The Aloof Girl Opens the Door of Her Heart Only to Him

chapter 52 - Gathering.

“Where are you all now? I’ve arrived at a gate; there are many savages inside.”Reading Ren Yongnian’s message, Fang Qing lifted her eyes to the distant Furry-Demon gate and replied, “I’m here too, but I don’t see you.”Ren Yongnian answered almost immediately, “There must be multiple gates. I’ll wait a bit to see if others come to break through together—the savages are simply too many.”“I plan to wait a while as well.”Having sent her reply, Fang Qing concealed herself a thousand meters from the gate, waiting for cultivators to arrive. Meanwhile, she sent Luo Hong a message: “How are things on your end?”“Quite lucky—Rabbit’s Blessing really works. I’ve joined up with Jiang Yong, Mu Lie, He Xinghuai, and nearly nine others.”Seeing Luo Hong’s message, Fang Qing was speechless. She had only encountered two people so far; Luo Hong already had a small squad. Why such a difference? Wary, she didn’t respond but closed her eyes to sense the Abyss’s invasion. After some time, she opened them again when the Voice-Transmission Stone vibrated.“How’s it going there?”Fang Qing tersely replied to Luo Hong’s message, “Thanks for asking; I’ve reached the gate and am about to break through. Do not disturb.”As expected, Luo Hong sent no further messages. Fang Qing, pleased with the quiet, waited in place for others and to recover.…Time passed. Although the moon in the sky seemed unchanged, Fang Qing could see time flowing with her naked eyes—thanks to the Holy Sanctuary’s records:Total magical artifacts: 24. Already acquired: 7/24. Total talismans, elixirs, array diagrams, and materials: 6742. Already acquired: 876/6742. Used: 314. Remaining: 5866.The detailed tally in the instance task clearly showed how fierce the competition in the secret realm had become. Though she couldn’t tell exactly how long had passed, she judged it had not been too long. At that moment, she saw a long-missed figure—the third person she’d met since entering the realm. By coincidence, she recognized him: the Xuan Yin Sect prodigy, Zhang Mu, who had exchanged glances with her before.Fang Qing did not hide and stepped directly before Zhang Mu. The cold-haired maiden before him drew a faint smile from Zhang Mu as he said, “May I ask what honor brings Fairy Fang here?”“Too many savages ahead. Let’s go together,” she said pointedly, indicating the gate a kilometer off.Zhang Mu nodded toward it with a smile, then his expression stiffened as he turned back to her. “They outnumber us. To avoid injury, should we gather a few more?”At Zhang Mu’s suggestion, Fang Qing nodded calmly. “Mm.”She then stepped aside, standing like an iceberg. Emitting a “keep away” aura, she deterred Zhang Mu from approaching—so they waited together for the next arrival.…Gu Yuan looked at the formidable gate in the distance and said, “Shall we wait a bit?”Fu Zishi feigned thought and slowly said, “We haven’t seen anyone else all the way here. Maybe none are nearby—let’s just force our way in.”“All right. I’ll cover the rear for you,” Gu Yuan agreed at once, taking on the toughest rear-guard duty.At Gu Yuan’s words, Fu Zishi’s lip twitched, and he hurriedly declined, “Hey! That won’t do. A rear-guard task should fall to me, the elder—Young friend Gu should break through.”“No, let me do it—respect for elders and all.”“No, no. You should break out; my generation will hold the rear.”They each insisted several times, until Gu Yuan slowly said, “Why not wait for a few more people and let them decide?”Fu Zishi’s mind raced. Waiting would hamper his chance to ambush Gu Yuan, but charging ahead offered no clear benefit either. From their earlier refusals, he realized Gu Yuan was wary of him; any sneak attack would likely fail. Accepting that, Fu Zishi decided to let go of his plan. After all, these were only some resources—he could cultivate without them. Comforting himself, he spoke after careful thought, “Let’s do that, and no one needs to guard the rear separately—let’s go together.”Fu Zishi’s words puzzled Gu Yuan—this old fellow had never been so agreeable. But despite his confusion, Gu Yuan delivered his prepared line: “Very well, then let’s wait.”Fu Zishi smiled and nodded, and the two of them conferred, ready to join whoever else came to storm the gate.…“Thunder flashes, lightning roars!” Lei Fei bellowed, unleashing the first form of the Thunder Spear. His spear swung in four directions, bold and fierce. Most important was the mystical spear intent he wielded—its force shot toward the sky, magnificently audacious, suffused with stirring will.Even without circulating spiritual energy, a spear imbued with spear intent was unmatched in power. With just a few swings, the overflowing intent swept dozens of Furry Demons to pieces. Laughing heartily at their corpses, Lei Fei shouted, “Grandfather, I will continue your martial path!”He swung his spear again, extravagantly executing the third form of the Thunder Spear. “Heavenly Thunder’s Might!” he cried, thrusting the spear to send forth a thick, solid spear-shadow. The spear-shadow shot forward like a blade through bamboo, ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) annihilating countless demons with no resistance. Lei Fei sprinted along the blood-soaked path carved by the spear-shadow, racing toward the gate’s mouth.Unlike the others, Lei Fei did not wait for companions to join the breach—he chose to charge in alone. And judging by the carnage, he indeed had the strength. He plowed through the Furry-Demon horde like a tiger among sheep, unstoppable. The demons hurled ice balls at him, but they were blocked before reaching him. What intercepted them was nothing but the spear intent Lei Fei had mastered—though he himself did not know what it was called. He only knew that, since reclaiming his heart, this power surged from his spirit and will to become an extension of his spear tip. To him, it felt like a precious legacy left by his late grandfather. The Furry Demons were too many to slay them all, so Lei Fei ultimately relied on sheer might to smash through the gate. After passing the demon gate, he glanced back once more, then strode forward, thinking to himself, ‘Fang Qing, hurry up—I can’t wait any longer.’
