Chris pulled the Snow Rabbit, Kael, in front of him,
"While the Lizardmen's attention is still here, go ask for help!"
"Can I... can I do it?"
Kael's voice trembled.
"You're the fastest in the woods and know this place the best. This task has to be yours!"
Chris commanded loudly, "Go quickly!"
"Okay, okay, okay!"
Kael's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard,
"Wait for me, Lord Chris, you must wait for me!"
Kael glanced at Chris, then the other soldiers around him, and immediately leapt into the snow, racing south towards Black Pine Ridge.
At this moment, Kael was no longer running like a human; he reverted to his nature, running on all fours like a rabbit.
"You all take the captives inside first!"
Chris barked an order, and the soldiers quickly ducked into the cave.
Six sentinels also dashed down from the hillside, and behind them, the figures of Lizardmen were already appearing.
"Speed up!"
Chris shouted sharply, covering the sentinels as they ran into the cave.
In a matter of moments, the densely packed figures of Lizardmen occupied the hill, and seeing Chris and the others running into the cave, they panicked, throwing spears towards the cave like they were free!
"Watch out!"
Chris grabbed a sentinel by the collar, forcibly dragging the last man into the cavern.
The soldier was shaken and couldn't help but shout, "Thank you!"
Chris had no time to respond,
"Block the entrance!"
"Yes!"
The soldiers immediately began to move, pushing nearby boulders to block the cave entrance!
This was an abandoned hiding place of the Snow Rabbit People, with a large interior space but an entrance just over two meters wide that could be completely sealed by boulders.
Of course, sealing the entrance was not a long-term solution.
Chris had ideas for dealing with those hiding in the cave himself.
His main purpose was still to stall these Lizardmen.
Though hope was slim, Chris still hoped they could hold out until Kael brought back reinforcements.
Chris was a bit puzzled as to how the enemy could accurately find this place, and why it was right after Gang Le and Rein had left.
Could there be a traitor in the team?
Chris's gaze swept over the soldiers.
None of these men had left here, so it was impossible for them to inform the Lizardmen.
Furthermore, everyone's families were in Frost Leaf Town, making it highly unlikely they would act as spies for the alien race of Lizardmen.
Chris cast aside the notion from his mind.
In such a critical life-and-death moment, he should not doubt his soldiers.
Besides, there was no time to think more as the boulder was already being pounded from outside with a thumping sound.
Chris didn't know what the enemy was using to strike, but he felt the entire cave trembling.
"Hold the line!"
Chris brandished his sword, issuing a loud order, "We must hold until Kael returns!"
"Yes!"
The subordinates responded in unison, pressing their bodies tightly against the boulder to resist the Lizardmen's assault.
Chris had initially thought they would use fire or smoke attacks.
But the Lizardmen didn't light any fires; they relied on brute strength to continuously strike.
They took turns hitting, leveraging their numbers, and even with wooden poles supporting the boulder, it was barely enough to withstand.
"Lord, we can't hold on!"
The soldiers panted heavily, their cheeks wet with sweat.
Chris understood they weren't just complaining; they really couldn't hold on.
Because Chris could also clearly feel the weight on his shoulders.
Chris's thoughts raced at lightning speed.
This way wasn't viable.
The soldiers were exhausted, too spent to fend off the Lizardmen.
"Cut off all the limbs of the Lizardmen and leave them, everyone divide into three teams, five people each!"
Chris shouted an order, "The first team with me will block the entrance, the second and third teams prepare to fight at any time!"
Chris no longer cared about the lives of the Lizardmen captives; as long as they could hold out, it was enough.
"Yes, Lord Knight!"
The soldiers responded in unison, quickly dividing into teams, and Chris directed, "On the count of three, withdraw and release!"
"Ready!"
"Three, two, one, release!"
At Chris's command, those blocking the entrance swiftly retreated!
With a loud bang, the boulder slammed to the ground, and three Lizardmen at the entrance were knocked down by the inertia onto the boulder!
"Kill!"
Chris roared in fury, his longsword sweeping down, instantly sending a Lizardman's head flying!
The soldiers beside him also wielded their longswords, stabbing through the chests of the other two Lizardmen!
Blood spurted out, and the thick scent of blood filled the cave!
"Roar!"
"Kill!"
The Lizardmen roared in anger; the soldiers shouted in defiance, and a melee of sword and sword flashed at the entrance!
Chris stood at the forefront, his longsword like the scythe of the grim reaper, taking four or five Lizardmen lives in an instant!
The other soldiers supported from the sides, forcibly holding back the Lizardmen's advance.
But the respite was short-lived.
The Lizardmen, realizing their repeated charges were ineffective, began hurling spears into the cave to suppress them!
This forced Chris and the soldiers to scatter to both sides to dodge, and the Lizardmen took this opportunity to charge with spiked round shields into the cave!
"Stand firm!"
Chris shouted hoarsely, picking up a Lizardman's spiked round shield and charging forward!
...
...
"Faster, even faster!"
Kael gasped as he raced through the snowy forest.
He dared not look back, nor did he want to disappoint Chris's hopes.
He could only run with all his might and pray he encountered soldiers patrolling into Razor Plain.
Even though Kael knew in his heart that his prayers were mere illusions.
"Wait for me, you must wait for me!"
Kael recited silently, suddenly feeling the calm snowfield beneath him begin to tremble.
He quickly lifted his head, looking ahead.
