Transmigrator's Guide to Conquering Another World

Chapter 280: The Missing Energy

After listening to the previous introduction, some people might find it strange:

Wait a minute, Krip rock doesn't exist on Earth, so why does finding this rock in the Damo Realm have to be related to the Moon?

Couldn't it be that the Damo Realm also meets the conditions for the formation of Krip rock, thus evolving it independently?

This brings us to the uniqueness of Krip rock:

This is a special rock that requires conditions of near-Earth gravity and a sufficient amount of elements to form correctly.

Currently, humans have only discovered Krip rock on the side of the Moon that faces Earth.

First, let's talk about the reason for the formation of the Moon.

There are currently many hypotheses about the reason for the formation of the Moon, and no one can give a definitive answer to this question.

Because we cannot go back to events that occurred billions of years ago, it's impossible to confirm or refute a hypothesis.

We can only approach the scenario at the time through existing facts.

The current key observations and findings are as follows:

The average density of the Moon (3.34 g/cm^3) is much lower than that of Earth (5.52 g/cm^3) and other terrestrial planets.

The overall chemical composition of the Moon differs significantly from Earth, for example, the Moon lacks volatile elements and siderophile elements compared to Earth.

Earth and the Moon have identical oxygen isotope compositions.

The oldest highland igneous rocks on the Moon date to about 4.5 billion years, suggesting they formed or differentiated around the same time as Earth.

There are four hypotheses regarding the formation of the Moon:

The fission hypothesis that it split from Earth.

The double planet hypothesis that it formed as a sister body with Earth.

The capture hypothesis that a celestial body formed elsewhere in the solar system and was gravitationally captured.

Finally, the giant impact hypothesis where a Mars-sized body collided with proto-Earth, and the resulting debris formed the Moon.

The widely accepted model is the giant impact hypothesis, which is the fourth hypothesis.

This hypothesis suggests that 4.5 billion years ago, a planet about the size of Mars, named Theia, drifted near Earth's orbit due to gravitational perturbations and collided violently with Earth.

At the time, Earth suffered an unprecedented disaster, shattered and reformed, with a level of destruction far surpassing the impact that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Some of the silicate portion of Earth and impact debris remained in Earth's orbit, and this material eventually coalesced to form the Moon.

A crucial piece of data supporting this model is the current angular momentum of the Earth-Moon system, specifically measured at 3.35×10^41 g·cm^2/s.

Considering that some people struggle with this topic, we won't go into further details here. This data can be used to derive a nearly identical ancient model.

Moreover, it is due to this angular momentum and the composition of the material from the impact that Krip rock has its formative conditions.

In other words, you can think of Krip rock as a rock formed when multiple elements fuse under the specific planetary conditions.

If you use the same elements on a different planet, you will not be able to reproduce this rock; if anything, other materials would form.

Just like a story outline, the planetary environment is the author.

The same outline, when written by Chen Dong, becomes grandiose, with two supremos battling to the ends of the universe, even the Dao trembles, reaching tens of thousands in sales within minutes.

If a lesser writer tried, it would come out as third-rate, amateur storytelling, likened to children fighting; even securing a contract would be difficult.

It's what we colloquially refer to as style or how a work resonates.

Therefore, Krip rock is a type of rock that can only form in the Earth-Moon system; you won't find it on Mars or Jupiter.

And the presence of Krip rock beneath the deep pit...

This indicates that either the Damo Realm directly has an Earth-Moon-like system with the three primary sequencers, or there is some other deeper reason.

Meanwhile, on the surface, Feng Yuhua continued to educate Lin Ziming on the relevant information:

"Colonel Lin, the uniqueness of Krip rock lies not only in its formation conditions but more critically in its characteristics."

Lin Ziming, looking at Feng Yuhua, curiously asked:

"Oh? What are its characteristics?"

Feng Yuhua took a deep breath and explained:

"Colonel Lin, based on the thermal model established for the interior of the Moon, we can determine one thing.

That is, the radioactive decay of isotopes of potassium, thorium, and uranium in Krip rock may have provided the heat source for volcanic activity on the front side of the Moon over billions of years, meaning it is a rock capable of producing thermal energy."

As is well known,

due to tidal locking, only one side of the Moon faces Earth, which we habitually refer to as the near side of the Moon.

People on Earth will never see the other side, known as the far side of the Moon.

Only by flying there or using a lunar-orbiting probe can one see that mysterious world.

The near side of the Moon is relatively flat, with large areas of lunar maria, which are the shadows we see on the lunar surface.

In contrast, the far side is full of craters, resembling a pockmarked face.

The reason for this phenomenon is straightforward:

The near side is where Chang'e resides, making it flat, while the far side, where the jade rabbit resides, is full of rabbit droppings, pitted and uneven... ahem.

Alright, to put it in serious terms.

There are two reasons for the flatness of the Moon's near side: one is that tidal locking keeps the near side facing Earth, with the far side facing the vast universe, leading to more meteorite impacts on the far side.

This phenomenon makes the far side of the Moon resemble a knight shielding a princess and prince from all harm, sacrificing himself to block all arrows...

It's a sad story indeed.

Besides these reasons, there's another reason for the abundance of volcanoes on the near side.

When basalt on the Moon's near side is ejected, it flows across the lunar surface as lava, covering up those meteor craters.

It's similar to one of Asia's three great magic arts, makeup, which uses 'foundation' to cover up the pits.

Previously mentioned,

Krip rock is a potassium-rich, rare earth element, and phosphorus-containing brown-yellow glassy mineral.

In addition,

Krip rock on the Moon contains uranium and other radioactive elements.

These undergo long-term decay, releasing heat.

The reason for the numerous volcanoes on the near side of the Moon is the presence of an area called the Storm Ocean Krip Rock Region.

The special elements contained in the Krip rock here provide enough thermal energy for the volcanoes during decay.

This leads to a new question:

Even without exploring why Krip rock exists beneath the deep pit, just its ability to provide heat means the temperature below shouldn't be too low.

It's unlikely to be just a few degrees, but it absolutely and definitively cannot be below freezing.

So where did the heat it should contain go?

One must understand that the energy level of this heat is no small number.

If this pit, at least ten thousand meters deep, is all Krip rock, the accumulated energy level over the years would not be less than a hundred times the power of the Tsar Bomba!

This magnitude would be enough to sink certain countries that have an ongoing obsession with certain things multiple times.

However, questions are questions, and the information Lei Wenjun can currently collect has reached a certain limit.

Going further isn't just about whether the command will allow it; the below-freezing temperature is not something he can withstand.

If further exploration is to happen, other machines will have to be used.

Machines have their pros and cons.

While machines can probe deeper positions, analyzing rock characteristics based on the feel as Lei Wenjun does would not be possible.

But there's no way around it; many things can't be perfect.

Thinking of this, Lin Ziming turned around and said to Feng Yuhua:

"Assistant Feng, please tell Director Lei he can prepare to come up."

Feng Yuhua nodded, just about to contact Lei Wenjun when she suddenly heard a soft exclamation from Lei Wenjun over the communicator:

"Colonel Lin, I've discovered something new!"

Lin Ziming immediately picked up the communicator and asked:

"What's the situation? Is there any danger?"

"No danger to people, but I discovered... a turtle!"
