My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 488 A Piece of Filial Piety

Summer arrived, and the long vacation began.

A pregnant woman's body temperature is higher than average, so Zhang Yuxi felt exceptionally hot, no matter what she did. She couldn't possibly stay in an air-conditioned room all day, could she?

Lin Feng wanted to take the whole family somewhere cooler to escape the heat, but Zhang Yuxi's temper flared up again. She didn't want to move because the baby was kicking too much. The baby's movements were visible even through a layer of clothing. Whenever the quads and Lin Feng had free time, they loved to interact with the baby in her belly. Some told stories, some sang, one played the violin, and others played games with the baby.

Zhang Yuxi's irritable mood gradually eased as she reflected on her pregnancy with the quads. She had soldiered through such tough conditions back then. She realized now that she was just being overly sensitive and getting worked up over nothing. With that thought, Zhang Yuxi was able to face her current impatient and anxious emotions with a better attitude.

The kids had a five-day break, but their teachers hadn't spared them on the homework. There were piles of test papers for several subjects, practice exercises, and more—a massive amount of work. However, the children finished everything in a single evening, leaving them free time to do things they enjoyed. When it was time to relax, they knew how to relax properly.

Just as the children were about to take their middle school entrance exams, Zhang Yuxi and Lin Feng went to the hospital for an ultrasound. For the first time, they clearly saw the baby's face.

The baby looked quite lovely. The nurse commented at the time, "When this little one grows up, she'll definitely be as beautiful as her mom!"

Zhang Yuxi mulled over the comment, now convinced it was a girl. Lin Feng, on the other hand, didn't care if it was a boy or a girl and wasn't fussed either way.

In the blink of an eye, it was time for the children's middle school entrance exams.

Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi waited outside the school gate. He even bought a stool for Zhang Yuxi to sit on, held an umbrella over her, and fanned her.

The quads were all assigned to the same test center. While they were already guaranteed direct promotion within their school and didn't have to take the exam, they still participated. The exam lasted for one day.

The quads all said it went well and didn't find the questions particularly difficult. A few classmates discussing the exam nearby almost cried when they heard that.

Is this the world of top students? It's terrifying.

"The Physics and English sections this year were insanely difficult, okay?!" one student complained. Many people left the last question blank; they simply didn't know how to solve it. We have no idea which brilliant sadist of a teacher wrote those questions. So infuriating!

When they got home with the kids, the teachers had already posted photos of the answer keys in the group chat, asking students to estimate their own scores. What followed was a chorus of groans in the chat. There was endless crying, especially over physics and English. The scope of the topics was too broad, and a lot of the vocabulary in the English section was new.

The other students noticed the quads hadn't said a word, so they started tagging them, asking for their estimated scores. After seeing them tagged so many times, Lin Feng couldn't pretend he hadn't seen it.

He sent a message: "They're out right now and will be back in a bit. I'll have them contact you."

A student asked, "Is this their uncle?"

Another one chimed in, "Where did they go?"

The answer came back: They had all gone out to play.

Everyone was shocked. That's just insane! So cruel!

But on second thought, what was done was done. Could they turn back time and redo the exam? Obviously not. So, after thinking it over, the other students decided to just move on.

"In that case, let's go out and have some fun!"

However, they never expected what would happen next. When they got back from their outing, they saw the quadruplets had posted their estimated scores. Not counting the subjective portions like essay prompts or open-ended English questions, it was clear the top four ranks were firmly secured by them yet again.

The classmates in the group couldn't sleep. The quads had gone out to genuinely celebrate, while they had merely been enjoying a final bout of revelry before the storm. The official results would be out soon, and their last hurrah was about to come to an end.

Because of Zhang Yuxi's pregnancy, the kids went to Jingcheng for their vacation. Lin Jie took them so they could have a good time. Zhang Yuxi wanted to go too, but at six months pregnant, it was better for Lin Feng to stay home with her.

Every evening, the kids would video call home.

"Dad," San Bao said, smiling at the camera, "we did so many fun things with Uncle Lin Jie today. You and Mom have to come with us next time, okay?"

Lin Feng thought back to their last trip to Jingcheng. That was when Lin Jie had gotten into Peking University with his classmates. The family had stayed for a month before leaving. Back then, the quads hadn't even started kindergarten. Looking back now, it's a flood of memories. In the blink of an eye, the quads are about to start high school. Er Bao and San Bao had blossomed into lovely young ladies, while Da Bao and Si Bao had become bright, handsome young men. And their own little one was about to be born...

"Okay," Lin Feng said with a smile. "After Mom gives birth to the baby, our whole family will go!"

"Dad, Mom," Er Bao squeezed in, "was the baby good today?"

Zhang Yuxi replied from the side, "Very good!"

Da Bao's voice piped up from behind, "Dad, I'll send you photos later!"

Si Bao added, "And we'll bring lots of yummy food back for you!"

"Great!" Lin Feng said. "Ask Uncle Lin Jie where to find the most authentic roast duck and bring a few back!"

Speaking of roast duck, Si Bao exclaimed, "It's super delicious! I'm going to bring back lots and lots of them…"

Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi thought he was just kidding, but it turned out he was serious.

After nearly two weeks of fun, Lin Jie brought the kids back to Yangcheng, a playful look on his face. In the summer, the kids had only brought a change of clothes. When they returned, each of them carried a suitcase, and Lin Jie's was the largest.

"What's all this?" Lin Feng asked.

"Bro," Lin Jie said, panting, "just open it and see for yourself."

Lin Feng opened it. Good heavens, it was a suitcase full of roast ducks! Weren't they worried about it spoiling in the heat? But since they had left in the morning and arrived in just a few hours, there was little chance of it going bad.

He hurriedly put them in the refrigerator, then called Si Bao over. Si Bao's own suitcase was filled with snacks and other tasty treats.

"Dad, what's up?"

"Why did you buy so many roast ducks?"

"So Grandma and Grandpa can try some too! They're really delicious!"

"Well done, son!"

He had to support his son's act of filial piety. Even if the fridge was full, he could make space. He set one aside for An Lan, some for the kids' teachers… There weren't that many to begin with, so after handing them out, most were gone. He even used a local courier service to deliver them. Between the courier fees and the airline baggage charges, the cost far exceeded that of the ducks themselves. These roast ducks had been brought from a thousand miles away—no easy feat!

"I took the quads to see the apartment I rented back in college," Lin Jie mentioned at the dinner table. "The building is still there, but the daycare downstairs has closed down."

Si Bao leaned in. "Dad, I remember that place!"

"You do?" Lin Feng asked.

Si Bao nodded. "I have a vague impression. Anyway, I know I had a good friend there…"

San Bao said she also remembered a little.

Unlike Er Bao and Si Bao, Da Bao and San Bao had the knack for befriending every single child in the daycare. When it was time for them to leave back then, they even gave away their own toys.

After getting back, the quads invited some classmates to hang out. Some of their friends were going to study at different high schools, while others had made other choices. The quads called to say they wouldn't be home for dinner and would be back around eight o'clock.

That left Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi home alone.
