KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!
At the door was Erbao's voice. "Brother Xiaowen, it's time to eat!"
After dinner, Lin Feng mentioned that in a few days, Sanbao would be going to Modu with Zhang Yuxi to prepare for a performance. Sanbao's talent was now widely recognized, and she was already very popular in the country.
Erbao, while eating some fruit, said, "Dad, Brother Sibao just told me that horseback riding is really fun. Didn't you say you'd take us once our vacation started?"
Lin Feng remembered this. "Sure, let's do it tomorrow then. We'll go in the afternoon and be back by the evening." He turned to Xiaowen and added, "You haven't been out these past few days; you must be bored stiff. Let's all go have some fun together."
Lin Feng's Black Gold Card allowed for complimentary services at designated locations in Yangcheng, such as golf courses, bowling alleys, and equestrian centers. He called that evening to make a reservation, and they arrived at the stables around five o'clock the next afternoon.
The location was remote, and the drive took almost an hour. Staff members were already waiting to receive them, offering courteous and attentive service.
"Welcome, Mr. Lin. I see this is your first time at our stables. Allow me to give you an introduction."
Lin Feng nodded. "Okay."
The staff member smiled. "We have over fifty high-quality riding horses here, each with a certified pedigree. We have gentle horses perfect for beginners, as well as spirited ones with quick responses and strong personalities for advanced riders." Glancing at the quadruplets, he added, "Of course, we also have miniature ponies suitable for children."
"The grounds include speed tracks, an indoor training arena, a children's training area, and an obstacle course, among other facilities. As for safety, rest assured, all arenas are covered with an 18-centimeter-thick layer of yellow sand to protect beginners."
Lin Feng nodded. "One of my children knows how to ride, but the rest of us don't."
The staff member quickly replied, "We will assign appropriate instructors for each of you."
After Lin Feng signed the registration form, the staff member led the group to get changed into riding attire. "We offer accommodations, catering, showers, and other services. We also have standard entertainment like billiards, table tennis, darts, and card games. Outdoors, there's an artificial lake for fishing and boating. To offer our guests a special surprise, we've set up a trail to an orchard for fruit picking. There is an extra charge for that, though!"
The children couldn't wait to ride horses and go pick fruit. It was Xiaowen's first time at a place like this, and he looked around curiously, his face full of anticipation.
After they changed, the instructors were already waiting for them. Except for Sibao, it was everyone else's first time on a horse.
Soon, Xiaowen and the children were sitting on gentle ponies, being led out by the instructors. Dabao and Sibao were, needless to say, thrilled beyond words. Erbao, however, pursed her lips, her little face tense as she radiated reluctance.
The instructor smiled. "Don't be afraid, little one. This pony is very gentle and super well-behaved! Look, I'll tell him to stop, and he'll stop."
"Halt!"
Indeed, the pony came to a stop. At the instructor's next command, it resumed walking forward.
"See? He's very obedient, isn't he?"
Erbao's expression visibly relaxed, and she lost much of her nervousness and fear.
Sanbao, whom Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi had been worried about, emerged happily riding a beautiful little white pony. They later found out that it was the pony that had taken a liking to Sanbao first. That was why she had chosen him, and since she loved small animals, she didn't feel scared at all.
Xiaowen was also on a small pony, finding the experience both novel and joyful. The happiest of all was Sibao, who burst onto the scene trotting his pony around the arena for a full lap, making the other children incredibly envious. Sibao had already gone to another training area with his instructor.
For now, the other instructors led the ponies by the reins, walking the children around the arena for several laps. Erbao and Dabao were the first to get the hang of it, and their instructors had the horses start trotting.
"Don't worry, the instructors will be right beside you!"
There was no need to worry about Erbao and Dabao; they were having an absolute blast. Next was Xiaowen, who also managed to get his pony to run, and he remained quite steady. Once they mastered the basics of riding and overcame their fear, they could all handle a trot.
Zhang Yuxi took a more relaxed approach, feeling that a gradual progression was just fine.
The first person to ride a horse independently without an instructor was Lin Feng. One of the instructors couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, your dad is amazing!"
In the children's eyes, there was nothing their dad couldn't do.
Lin Feng rode his horse toward the outdoor area. "I'm going to find Sibao. I'll be back in a bit!"
Sibao was having fun in the outdoor children's area. "Dad, I'm over here!"
Although Sibao could ride by himself, an instructor still followed close behind Lin Feng.
"Dad, let's go to the orchard to pick some fruit, okay?"
"Sure!"
Lin Feng's instructor said, "I'll go with you," and made a move to mount his horse.
Lin Feng smiled. "No need, I can handle it. No problem."
The instructor dared not let a VIP, who had only been learning for a few hours, take such a risk. If anything went wrong, he'd be in more trouble than he could handle. So, no sooner had Lin Feng ridden off than the instructor mounted his own horse and followed. As it turned out, Lin Feng rode with a steady hand the entire way, which finally allowed the instructor to breathe a sigh of relief. Still, he didn't dare to relax and continued to follow closely.
The horses here knew the path to the orchard by heart. Once on the trail, they knew exactly where to go. Up ahead was a large orchard with a hitching post area. They grew apples, pears, grapes, and a few strawberries. There was first a per-person entry fee, and then the fruit was sold by weight at prices several times higher than the market rate. But the wealthy patrons who came here didn't care about such small sums; happiness was what mattered most.
Meanwhile, back in the arena, Dabao and Xiaowen could already ride their ponies at a trot for a short distance. Erbao and Sanbao were leisurely riding their ponies, having gone for a stroll with their instructor. Zhang Yuxi had stopped riding, as the bouncing made her uncomfortable. She preferred to sit down and have a drink.
Lin Feng and Sibao returned with two baskets of fruit. A staff member took them to be washed and said they would be brought over shortly.
Zhang Yuxi handed her drink to Lin Feng. "Are you tired?"
Lin Feng shook his head with a smile. "Not at all!"
The feeling was hard to describe; all he could say was that he felt thoroughly invigorated.
Sibao tilted his head up and smiled. "Mom, why didn't you ask if Sibao is tired?"
Zhang Yuxi wiped the sweat from her son's forehead. "You two should go get changed and take a shower!"
Lin Feng stood up. "Let's go, son. Time for us to go shower!"
After showering, they both felt clean and refreshed.
"Hasn't the fruit arrived yet?" Lin Feng asked.
"The staff said they're chilling it and it'll be out in a few minutes," Zhang Yuxi replied.
Before long, the other children returned one by one. Zhang Yuxi took Sanbao to change and take a shower. Lin Feng, meanwhile, took Dabao to the men's changing room, while Sibao waited outside, munching on chips.
