Not long after everyone returned to their rooms, people in each room received a phone call informing them of the power outage.
After receiving this call, Zhou Yingting quickly asked whether the candles had arrived. Upon getting a positive response, Zhou Yingting immediately requested the candles to be delivered.
Soon after the call ended, the various lighting equipment in the room suddenly dimmed out with a snap.
The entire room was completely devoid of any light at this moment.
However, as the lights inside the room disappeared, the emergency lights in the hallway outside came on.
But as these dim, somewhat yellowish emergency lights lit up, rustling noises could be heard outside.
Just from listening to the noise, it was impossible to tell what it was, but it was enough to make one's heart creep with fear.
A moment later, there was a knock on the door.
As the knocking started, a voice accompanied it.
"Hello guest, I'm here to deliver the candles."
Upon hearing the voice, Zhou Yingting immediately got up and walked to the door, preparing to open it. However, he instinctively glanced through the peephole.
Yet, through the peephole, Zhou Yingting saw no one outside the door.
This scene made Zhou Yingting frown, then he looked down.
With light outside the door, Zhou Yingting clearly saw a shadow under the door gap.
Seeing this, Zhou Yingting was shocked. Was the person outside really the employee delivering the candles?
If not, could it be the danger that the previous employee mentioned would occur during a power outage?
"Bang bang!"
Just as Zhou Yingting frowned in anxiety, there was another knock on the door.
"Sir, please open the door!"
This person, something is off!
Upon hearing the voice, Zhou Yingting instinctively took a step back.
If his memory was correct, the previous employees addressing him at the door would specifically call him Mr. Zhou or Sir.
Using "guest" directly was something he hadn't heard before.
So, was the person outside not an employee?
Zhou Yingting contemplated with a frown, meanwhile, the knocking on the door became more intense.
The urgent knocking made Zhou Yingting even more anxious.
"Sir, please open the door quickly, I still need to deliver candles to other places!"
The voice outside continued to urge.
Hearing this voice, Zhou Yingting thought for a moment, then stepped back to the bedside.
Subsequently, Zhou Yingting spoke to the outside, "I'm getting dressed right now. If you're in a hurry, just leave the candles at the door; I'll get them myself."
After speaking, Zhou Yingting yawned, pretending to have just woken up.
After hearing Zhou Yingting's voice, the outside fell silent for a few seconds before continuing.
"Sir, please hurry and get the candles. We need to hand them directly to the guest."
With those words, he knocked on the door again, seemingly in a hurry.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yingting's heart sank slightly. While stalling for time, he picked up the nearby landline to call the front desk.
"When can you deliver the candles?"
As soon as the call connected, Zhou Yingting asked in a low voice.
The voice on the other end replied immediately after a crackling sound, "We've already sent them to you; they should be at the door by now."
At the door?
Could it be that the person outside actually was an employee and all this was just overthinking?
Thinking this, Zhou Yingting frowned and asked, "How long does it typically take you to bring up the candles?"
He wanted to estimate the time it took them to arrive and compare it to when the knocking started.
The voice on the other end paused for a moment, then said, "It only takes about a minute."
A minute?
If so, the person outside should actually be an employee.
Just as Zhou Yingting was about to hang up the call, he suddenly asked, "By the way, is the person delivering the candles the same employee I spoke with this morning?"
"During the morning, I told her to bring the candles."
"Yes, she's the one delivering the candles."
The voice on the phone quickly confirmed.
But once the voice fell, Zhou Yingting suddenly felt a chill run through him.
Damn, the person outside isn't even an employee, and has the phone been compromised too?
Realizing this, Zhou Yingting broke into a cold sweat.
He remembered discussing with that morning employee not to press the elevator for the sake of information, and there was no need for her to deliver candles.
This was a prior arrangement.
Yet, now the voice on the phone claimed she was delivering the candles, clearly stating it was her.
This made absolutely no sense.
To note, the employee he spoke with in the morning was a woman, and the voice now was male, which didn't match.
If the front desk were really making this call, it wouldn't lie about such a thing.
As Zhou Yingting fell silent, the voice on the line also realized something was amiss.
