That day, the weather was rather cool.
After having breakfast, Lin Feng took his wife and daughter out for a day of fun.
Once he had dressed Little Bao in a small skirt and white shoes, and tied her hair into a top knot, Lin Feng began to pack.
Summer had arrived, and it wasn't kind to chubby babies like her. Her plumpness made her prone to heat rash whenever she sweated, which could even damage her skin if it wasn't tended to properly. This called for prickly heat powder and body powder. The prickly heat powder was useful for pain relief, itch reduction, and inflammation, while also sterilizing the skin and preventing the rash from recurring. The body powder helped absorb moisture and keep the skin smooth, further reducing the chances of heat rash. And because Little Bao was a little princess, they had to be used with extra caution.
To keep the chubby little princess from getting heat rash and to ensure she stayed clean and refreshed, she needed a bath every day at noon, in the afternoon, and again in the evening. Applying body powder after her bath would make the little darling feel even more cool and comfortable!
Little Bao loved to play, so when they went out, Lin Feng would always bring 500 mL of warm water and a face towel. When Little Bao got tired from playing, he could wipe her down. Finally, he packed a children's sunscreen. Its plant-based ingredients were very safe and would keep the baby from getting sunburned.
With everything ready, Lin Feng slung the bag over his shoulder. "Let's go, we're off!"
The first stop was, of course, the amusement park.
Zhang Yuxi stood off to one side, wearing a sun hat and holding an umbrella. Beside her sat a backpack and some toys they had bought.
And Lin Feng? He was taking Little Bao on the carousel. For children Little Bao's age, a parent had to accompany them, so Zhang Yuxi and Lin Feng took turns.
What was there to play at the amusement park? Ring toss, claw machines, water spray cars, a children's mini-train, and so much more! Little Bao could ride each attraction several times and not get tired of it.
"Daddy, I want that one!"
Lin Feng turned to look. Good grief, ice cream! What's more, the child eating it was about the same size as Little Bao.
Looking at Little Bao's flushed little face, Lin Feng said, "Alright, let Mommy wipe your sweat off while Daddy goes to buy it."
"Okay!"
Lin Feng bought an ice cream cone. Then, he took one big bite, and half of it was gone.
"Here you go!"
Zhang Yuxi turned to see the half-eaten cone and shot Lin Feng a knowing smile.
Little Bao took the cone, puzzled. She glanced at the other customers coming out of the shop. Why don't their cones look like mine?
"Little Bao, they said because you're a baby, you can only eat this much!"
But Little Bao wasn't so easily fooled. She pointed at the large cone another child her age was holding. We're the same age, so why is hers so much bigger than mine!
Lin Feng explained, "Because that one is a serving for two people. She's sharing it with her mom. Since I'm not having any, the shopkeeper only made this much for you."
Little Bao didn't doubt him for a second; her trust in Lin Feng was one hundred percent. She immediately started eating the cone with delight. "Daddy, I want to play with the bubble machine."
"Didn't you just play with it?"
"But I want to play again!"
With summer here, there were people eating ice cream everywhere. It would be strange if Little Bao, a little foodie, wasn't tempted. But she was just a child and couldn't have too much for fear of getting diarrhea. She had previously promised not to overeat, but she conveniently forgot that promise the moment she finished her treat.
After another round of playing, she saw someone eating a frozen ice pop and wanted one of those, too.
"Those are very hard. Your little teeth can't bite them yet!" Lin Feng said, holding Little Bao in his arms. "How about Daddy takes you for some juice instead? Freshly squeezed juice is delicious."
Little Bao nodded. As long as there was something to eat, she was happy!
While Little Bao had freshly squeezed juice, Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi both had chilled, sweet-and-sour drinks. Little Bao took one sip of her dad's drink and couldn't stop, wanting to swap with him.
"Then can Daddy have one more sip?"
"Okay!"
Lin Feng gave Zhang Yuxi a meaningful look; the couple's coordination was impeccable. As Zhang Yuxi diverted Little Bao's attention, Lin Feng took a huge gulp, nearly draining the cup in a few sips. Luckily, there were still ice cubes inside, so Little Bao didn't notice and began drinking it happily.
Lin Feng reminded her, "After you finish this, you can't have anything else cold, or your little tummy will hurt, okay?"
With a tasty drink in hand, Little Bao was quick to agree.
After leaving the amusement park, the family of three went to a nearby restaurant. Lin Feng ordered, while Zhang Yuxi called Zhao Lizhen to let her know they wouldn't be back for dinner. After their meal, they strolled around for a while longer before finally heading home.
That evening, Little Bao excitedly video-called her older siblings to tell them about all the delicious food she ate that day!
「In the blink of an eye, the holiday was over!」
Back in Yangcheng, the second child and the others didn't get home until one in the morning. Lin Feng was worried about them arriving so late, so he set an alarm to go pick them up from the airport.
Surprisingly, he encountered a few of his fans at the airport. Despite his low-key lifestyle, Lin Feng still had his own following. Just that day at the amusement park, someone had recognized him and asked for a photo, which Lin Feng had politely declined.
The second child and the others confidently struck a few poses, chatted briefly with the fans, and then got into the car.
"Have you eaten?" Lin Feng asked.
"Yes," the second child replied. They had brought plenty of food with them on the private jet, so they hadn't gone hungry.
Even though the kids had already eaten, Lin Feng still made them some millet porridge and a few light, cold side dishes. In the summer, sipping on warm porridge and eating cool dishes was incredibly comforting for the stomach. Everyone happily devoured a large bowl.
Lin Feng reminded them, "Rest for a bit after eating before you go to sleep. Don't take a shower right away; it's not good for your digestion."
They had also brought back quite a few things from their trip. The second child handed Lin Feng a bag. "Dad, this is a gift we bought for you and Mom."
A look of gratified warmth spread across Lin Feng's face.
Entering their room, he woke Zhang Yuxi. "They're back," he said softly.
"Mm-hmm." After Lin Feng had left, Zhang Yuxi had only been dozing lightly. She propped herself up. "What's that in your hand?"
"Gifts from the kids."
Hearing this, Zhang Yuxi eagerly leaned in to take a look. The couple didn't care whether the gifts were expensive or not; the simple thought behind them was more than enough.
They opened the bag. For Lin Feng, there was a sky-blue T-shirt that felt cool and comfortable to the touch. For Zhang Yuxi, there was a long, floral-print dress with a beautiful and fashionable design. Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi both wore standard sizes, which made buying clothes for them easy.
Lin Feng quickly took the new clothes for a rinse. After a quick hand wash, he hung them up to dry, figuring they would be ready by morning.
"Let's sleep now," he said.
Zhang Yuxi shook her head. "I can't sleep..."
"Then let's talk for a while."
Zhang Yuxi rested her head in Lin Feng's embrace, playfully fiddling with his fingers. "Honey, time flies. In the blink of an eye, I'm already forty."
Lin Feng hummed in agreement. "It sure does. The kids will be graduating high school and heading off to college soon."
Zhang Yuxi looked up at him. "You've worked so hard for this family all these years, honey!"
Lin Feng's eyebrow arched slightly. "Is that what you want to talk about?"
Zhang Yuxi was puzzled. Isn't this what people usually talk about?
Lin Feng chuckled softly, and Zhang Yuxi instantly caught on. Even in his forties, he hadn't lost an ounce of his vigor; he was more than a match for her at this stage of her life.
