Chapter 56: Scepter Liberation 【Paradox Spindle】
The burning sword edge pierced into the agate-like ribs on Jason's chest, holy fire and asphalt words colliding violently.
The fourth rune emerged in the deflagration, and Lawrence's irises began to bleed—overuse of the scepter was depriving him of his vision.
“Witness... truth!”
Jason's body suddenly expanded, and the ceiling cracked under the metallic proliferation.
Just then, Mel emerged from The Void again.
The hunter raised 【The New Moon】 high, offering the hunt to the great deity.
“Pfft!”
The crescent-like blade pierced into Jason's right shoulder.
The moment the fifth rune lit up on his right shoulder, the domain trembled like the tolling of a bell, and the glowing runes suddenly transformed into chains, forcefully severing the connection between Jason and the asphalt words of the crown on his head.
“Now!”
Hyde let out a furious roar.
Vilnia's shadow tentacles erupted from the cracks in the ground, entangling the ankles where the runes had appeared.
Jason tried to shatter the shadows, but found his control over his mystical arts was dissipating —the five-second vacuum caused by the soul tremor had created a fatal crack in the false crown.
Mel tightened her grip on the hilt, her right arm pushing upwards with force.
The blade embedded in the flesh traveled upwards along the young woman's arm, cutting down all obstacles in its path and offering them as a sacrifice to the Red Moon.
Whether it was white bone or flesh and blood, or those hideous tentacles.
The moment the crown shattered, countless words from ancient texts spewed from Jason's seven orifices, and his metal body began to collapse like a melting wax figure.
“You... have only delayed...”
Jason's mask shattered, revealing a semi-metallized skull, asphalt words boiling in his eye sockets.
“Truth will ultimately”
Hyde's silver bullet shot into his open mouth, interrupting the final curse.
A rain of words suddenly fell in the basement, the symbols carrying forbidden knowledge self-combusting into ash before they hit the ground.
Lawrence fell to his knees, the sword-cane in his hand now covered in cracks.
“Three minutes...”
He fumbled, trying to get up, “The domain is about to disappear...”
“It's okay, we've already succeeded.”
Hyde patted his companion's shoulder, then placed his weapons in his arms.
“Look after them for me—leave the rest to me now.”
As he spoke, Hyde turned around, not looking at the corpse on the ground, but walking straight towards the altar where the twelve skulls were placed.
The guardian was dead.
What needed to be done next was to destroy the ritual.
And for a Shepherd of Chaos, such a thing couldn't be easier.
Almost all rituals themselves rely on rules and have their own system of procedures.
And what Shepherds of Chaos are best at is destroying this set of procedures, turning a carefully choreographed performance into an impromptu farce.
Hyde raised his hand, and a scepter slowly materialized in his grasp.
This was a scepter that was pitch-black all over, its surface covered with irregular cracks, as if it had been shattered and reassembled countless times.
At the top of the scepter was an irregular dodecahedron, emitting an irregular purplish-black halo.
The light did not spread evenly, but rather seemed to have been crushed by an invisible hand, presenting a mottled and fragmented form.
“Chaos bears witness.”
Hyde whispered softly, and the dodecahedron at the top of the scepter began to rotate irregularly.
Each face refracted a different light and shadow, yet they interfered with each other, making the light in the entire altar area chaotic.
—Scepter Liberation 【Paradox Spindle】!
The candlelight no longer simply collapsed inward, but turned into countless tiny flames dancing wildly in the air, like a swarm of butterflies torn apart by a fierce wind.
“Crack—creak—rumble—”
The moment the scepter touched the ground, it produced a series of dissonant sounds.
The sounds overlapped yet canceled each other out, forming a strange acoustic chaos in the basement.
The shrieks of the twelve skulls also became fragmented, high and low pitches interweaving, like an out-of-control symphony.
The runes of truth on the altar began to twist and deform:
They did not simply disappear, but intertwined and reorganized with each other, forming new, meaningless symbols.
Some runes even began to infect the surrounding space, causing irregular ripples to appear on the walls and floor.
The skulls placed on the altar began to vibrate.
The runes on their surfaces emitted a piercing red light, trying to resist the impending annihilation.
Hyde sneered and slammed the scepter in his hand down hard.
The dodecahedron at the top of the scepter suddenly burst forth with millions of colors—
Those were not colors from the normal spectrum, but more like madness spilled onto an abstract canvas.
Deep purple and orange-red intertwined into screaming patterns, indigo and fluorescent green rampaged through the space.
The bronze candlesticks on the altar began to twist, the candle tears turning into writhing fluorescent slugs, crawling up the stone pillars in the path of a Möbius strip.
“Thud—”
The sound of the scepter striking the ground was like shattering a thousand mirrors.
The twelve skulls opened their jaws at the same time, but emitted completely different tones, and the runes of truth carved on the edge of the altar began to rearrange themselves in disarray:
The character for "immortality" grew centipede legs and crawled towards "destruction", "truth" suddenly split into pictographs that bit at each other.
Vilnia saw the shadow at her feet suddenly blossom, fragments of her childhood memories appearing on the black petals, while the scene of Jason being slain was playing out in the flower's pistil.
“Don't look!”
Lawrence warned.
【The New Moon】 in Mel's hand trembled violently, and when she tried to grasp the hilt, countless absurd images flooded her mind: She saw Lawrence eating his own eyeballs, Hyde's head turning into a spinning nebula, Vilnia's shadow wrapping her in a cocoon....
The entire basement was experiencing a conceptual-level diarrhea—
Asphalt smelling of strawberries seeped from the cracks between the stone bricks, and the cobwebs hanging from the ceiling suddenly began to perform plays from the last century.
Lawrence tried to support himself with his broken sword-cane, only to find that talking moss had grown on the hilt and was reciting a sonnet in his voice.
“Are you done yet, Hyde!”
Lawrence urged anxiously.
“Almost, just a little bit more....”
Hyde's right eye turned into a glass sphere that constantly refracted light, and the five fingers of his left hand were disintegrating into colored chalk.
“Just the last bit....”
He suddenly thrust the scepter into his own heart.
In the chaotic explosion of light, the twelve mutated skulls simultaneously exploded into fireworks.
The marble slab on the altar curled into the shape of a Klein bottle, and the fleeing runes of truth were dyed with comical clown makeup.
When Hyde pulled out the scepter, what spewed from his chest was not blood, but rainbow-colored ink that filled the entire space.
“At this moment—”
Hyde's hoarse and crazed laughter came through the rain of ink.
“Great beauty is coming!”
The stones of the altar began to move on their own, some floating in the air, others sinking deep into the ground.
The originally orderly patterns were completely disrupted, yet presented a strange kind of beauty in the chaos.
It was a beauty completely different from order, it was the wildness and freedom of Chaos itself.
When the final wave of energy erupted, the entire altar did not simply collapse, but turned into countless fragments of varying sizes, forming a constantly changing kaleidoscope pattern in the air.
Hyde's scepter slowly lowered, but the chaotic energy in the basement continued to surge.
The runes that once represented truth and order had now all become a part of chaos, dancing freely in the space, creating countless new possibilities.
This was not destruction, but a magnificent transmutation.
It was the carnival of order turning to chaos.
It was also a tribute from rules to freedom.
