My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 578: I'm Not Well-Read Don't Scare Me

"Ahhh, Daddy, Daddy!"

Lin Feng had been with Fan Fan for so long, but this was the first time he had ever heard her cry so heartbrokenly. He immediately sensed something was wrong and rushed over, only to see Fan Fan running toward him, crying her heart out with one hand outstretched.

Lin Feng's eyes widened—a crab was dangling from Fan Fan's finger, its claws waving menacingly! His heart sank, and he quickly scooped her up.

He filled the sink with water, having Fan Fan submerge her hand along with the crab. The crab had clamped down hard, and her finger was already bleeding! Lin Feng felt a pang of both heartache and guilt as he consoled the sobbing Fan Fan, "There, there, little sweetheart. Don't cry, don't cry. It'll be all right in a moment!"

The commotion woke San Bao, who had already left her room and was in the second-floor hallway. Hearing Fan Fan's cries, she hurried downstairs, asking as she ran, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Lin Feng was too busy consoling Fan Fan to answer.

When San Bao saw what was happening, her heart immediately ached. "Oh, no…" Fan Fan was crying so hard on Lin Feng's shoulder that she was drenched in sweat. San Bao quickly ran to get the first-aid kit.

Da Bao also came downstairs after hearing the noise. The color drained from his face when he saw the situation. "What's going on?"

"It hurts… SOB, SOB…" Fan Fan cried pitifully.

The family gathered around to comfort her. Just then, Si Bao called Da Bao to ask if they should buy some grilled gluten on their way back.

"We don't want any," Da Bao replied, his voice cold. "Hurry back. A crab pinched Fan Fan's hand." Fan Fan's cries were audible even through the phone.

In less than a minute, the crab released its pincer, freeing Fan Fan's finger. Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief. Throughout the ordeal, Fan Fan was very brave and didn't move her finger at all.

With tearful eyes, she looked at her finger and whimpered, "SOB… I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding…"

As the family surrounded them, San Bao disinfected the wound with iodine.

Looking at the cut, Lin Feng said, "Let's give it a quick disinfection. We're going to the hospital for a tetanus shot."

After putting a Band-Aid on the wound, Lin Feng changed Fan Fan's clothes, wiped her sweat, and the family set out. Da Bao sent a message to Er Bao.

"We're going to get a tetanus shot."

Hearing this, Er Bao and Si Bao realized it must be serious and rushed to the address he sent.

A drive of less than ten minutes brought them to the community hospital, where they met up with Er Bao and Si Bao, who were just arriving. Inside, they found a long line of people waiting for vaccinations, most of them children.

Fan Fan had never made getting shots easy; not once had it been accomplished without the entire family's involvement. They tried every trick in the book, but in the end, they always had to resort to force. There was no helping it. She would grow out of it when she was older.

Oh, boy. The moment they stepped inside, the sound of other children crying from their shots instantly scared Fan Fan into silence. Tears clung to her chubby little face as she looked around in terror. "Daddy, let's go! Daddy, let's go!"

Lin Feng comforted her, "Fan Fan, sweetheart, you have to get a shot because the crab bit you. Look, it was even bleeding!"

Fan Fan refused to listen. "Go! Daddy, let's go! I don't want a shot!"

Oh, dear. That just made her cry even harder. At that moment, it was hard to tell if she was more upset about the shot or the crab pinch; all that was clear was that she was very, very upset.

Seeing that Lin Feng wasn't budging, Fan Fan decided to take matters into her own hands, struggling to get down and escape his embrace.

Lin Feng held her tight. "We have to get this shot, sweetheart!"

Fan Fan howled. Her wails were so infectious that they set off another round of crying from the children who had just quieted down. Her four older siblings all tried to console her, but nothing worked.

Finally, Fan Fan threw a tantrum. "No! I don't want it! I just don't want it!"

"Daddy's mean! You're all mean! That stone is mean, too! I don't like it anymore!"

Ultimately, it was Lin Feng who found a solution. He waited for a lull when Fan Fan was exhausted from crying and spoke with a stern expression.

"But if you don't get the shot, your finger will go bad, and you'll lose it forever."

All five children stared at Lin Feng in unison. San Bao quickly glanced at Fan Fan, worried she might have another outburst.

Fan Fan just froze, her expression clearly saying, What are you talking about? I'm just a kid, don't try to scare me like that.

There wasn't a hint of a joke on Lin Feng's face. He explained patiently and gently, "Crabs are super strong. They can snap a finger right off! If we get this little shot, it'll start to get better."

"You saw it yourself. It was bleeding a lot, wasn't it? That's very serious, right?"

At this, Fan Fan stopped crying. She stared blankly at her cute, caterpillar-like finger, probably still in shock. After all, she was on the verge of losing it. She wiggled it, felt that it was still there, and sniffled.

The other four picked up on this line of reasoning and started trying to persuade her.

Da Bao went first. "Fan Fan, if you don't get the little shot, you might lose your hand. Then you won't be able to play a lot of your games."

Fan Fan was perplexed. Wait, didn't he say I'd lose a finger? How did it turn into my whole hand?

Before the little girl could process this, Er Bao added with dramatic flair, "Oh my gosh, we'd better get that shot right away! How will Fan Fan eat her dinner without a hand?"

Fan Fan froze again. You could just feed me!

San Bao coaxed her gently, "Fan Fan, do you want to lose your finger?"

Fan Fan shook her head, looking blankly at San Bao, about to cry again. SOB… but I really don't want a shot!

Si Bao was even more theatrical than Er Bao. "If that happens, it's very likely your finger will disappear first, and then your whole hand will be gone, too!"

Fan Fan shrank back, clutching her little hand, a terrified look on her face. She didn't want to lose her whole hand!

Hmm, who else just said that?

For that last comment, Er Bao and San Bao both nudged Si Bao. Da Bao shot her a glare that seemed to say, That's taking it too far!
