Er Bao sighed, "What a pity. I was just a few points away from second place."
"Yeah, yeah, just six more points and I would've been first. I have to work really hard next time!"
The quadruplets were all very attractive; the boys were handsome, and the girls were beautiful. Especially San Bao, who had already been dubbed the class belle and the belle of the entire first grade. Some people just shine, and Er Bao was one of them. Wherever they went, they were the center of attention.
Back in class, their classmates celebrated San Bao taking first place in their grade and Er Bao taking third. The two girls didn't think much of it, viewing it as just a bit of friendly competition among siblings. Aside from losing one point in Chinese and half a point on reading comprehension, San Bao had received a perfect score in every other subject. As a result, she had no homework. Er Bao, however, had two Chinese test papers and ten essays to write because she had lost significant points on her writing.
In Da Bao's class, the two homeroom teachers even teased each other.
"Our class took the lead with outstanding results this year! Sorry about that!"
"No problem at all. It's just the first semester of junior high. There's plenty of time."
In the parents' group chat, Lin Feng had already received the report cards and grade rankings sent by the teachers. San Bao, as expected, took first place in the grade. Many parents sent their congratulations, and Lin Feng replied to them all with a standard message of thanks. Achieving such results at Yangcheng No. 5 Middle School meant the quadruplets' performance was extraordinary, even when compared to the whole of Yangcheng.
When physics was introduced in their second year of junior high, the respective strengths and weaknesses of the boys and girls began to emerge.
In the second semester of their first year, their rankings had shifted: Da Bao took first place in the grade, Er Bao second, and San Bao third. During this period, Er Bao was brimming with inspiration, devoting a third of her time to jewelry design. San Bao participated in a stage performance, while Da Bao and Si Bao both won awards in the Yangcheng Youth Taekwondo Competition.
To their peers, they were figures to be looked up to in awe. Some outstanding people work hard in silence, only to later amaze everyone. The quadruplets, however, were excellence personified, never neglecting their studies or their interests. It seemed that no matter how hard others tried, they could never surpass them.
After physics was introduced in the second year, the two girls, Er Bao and San Bao, began to struggle slightly. Despite this, the three siblings still ranked in the top three of the grade in the midterms. However, the score gap between the girls and the fifth-place student was dangerously small. San Bao, who placed second, was a full fifteen points ahead of Er Bao.
This won't do for Er Bao and San Bao; they really need to put their minds to it!
The results for the first semester of their second year came out. Da Bao firmly secured first place in the grade, San Bao took second, and Er Bao clinched third.
The student who had taken fifth place in the midterms felt he was closing the gap with the titans at the top and began studying furiously. He consistently ranked fourth or fifth and thought he might have a chance to break into the top three. However, when the final exam results were released, Er Bao, in third place, had beaten him—the fourth-place student—by a whopping forty-five points! He almost spat out a mouthful of blood. A two-point gap in the midterms had ballooned into a forty-five-point landslide.
Are they even human?
He later heard that Er Bao and San Bao had the same physics teacher. They were always the first to run to the teacher's office whenever they had a question. The teacher really liked inquisitive students, and since the two girls were excellent students to begin with, they understood concepts immediately with just a bit of guidance.
If Si Bao's academic performance were included, he would likely rank fourth or fifth in the grade. His grades weren't too far behind.
Next year, in his third year of junior high, Si Bao would participate in the Youth Olympics. He would have to compete in the second semester of his second year to qualify for the Games. Si Bao's coach, Qiao, was in charge of his competitions. Currently, including Si Bao, Qiao had only four students under his wing. He devoted all his energy to them and had been solely responsible for their training since they graduated from sixth grade. Next up, they were going to compete in tournaments all across the country.
The family never missed one of San Bao's concerts, even if it meant taking time off. And of course, the family would be there to support Si Bao in his competitions.
According to Coach Qiao, Si Bao was a rare, all-around athlete. With his tremendous athletic talent, he was bound to shine brightly in the future. Coach Qiao had discovered even more potential in Si Bao.
Heading into the next competition, he had a premonition. The normally low-key Si Bao was sure to make a stunning impact.
