Sarah POV

Hollis looks up at me with their hands clasped in front of their chest, they are just finishing up thanking me for all the times I've helped Ren, "And thank you for supporting her majesty when-"

"Hollis, Hollis," I interrupt, "You're welcome. Okay?"

The cute new vess blushes and stutters, "B-ut"

I ruffle the cutie's hair, then lean down to scoop them up in a big hug, effectively silencing them. While Ren is a brat, Hollis seems to be more of a princess, much easier to handle. Speaking of, Ren is starting to pout really hard, she's even crossing her arms, which is how you can tell she is about to start whining. I can't believe she is already jealous.

Fortunately, Enna is here to bail me out, as the tall vess leans down and scoops Ren up into her arms, eliciting a surprised squeak from the tiny queen.

I shoot Enna a grin, "Thanks. Looks like we are going to have our hands full with these two."

Enna returns my grin with her usual serene smile, "While Hollis is certainly a capable mage, and will make for a fine companion, they sadly do not have the capabilities for caretaking." Telling the different expressions apart on the vess' face can be difficult, as the tells are subtle, but I've been getting pretty good at it lately and I can tell that Enna is amused.

Ren squirms in Enna's arms, "H-hey!"

Hollis squirms in my arms, "U-Um, I can, I mean, I will-"

"Shhhh." I squeeze the smaller vess, "Don't worry about it." Relinquishing my hold on the cutie, I step back so we can make eye contact, not that Hollis can hold it for very long, "Got a favor to ask you. There is a lake nearby, can you teleport me to it?"

The Magi perks up, "Oh? Oh! The message you left!" They tilt their head to the side, so cute, "Are you sure it's safe? What if Lord Josh is upset with you?"

"You read English?" I ask, allowing myself to sound surprised.

Hollis nods seriously, "Of course, my lady has extensive knowledge of the language, and by extension, so do I."

"Right." I run my hand through my hair, it's gotten so long, "It'll be fine, he'd have to be a huge dick to just attack someone else from Earth."

The fluffy Magi scrunches their eyebrows together before a look of realization shines on their face, "Oh! This is a part of the 'Earth rules', correct?"

I raise an eyebrow at Ren, "How much of your knowledge do they have access to again?"

Ren has managed to squirm free of Enna's arms at this point, "Um, all of it?" She follows her statement by ducking her head with an adorable smile.

I roll my eyes. She recently figured out she can get away with stuff by acting cute, kind of my fault for not correcting her. "Okay… Yeah, it's Earth rules. Will you teleport me, Hollis?"

"I'm coming too!" Ren declares, grabbing onto my arm with her nonexistent strength.

"Sure, just be careful, okay?" I take her hand and lead her over to Hollis.

Ren just nods in response. "Mmm."

"I shall wait nearby." Enna bows and disappears into the shadows.

Hollis raises a hand, a hole in the world tears open in front of us, revealing a clear lake on the other side. I lead Ren through while Hollis follows, closing the tear behind us. The lake is breathtaking, so clear you can see almost all the way to the bottom. Bright and colorful fish swim through the water, makes me wish I had time to fish.

The sun is going to be setting soon, hopefully this Josh guy can get here before dark. I don't plan on waiting around for too long, especially not with these cuties under my care.

I lead the two little vess over to a nearby log so we can sit and watch the lake as we wait.

It's quiet and peaceful. Ren cuddles into my side, while Hollis seems very interested in watching the fish. I let myself relax and feel grateful for my new life. This is nice. Way better than fighting for Lotheris. Way better than fighting with my step-mom.

My thoughts can't help but go to my younger sisters. I hope they are doing okay; I probably won't be able to get back to help them anytime soon. Please take care of each other. Step-hag had better not have sold my car, although I wouldn't be surprised if she did. I'd much rather one of my sisters have it.

Ren lets out a yawn and rubs her eyes. I tuck her a little closer, she just ate, so she is probably going to need a nap soon. Soon turns into right now as Ren crawls the rest of the way into my lap and shuts her eyes. Smiling, I run my hand over her hair, smoothing loose stands out of her eyes and scratching lightly at the base of her horns. She wiggles her tail in the way that says she is enjoying herself and lets out an adorable sigh.

Guess I can't just up and go back to Earth now anyways.
