My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 457: Xiao Wen's Phone Call

Teacher Yue stepped forward. "Time," she said, "is something you can always find if you just squeeze a little."

"Some parents would rather spend their time on their phones or at dinner parties with friends than spend it with their children!"

Teacher Yue then singled out another parent. "This gentleman here, do you mind if I share your story?"

The father, taken aback for a moment, smiled and said, "I don't mind."

Teacher Yue nodded. "Thank you. One day, he was late picking up his child, so I called him. That's when I learned about his family's situation. Both of his parents are ill and bedridden, requiring constant care. The child's grandmother is slightly better; she can walk around and feed herself. However, the child's grandfather is in poor health, confined to his bed year-round.

"This man alone looks after two elders and his child. He is the pillar of his household. He works at a factory during the day, and at night, after his family has gone to sleep, he moonlights as a food delivery driver.

"He told me that every Saturday, without fail, he takes his daughter to the park to play. Once a month, he takes her for a ride on his motorcycle. Whenever the seasons change, he takes her shopping for new clothes, making sure his little princess is always dressed beautifully. Every night, he tells her a story and never forgets to say good night. He hasn't missed a single one of her school events!

"I won't list everything else he does. To put it simply, whether you have money or not, a parent's love for their child is the same. I just hope all of you can spend a little more time with your children."

After the parent-teacher conference ended, the children came in to pack their schoolbags. While most parents were helping their children, Lin Feng had Dabao and Erbao pack their own bags.

He reminded them, "Have you packed everything? Did you leave anything behind?"

Dabao and Erbao checked their desks. "Nope, we've got everything!"

Lin Feng nodded. "Alright, let's go. Dad still has to pick up Sibao."

Dabao and Erbao quickly waved to their teacher. "Goodbye, Teacher Yue!"

Teacher Yue smiled warmly. "Goodbye!"

Since the parent-teacher meeting for Class Six hadn't ended yet, Lin Feng sent Zhang Yuxi a message and left first to pick up Sibao.

One of the parents started discussing Lin Feng.

"I thought his family was rich. Why doesn't he hire a nanny?"

"Don't all rich people hire nannies? Doing everything yourself must take up so much time."

"And the car he drives doesn't look very expensive."

The parent's tone was thick with skepticism about Lin Feng's supposed wealth.

Another parent, tired of listening, chimed in, "He really is rich. Do you have any idea that his child's violin alone is worth over 800,000? Moreover, he lives in Cuihu Lake Villas, where property costs tens of thousands per square meter. He also owns several storefronts in Yangcheng! He's just low-key and doesn't like to flaunt it. It's not that he doesn't have money!"

This parent's child had been in the same kindergarten class as the quads, so she knew a thing or two about the Lin family's finances. She couldn't stand listening to such sour grapes.

Teacher Yue was developing a headache. "This semester, three children have already started wearing glasses, and several students have told me they can't see the blackboard from the back. It's worrying me to death."

Zhang Yuxi emerged with Sanbao. With her phone on silent, she hadn't seen Lin Feng's message yet. She went to the door of Class Six but didn't see Lin Feng.

Teacher Yue smiled and explained, "He said he was going to pick up Sibao. They left a while ago."

Zhang Yuxi nodded. "Oh, I see. Thank you, Teacher! Goodbye!"

The children also waved. "Goodbye, Teacher Yue!"

Zhang Yuxi took Sanbao's hand and hurried off, her steps quick and light. Behind them, the parents' discussion was still audible.

"Alright, let's go to the supermarket for groceries. What do you all want to eat?"

Sanbao said anything was fine; they weren't picky eaters.

"When we get home, Mommy has to prepare her lessons, so you need to be good and do your homework in your rooms, okay?"

"Mom, our teacher told us to keep a plant growth journal today. What should we plant?"

"Let's do garlic. It grows fast!"

"Is that allowed?"

"It should be. If not, you can always ask your teacher!"

Their voices gradually faded as they walked away.

They may be wealthy, but it's clear they're trying their best to be there for their children.

When Lin Feng returned after picking up Sibao, he learned that Zhang Yuxi had already bought groceries, saving him a trip to the supermarket.

"Honey, you're so smart! You knew we were out of food at home!"

"Honey... you're embarrassing me!" Zhang Yuxi rarely handled the kitchen essentials—the firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, and tea. Your words make me sound like a clueless little fool who can't even see when we're out of groceries.

Lin Feng skillfully turned the steering wheel and laughed. "We're an old married couple!"

But he loved that about her. Even after so many years of marriage, she still had the shyness of a young girl.

Back home, Lin Feng washed his hands and started cooking. Once Zhang Yuxi had taken care of the children's things, she asked, "Honey, does this laundry need to be done?"

Lin Feng peeked out from the kitchen. "Mhm. Remember to separate the darks and lights."

"I know, I know!"

By the time Zhang Yuxi was finished, Lin Feng had dinner ready. After a cheerful family meal, they took Da Bai out for a walk, discussing what was said at the parent-teacher conference.

「On a Wednesday, just past ten in the morning.」

Lin Feng was at home washing vegetables when he received a call from an unknown number.

"Hello, who is this?"

"Uncle, it's me, Lin Xiaowen."

Lin Feng heard the anxiety in his nephew's voice. At this hour, he should have been in school.

"What's wrong? Is there a reason you're calling me?"

Lin Xiaowen's voice was pleading. "Uncle, can you come to the school?"

Lin Feng shook the water from his hands. "Sure, I'll be right there!"

He glanced at the time. As he got ready to leave, he called Zhang Yuxi. "Honey, Lin Xiaowen just called me. It sounds like there might be some trouble, so I need to go to his school. You'll have to pick up the children at noon. I've already set the timer for the rice, and the dishes are cooked. Just heat them up in the microwave when you get back."

"Okay, I understand. I'll have a good talk with him."

Lin Feng drove off. The drive to Lin Xiaowen's school was forty minutes. Factoring in potential delays, he definitely wouldn't make it back in time to pick up the children.

He found Class 1-5 at Lin Xiaowen's school, which he was visiting for the first time. He called the boy, who told him he was in the office.

Upon finding the office, he saw Lin Xiaowen inside along with several other boys his age, all of them with fresh bruises on their faces.

"Hello, teacher. I'm Lin Xiaowen's guardian," Lin Feng said, greeting the teacher with a smile.

The teacher frowned. "You weren't the one who came last time."

Lin Feng replied smoothly, "That's right. His parents were busy and couldn't make it. I'm his father's younger brother. You can tell me what happened."

The teacher said, "Oh," and began to explain. "Well, since Lin Xiaowen joined our class, his behavior hasn't been very good. He sleeps in class, plays video games during breaks, his test scores are in the lower-middle range, and he doesn't apply himself. And now, he's gotten into a fight with a classmate!"

Lin Feng nodded calmly. "What was the reason for the fight?"

"It started as a verbal dispute," the teacher said. "A classmate tried to borrow something from him, he refused, and it escalated into a fight."

Lin Feng was silent for a moment. He looked at the four boys before his gaze settled on his nephew.

"Xiaowen, tell Uncle everything that happened, from the very beginning."

Lin Xiaowen held his gentle uncle in high regard, a mix of fondness and awe. He was scared. The teacher had threatened expulsion, and he knew his father would beat him if he found out. Although Zhang Yuxi was also good to the children, she came across as a bit cold—perhaps because she was a teacher. After thinking it over, he ultimately decided to call Lin Feng.
