The Healer More Powerful Than A Warrior

Chapter 392: An Unexpected Catastrophe

Under the overwhelming attack from Lin Ye, the Filters couldn't even touch him before completely losing their ability to rise again.

"Impressive, impressive! No wonder you're able to make it here; you truly have something special."

Voices of admiration kept coming from nearby, clearly amazed by the power Lin Ye displayed.

Lin Ye did not respond, merely looked around perplexingly, his eyes filled with doubt.

"Is that all?"

If the task was to kill the Filters, then clearly Lin Ye should have seen a notification indicating task completion.

But at present, no such notification appeared.

Meaning, things weren't over yet; there were still other matters to be addressed.

Eliminating the Filters was just one of the steps.

"Oh, what do you mean by 'is that all'?" the voice sounded again.

Lin Ye didn't answer, simply asked, "Where are you?"

"I'm here, just wait a moment." The voice sounded once more.

At this moment, the enormous light source that Lin Ye had spotted from afar was gradually dimming.

As the light diminished, Lin Ye finally saw what had been hidden by the light.

What appeared was a spindle-shaped crystal, about ten meters tall, with a width of about three meters at its widest. Inside this widest section was something quite like a brain.

Evidently, this was the source of the voice Lin Ye had heard from the start.

"What's this..." Lin Ye raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised to find something resembling a brain-in-a-vat here.

However, to say he was too shocked, it wasn't that extreme.

Creatures of the Abyss, in their quest for immortality, devised all sorts of strange methods to torment themselves.

The simplest, of course, was to transform themselves into Undead Creatures.

But this pursuit for undeath seemed to defy the original quest for immortality, prompting some to experiment with their flesh.

Regardless, such situations were not uncommon.

"Do I look ridiculous like this?" The voice spoke again, the Tank Brain was talking to Lin Ye.

"Not really, I'm just curious, what's the purpose of all this?" Lin Ye asked curiously.

If immortality was the goal, Lin Ye found it hard to understand how the Tank Brain had managed to curse its tribe, forcing them into exile.

"Hehe... I... I just wanted to find a way to have my own secrets, that's why I cut my brain off for research."

These words were filled with helplessness.

And the motive left Lin Ye somewhat astonished...

He never thought the goal wasn't immortality but to possess one's secrets!

Lin Ye glanced at the various floating corpses around, a cold look flashed in his eyes.

This guy, evidently, before cutting off his brain, had harmed quite a few of his fellow tribesmen.

From the moment Lin Ye entered, he had seen various black objects here, which were actually the numerous floating corpses.

"Don't misunderstand, they were all voluntary. The desire to have secrets was not mine alone." The Tank Brain, evidently sensing Lin Ye's emotional shift, hurriedly added.

"So it seems you failed?" Lin Ye asked.

Because this guy still couldn't hide his thoughts; Lin Ye could see through them effortlessly.

"Yes, I failed, and failed miserably... I tried every method, like creating a helmet to block thought vibrations, but the helmet caused resonance and exploded the brains of those involved in the experiment.

I also tried surgical methods, partially excising some brains, resulting in a high mortality rate, and those who survived essentially lost their ability to think..."

"Stop, stop, just tell me what you came up with in the end." Lin Ye interrupted his reminiscing.

These grotesque experiments were of no interest to Lin Ye.

"Haha, alright! Finally, I came up with a method. Since the spatial tremors were caused by thoughts, why not store my brain somewhere while my body acted outside?"

"I must say, when I proposed this idea, the entire tribe was ecstatic, calling me a genius!"

As Lin Ye listened, he couldn't help but twitch his lips.

Such an unreliable notion being widely accepted?

Given this tribe's current state, it's not too hard to understand...

Who in their right mind would think of cutting off their brain and separating it from their body?

Yet, back then, the Tank Brain and his tribesmen were caught up in a sort of frenzy, desperately wanting to have their own secrets.

"And then?" Lin Ye pursued.

"And then... though my idea gained wide approval, realizing it became the real challenge. I tried numerous methods, but in the end, they all ended in failure.

Because no matter what, we couldn't filter out the ensuing mental waves while remotely controlling our bodies. In other words, even with my brain distanced from my body, others could still perceive my thoughts.

As we were on the brink of despair, someone claiming to be the Rule Demon God came knocking, and thus the nightmare began."

Lin Ye slightly widened his eyes, surprised that this matter involved Gongsun.

Considering Gongsun's tendency to stir up trouble, it was no surprise he'd intervene in such an entertaining tribe.

"He said if we formed a pact with him, he could create a creature called the 'Filter' to help us filter out the mental waves caused by controlling the body..." the Tank Brain continued.

Lin Ye's forehead was already wet with a sweat of exasperation.

"So you agreed to it?" He asked speechlessly.

"Yes, we agreed... and the Filters he created could indeed filter out the thought waves, but it turned out that they did it by consuming brains to achieve brain wave filtering."

Unsurprisingly, the Tank Brain's tribesmen fell into Gongsun's trap, becoming food for the Filters...

Meanwhile, other tribesmen, to escape the Filters' pursuit, could only wander across different dimensions.

As for the specifics, Lin Ye did not know.

But given Gongsun's cunning, deceiving these mentally transparent braniacs apparently wasn't difficult at all.
