Wasteland: My Items Can Be Infinitely Upgraded

Chapter 150: Escape from the Ruins Illusions Above Tier Three (Part 2)

After reaching the negative third floor, with only over twenty kilometers left, Bai Ye suggested everyone take a rest first, recover well, to prevent any accidents during the subsequent transport.

After all, these were the future of the Salvation Army and couldn't afford any negligence.

After finishing the instructions, Bai Ye turned to Lin Feng and said:

"If you still have the strength, the two of us will take one of the bullet-making machines to the surface first."

According to the agreement, one of the two bullet-manufacturing pressing machines belonged to Lin Feng, so the latter nodded and cooperated with Bai Ye to lift it.

In the past, moving mechanical equipment weighing over ten tons required large cranes or gantry cranes.

Now, in the hands of two Tier Two Evolvers, it was lifted steadily, heading towards the exit from the negative third floor to the negative second floor.

When Lin Feng stood at the stairway entrance, the sunlight shining on the battle armor instantly emitted white mist; fortunately, Bai Ye positioned himself in front to guide the direction, so Lin Feng, who lost sight, only needed to follow.

After walking another ten kilometers in one go, just when they were about to enter the negative first floor, Bai Ye noticed Lin Feng's steps slow, so he asked him to put down the machine for a short break.

The two sat on the steps, looking up.

Orange-yellow sunlight shone above the main road, the floating cotton-like dust in the air coated with a layer of golden light.

"What did you actually see inside the negative eighth floor?"

During the break, Bai Ye couldn't hold back and asked.

Lin Feng kept his gaze fixed on a spot, in the shadow at the side of the stairway that the sunlight couldn't directly reach.

As if something had chased all the way from the bottom to there, still lingering.

Bai Ye followed his gaze, seeing nothing, so she frowned slightly:

"Are you hallucinating? Psychic pollution shouldn't so easily invade a Tier Two Evolver."

Lin Feng glanced sideways, noticing:

"Detected unknown energy invading the brain, do you want to spend ten Life Value points to perform a cleanse?"

He remembered a similar prompt appearing the last time when contaminated with alien gene impurities, only needing to spend some Life Value for the system to clean it up, preventing the body from being polluted by alien genes and maintaining Purity Evolution.

Now it reappeared but was related to psychic pollution.

In Lin Feng's view, after witnessing the eerie scene at the top of the negative eighth floor, a black viscous substance coalesced in the shadows within his sight.

It resembled a ferrofluid, but floated in mid-air, its shape not fixed, ever-changing.

To the point where Lin Feng initially thought it was a vision, or something dirty he had come in contact with.

Until the clear side-eye reminder, and after Bai Ye couldn't see this black substance, Lin Feng confirmed this was some kind of psychic pollution that had inadvertently infiltrated into his consciousness.

And that pollution, at this moment, was gradually forming a humanoid shape out of its irregular state.

Lin Feng wanted to see what it actually was.

After all, the system could directly remove it, and as long as it's under the sunlight, it would disappear just like the mutated mucus on the surface of the battle armor.

But his intuition told Lin Feng this certainly wasn't simple psychic pollution or genetic radiation, and might be related to evolution above Tier Three.

For instance, at that moment, he felt a watching gaze cast from within the entire ruins.

Such a feeling, Lin Feng had experienced at the summit of Lao Mountain, and also during the Moonlight Ceremony in the Upper District...

But that was from the Scorching Sun Curse, and now a similar feeling could appear at the bottom of the Taishan Ruins.

Though both were Restricted Areas, Lin Feng had never thought the bottom of Mount Tai would be like this.

Fortunately, this wasn't like the Scorching Sun Curse, which directly enveloped one-third of the surface, or else the Mutants would not stop attacking humans all over the world.

Upon thinking this, Lin Feng shook his head, answering Bai Ye:

"Maybe it's not a hallucination, it might indeed exist, just temporarily cannot manifest."

Bai Ye frowned slightly; she seemed to have heard similar descriptions from some Mad Kings forcibly promoted to Tier Three.

Those madmen either experienced split personalities or lost themselves, becoming dazed and confused.

Could the ruins be so dangerous?!

Everyone had already completed their tasks and objectives and had walked into the sunlight, even if there were changes inside the ruins, even piles of Tier Three Mutants, they couldn't withstand the sunlight.

The Scorching Sun is like a potent medicine, able to clear all radiation and pollution, but even medicines have a three-part toxicity; once exposure and absorption exceed a certain degree, it would again form the most troublesome and terrifying Scorching Sun Curse.

However, considering the need to return to continue transporting production equipment in the future, Bai Ye continued to ask:

"You said the ruins discovered us, did you sense something existing?"

"I use the spatial superpower to isolate the inside and outside, and external psychic pollution can't invade, but my own perception of the outside world would be weakened to a certain extent."

"Tier Two Evolvers, after achieving bodily immortality, will have some mysterious sixth sense appear, which is an extension of oneself's perception of reality, like feeling a sense of foreboding when danger approaches."

"It's actually a part of the body, a cell organization with keen perception, predicting potential threats in the environment, and providing an early warning."

"So at that moment, did Captain Lin feel something, like an illusion of being watched?"

Lin Feng nodded; Bai Ye was much older than him and had been in Tier Two Evolution for many years, perhaps she could answer the doubts in his heart at the moment:

"The thing that appeared behind you earlier was a mutated creature with a flesh tube connected to its abdomen, hanging from the top of the negative eighth floor, initially judged to be a mutated egg that failed to hatch."
