability, could sharply detect something amiss.

Yet Wu Liang didn't let the Magic Cube Dragon leave. Instead, he stepped forward, grabbed its bandage-covered collar, and asked in a low voice, "Tell me honestly, what exactly happened to Dragon City? You're facing more than just new Lords trying to seize territory during the War of Chaos, aren't you?"

When he discovered that the Maze Ghost had betrayed Dragon City, and immediately two new Lords rushed in, Wu Liang smelled a conspiracy.

You should know, Nightmare No. 2 had told him—Dragon City had stood firm through several Wars of Chaos.

If he were a new Lord or an established Lord who had managed to survive after losing territory in the previous War of Chaos,

then in the next War of Chaos, when choosing territories to seize, faced with a place as powerful as Dragon City, with significant renown across regions, only a fool would consider it as a primary target!

At the very least, one should consider or probe into those places that nearly fell or had been seized several times in the last War of Chaos, right?

At least those places would likely be the most promising to obtain.

So rather than saying these two new Lords were eager to seize Dragon City, it would be more accurate to say they were like reconnaissance warriors sent in to gather intelligence.

The real threat does not lie with these new Lords but with the forces behind them.

Facing Wu Liang's gaze that seemed to see through everything, the Magic Cube Dragon could only respond with a bitter smile, "Indeed, in the past, new Lords wouldn't dare attack Dragon City. The driving force behind this offensive is actually a Venerable, and I predict it's either Zeus or Poseidon."

"Before the battle began, you didn't mention anything about offending a Venerable, did you?" Wu Liang's tone cooled a bit.

He's not afraid of retaliation from country-destroying Venerables but detests the feeling of being used.

Although, in essence, he and the Magic Cube Dragon are just using each other, it clearly seemed that the other party stands to gain more.

"No, you won't offend a Venerable, because the War of Chaos is also a means by which the several Great Venerables counterbalance each other, so they won't hold grudges or seek revenge over the outcome of the battle, otherwise, it would provoke a joint balancing by other Venerables." The Magic Cube Dragon earnestly explained this "misunderstanding."

The cleaver in Wu Liang's hand gleamed with a sharp chill as he placed it on the Magic Cube Dragon's Strange Sword and said coldly, "I have to know why a Dragon City would cause a Venerable to covet, especially when you're the Lord."

This guy has close ties to the First Emperor, to the extent of being gifted the Immortal Pill of Undying. Even if the Lords everywhere and masterless Fierce Ghosts are unaware of this relationship, Wu Liang does not believe it completely escapes the notice of all Venerables.

Which means, Zeus or Poseidon, aware of the Magic Cube Dragon's connection to the First Emperor, still moved against Dragon City in the shadows.

There must be some reason, right? It can't just be displeasure with the First Emperor and a desire to discipline his subordinate.

"Hmm... I indeed shouldn't have hidden this from you, but earlier I was unsure whether you would genuinely help Dragon City," the Magic Cube Dragon said somewhat helplessly.

After all, their previous agreement was merely a verbal one; no one could guarantee that Wu Liang would actually intervene when Dragon City faced danger.

But now he had already helped dispel the traitorous Maze Ghost, which also meant that, in the eyes of other Fierce Ghosts, Wu Liang was already bound to Dragon City, and it was too late for him to go back on his word.

Only then did the Magic Cube Dragon continue, "Because I have an ancient Supernatural Object here capable of enhancing a Venerable's abilities, originally intended to present to the First Emperor, but with the impending War of Chaos, if I were to leave the bounds of Dragon City too easily, it would instead be more likely intercepted midway by other Venerables."

"During the War of Chaos, the Venerables monitor and constrain each other; they won't intervene directly. Dragon City only has to face threats at the level of other Lords. Once the War of Chaos is concluded, the Five Great Venerables will also announce the result. Then the First Emperor will show up, and it will be convenient for me to hand the Supernatural Object to him."

Upon saying this, the Magic Cube Dragon's face once again turned a bit paler.

Its injuries were inflicted not long before the War of Chaos, indicating it had actually attempted to secretly transport the item to the First Emperor before the War of Chaos arrived.

But it was intercepted by other Venerables, forcing it to return to the Dragon City's range while wounded, thus resorting to this strategy to wait until the War of Chaos ended to discuss it further.

Having attempted it, it became more acutely aware of the other Venerables' covetousness toward this object.

Dragon City, in this War of Chaos, faces not just an ordinary land grab as in the past.

Since the First Emperor can have connections with a Lord like the Magic Cube Dragon, it's natural other Venerables also have other Lords under their command.

They probably have long set their sights on Dragon City, ready to seize this opportunity to take it in one fell swoop!

The two new Lords, serving merely as a vanguard, indicate that the veteran Lords attacking Dragon City this time are certainly no mere one or two.

With a Venerable as the driving force, it's not unexpected that Dragon City might face the combined assault from the Lords of dozens of cities.

"Haha, past years were Wars of Chaos, but this year has directly turned into a Dragon City siege, hasn't it? I have one more request; may I know if you would agree?" Wu Liang pondered for a moment, then said half-jokingly.

"I am all ears." The Magic Cube Dragon naturally realized that, in such a critical moment, the more strength on their side, the better, unwilling to forego Wu Liang's powerful support.

However, Wu Liang only made a request that seemed to bear no profit—

"Simply, after the War of Chaos is over, before you present the Supernatural Object to the First Emperor, let me take a look at that Supernatural Object, to satisfy my curiosity."
