The Aloof Girl Opens the Door of Her Heart Only to Him

chapter 10 - Plunder.

On the earthen path stood a few scattered figures, all facing the Dali Cave entrance and observing everyone who entered. After glancing around, Fang Qing turned to the man she had forced inside and asked, “Do you know where Tingxia Tower is?”“I really don’t,” the man stammered, shrinking back.“Then go ask!” Fang Qing’s tone sharpened with coercion.“All right!” he bolted off toward the nearest person.Fang Qing strolled up to another bystander to inquire about Tingxia Tower’s direction.…A short man with bright eyes saw the beautiful girl approach and preemptively said, “Tingxia Tower? I know where it is.”Fang Qing gave no reaction; her expression remained calm as she said, “Tell me.”Realizing she was unfazed, the short man understood immediately this was no easy mark. He discarded inappropriate thoughts and replied sincerely, “If you head east, you’ll find a tall building with a Tingxia Tower plaque. That’s it.”Fang Qing nodded once, tossed him a curt “Thanks,” and left.“Sure.” The man watched her graceful back and mentally noted her, planning to report to his superiors tonight.…Ignoring the man she’d forced inside, Fang Qing hurried eastward. On the way, she reviewed her current objective: to profit from the conflict between the Wugou Alliance and Tingxia Tower. After confirming her goal, she pressed on.…Fang Qing moved swiftly and soon reached a stretch of crumbling walls. Around them stood several white-robed men armed with weapons, forming a circle around an underground passage.Suspecting they were Wugou Alliance members, Fang Qing silently approached and asked, “Are you all from the Wugou Alliance?”Startled, they realized someone had crept up. A man who appeared to be their leader answered calmly, “Yes, we’re the Wugou Alliance. May I ask your purpose here, miss?”Fang Qing cupped her fist in greeting. “I’m Fang Qing. I heard the Wugou Alliance is attacking Tingxia Tower, so I came to assist.”The man who had spoken sized her up and said, “Miss, you should leave. We don’t require help.”“Why not?” Fang Qing pressed. The man explained, “You’re a young lady of refinement, no need to wade into this mess. The Alliance leader has already led the main force inside. Victory is near; you should go back. This is no place for you.”Hearing this, Fang Qing realized their victory was assured—good for them, but bad for her. She sought a two-sided conflict to pick up ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) profits amid the chaos, not a one-sided rout. She needed to get inside quickly.Without hesitation, she drew Wu Qian and unleashed her full presence, domineeringly declaring, “You don’t know my strength. If I wish to help, you cannot refuse!”Her arrogance was that of a spoiled noble. Since they viewed her as a lady, she’d play the part to get things done.A vast, majestic aura erupted from Fang Qing, battering the wills of the Wugou Alliance members.Sweat beaded the leader’s brow; he had only ever seen such presence in his master. In other words, this young lady’s power rivaled the Alliance leader’s.Realizing this, he gestured for his men to clear a path and respectfully said, “Miss Fang, please proceed.”Fang Qing lifted her chin and strode into the tunnel without a backward glance.Once she was inside, the leader took out a talisman and inscribed it with writing. After finishing, he infused it with spiritual energy.A mysterious flame ignited, burning the talisman completely with no trace left. When the flame died, he called to his men, “Stay alert. Don’t let anyone else in!”“Yes!”…Inside the narrow passage, flickering candles illuminated the once-dark corridor, revealing the monotony of gray walls.Fang Qing moved swiftly, like a black leopard, along the tunnel. After some distance, she spotted an exit ahead. Quickening her pace, she burst out.She found herself in a spacious chamber strewn with corpses.Walls were splashed dark red with blood; severed limbs littered the floor—a gruesome tableau of carnage.Without hesitation, Fang Qing began looting the bodies. Dead men’s goods were still goods to her.Perhaps the battle had been hasty, for none of the bodies’ possessions were missing. Fang Qing collected anything usable, stowing it into her personal space without disdain.Unfortunately, there were only coins—copper and silver. She found no other items. Still, it was a windfall compared to having no coin at all. After about fifteen minutes of gathering loot, Fang Qing left the chamber expressionlessly.Outside, she found two passageways—left and right, identical and unmarked. Not knowing their differences, she chose left at random and continued exploring. The corridor was deserted, which pleased Fang Qing. She opened each door she passed, looted the room’s contents into her personal space—anything of value—until her space neared full.Contracted Members’ personal space size depended on privilege level. As Lv1, hers held just one cubic meter, easily filled.Seeing her space nearly full, she stopped looting and focused on exploration. So far, she’d seen no corpses or signs of battle along this corridor. This struck her as odd; based on the Wugou Alliance members’ words, the main force should have entered here. She began to speculate where they had gone when…Boom!A tremendous noise ahead snapped her from thought. She concealed herself and ran forward. What she saw was a group of white-robed, armed men furiously chasing a man and a young woman. The man wore a Daoist robe, carrying the woman in one arm as he ran, his other hand wielding a duster fan. Each wave of the fan sent emerald ripples at the pursuers—swift as wind—but a figure at the front held them at bay.He, too, wore white robes, but with intricate patterns, indicating higher status. Black yin energy swirled around him, exuding a grim aura. With one hand held out, he manipulated the yin energy to block all the Daoist’s attacks, preventing any approach. After halting the Daoist’s assault, he opened his mouth and shouted, “Fengcao, you cannot escape! I have sealed every route. Even if you possess heavenly power, you cannot flee this fate!”
