Homestead Survival

138: Aestas de Labore 2

<23 September 2024, GRAND MESA OF SUMMER, A+> [Theo and Julia] Julia nodded, "I think that will work."

Theo nodded. They had spent the last few minutes debating what to prompt the ring for and finally settled on a question. Theo looked down at the ring on his hand, "I wish to speak with someone who has skill in elevating the personal Mana Density of individuals, and in controlling area mana densities in a home."

They waited, first five minutes, and then ten. Finally, a blue circle grew on the ground in front of them, blossoming into the complex rune circle from before. Julia noticed once again that the runes were each comprised of smaller runes, which were each comprised of smaller runes. They were almost fractal from what she could see. She wondered if she could achieve a similar effect. Suddenly, the space inside the circle became a pitch black liquid, and an outline rose from it. Then the fluid drained down to the pool from which the entity had risen.

>Local Message: Soul ID#00Agp5 has agreed to speak to you for twenty minutes. Time starts now.

The dark fluid started draining away, and they were left looking at the outline of an older male elf. The pointed ears were under small horns that were reminiscent of the horns that the dragons in human form had, but the skin and hair were too perfect. The man looked relaxed.

"Hello, I am Ur-Gin. I was known as the saint of lost souls to my people, and I specialized in ensuring the survival of those who needed to travel through, or live in, high mana densities. As an effect of helping those who needed it, I came to understand the processes and requirements for leveling a personal Mana Density quite well. I understand that you have some questions for me, and I will do my best to help you understand what you need to. Please ask away." Ur-Gin said with an almost serene attitude.

"Thank you, Ur-Gin," Theo said, "I am Theo Sorrin, and this is Julia Sorrin. We are attempting to build our home, but the others that we have here are being protected by Mana Overpressure Resistance Bands and have only a couple of weeks left."

Julia nodded and continued, "We have the blueprints for a Mana Condenser that we intend to build, but we are unsure of where to build them, how to ensure that they provide the best results, and what we actually need to do so that the people who need it can grow quickly."

Ur-Gin nodded, "These are excellent concerns, but it does seem that you are on the right path. As to your question, the best way to get anyone to increase their Personal Mana Density is to maximize their exposure to the desired Mana density as much as possible. Or higher Mana Densities. Once you ensure that they are protected, get them to eat and drink things that are as high a mana density as they can stomach."

"Next, we should discuss..." Ur-Gin continued, lecturing as if he were in a classroom, talking almost nonstop in a rapid, but understandable tone for fifteen straight minutes. "... I believe that should cover all the topics you were looking to speak about. Five minutes are remaining. Do you have any other questions?"

Theo and Julia shook their heads. Theo spoke up, "No, sir, you have given us a lot to think about. We can figure out our other issues."

Ur-Gin made a gesture, "Please, what is your most pressing issue? Benefit from my long, long life."

Julia gave him a quick overview of their situation. He seemed to focus on the fact that Sarah had befriended a Dungeon Core. Ur-Gin nodded after Julia explained what they had gathered from everyone about the Dungeon Core. "If you can speak to a specific soul with whatever called me to you, you should attempt to speak to a woman named Ha-Rama. She will be able to provide you with some unique insight into what might be possible options for the child."

Theo nodded, "Thank you, Ur-Gin. Is there anything that you would ask of us?"

Ur-Gin looked thoughtful and then sad. "My people perished, how and why are not important, but I would ask one thing of you. Learn what you can of the Garashani People and make a small place of remembrance for them. That would be more than enough."

Theo and Julia nodded. Julia spoke, "We will attempt to do this. Is there anything else?"

"No, that is more than I should have asked of." Ur-Gin said, "I hope that I have helped you in a way that matters. Goodbye, Theo and Julia Sorrin, I doubt we will meet again."

With that, Ur-Gin bowed to them and then dissolved into black liquid on the ground, and the blue circle of runes faded from reality. Theo took a breath, "Well, add that to the list, we need to speak to Ha-Rama, and learn about the Garashani."

Julia nodded, "Always more to do."

Theo nodded and began to plan how to implement what they had learned. What their needs boiled down to was an enclosed area that they could build the Mana Condensers into. Ur-Gin had suggested building them into the wall between two rooms, so that one could have a lower density and the other could have a higher density. It did seem that there was not a linear progression. Assuming that the rooms were all of equal size, you could lower the mana level of anywhere from five to fifteen rooms, with the excess mana being dumped into another room before there was an increase in mana density.

"Can we make them movable?" Julia asked, thinking of the problem as well.

Theo looked at the Blueprint, which included a lot of rune work, and seemed to be set into the wall of the room that needed to have its mana condensed. He looked at the image that showed the Atheric Glass with a Mana-bound disc set into the middle of the glass. The Mana Charged Fibers were worked into some of the runes that crossed from one material to the other, apparently working as some kind of bridge.

The Stone Fragments formed a square around the Mana Bound Disc, and one was set into a groove in the side of the glass. The whole pane of glass was then coated in a fine dust of Crystalized Mana and then set into a window frame. You could adjust the effort that the Mana Condenser puts in by adjusting the stone shard and the runes carved into it, up or down the groove.

From what he was seeing, the whole thing would break if you attempted to remove it from the wall.

"What if we just built some partitions that we could slip into doorframes or other places?" Theo said, picturing the modular walls of a cubical farm. "Do it out of wood with a stone frame for mounting?"

Julia picked up the Blueprint and studied the rune work. "I... I think it might work?"

"Let's ask Kreldar and Ordus, see if they have any suggestions," Theo said.

Julia nodded, and they headed out to find their two friends.
