Bai Ping was about to say something when his phone rang.
The child-looking Liu Wei glanced at the phone briefly before focusing on his reading.
Bai Ping noticed his reaction and merely smiled, taking out his phone and answered the call.
The voice on the other side of the phone echoed in the quiet library, causing the child-looking Liu Wei to feel familiar with the owner of the voice.
He tried to listen but the voice was inaudible since it was not on the speaker mode.
He fell into deep thought.
Strange… Why do I feel like it has been many months since I've last heard from him.
It was just a week ago I received a scolding from him.
Bai Ping did not walk away from Liu Wei since he was aware that the voice of the phone was not enough to reach him.
Their call was brief anyway.
"Yes, Master."
He shoved his phone to his pocket afterward and faced the Young Master, who was reading his books.
He smiled and said, "I have to leave you, Young Master. Master called me to the living room."
The child-looking Liu Wei merely shrugged and did not bother replying.
Bai Ping smiled and walked away, leaving the child-looking Liu Wei alone in the library…
…
The child-looking Liu Wei was unable to read after Bai Ping left.
After all, something bothered him… something doesn't feel right.
Something was telling him he must stop reading and should do something…
Something like that had already happened in the past and must reoccur since he was currently living on that timeline.
Liu Wei tried his best to ignore it, but the more he did it, the more it was unbearable to the point his body suddenly stood up on his own.
He frowned and gazed at the door.
"It's so strange. I don't have a choice but to follow it."
That was then he recalled he still had many topics to talk about with Bai Ping.
However, he was displeased that Bai Ping really had to leave him.
He sighed.
"I can't blame him. Father called for him and he could not ignore it."
Suddenly, he had an idea of disturbing Bai Ping in his Father's room.
Despite having a strict parent, who would always beat him until it left a deep scar in his psyche, Liu Wei became even more problematic, causing his parents to finally give up in thinking of changing him through physical abuse.
Hence, Liu Wei believed he could get away if he disturbed his Father by taking Bai Ping away from him briefly.
Even if he would get scolded and beat up… he doesn't care.
He wanted to share what he dreamt so badly with Bai Ping.
There were also lots of topics he learned from the book he wanted to talk about with Bai Ping, too.
After all, the talk with someone of what you read has an addicting, relishing feeling that Liu Wei always loved to feel every time he finished reading a book.
He treated it as his reward for acquiring knowledge that took quite a lot of mental energy and time.
Now that he had convinced himself of what to do, he immediately forgot of the strange feeling he had earlier that forced him to stop reading the books and left the door, running towards where Bai Ping and his Father was…
…
Earlier, as Bai Ping arrived in front of his Master's door, he knocked and said, "Master, I have arrived."
The door suddenly opened and Bai Ping was quite stunned that his Master's personal butler opened the door for him.
Usually, the Master's butler was absent due to the workload the Master has given him.
Investigations, assassination, business-related… all sorts of jobs that made him a jack of all trades.
He was not a master of none… he was simply the most idealistic butler that any wealthy person wanted to have.
The Master's butler stepped aside, leaving a space for him to finally see the Master, sitting in his room that appeared to be an office.
The room was neat, organized, despite many papers appearing on the table.
The Master was busy writing something on the paper.
Bai Ping tried his best to be as quiet as he could, closing the door, standing on the other side of the door with the Master's butler.
Standing in silence, he peeked at him and saw he was taller, bulkier, and scarier than him due to the scars scattered around his face and neck.
Even on his bald head, there was a scar of what seemed to be a bullet graze.
Bai Ping could only admire and feel terrified of the Master's butler.
After a while of standing in silence, keeping his gaze at his Master, the latter finally tilted his head upward.
He finally finished signing all the stack of papers beside him.
He gazed at Bai Ping, and the latter was shaken.
Something is wrong…
He thought, causing a shiver running down his spine.
His Master asked, "Bai Ping, is Liu Wei still in the library?"
Bai Ping felt his throat dry, so he wet it with saliva by swallowing some from his tongue, and replied, "It has been two days, Master."
His Master's face changed slightly but it quickly returned to normal.
He asked, "Did his friends contact him?"
Bai Ping wanted to lie to prevent the poor child from beating up and getting scolded again, but he instinctively replied honestly.
"No."
His Master leaned back on his chair and turned it around, gazing through the window behind him.
The view outside was admirable, appearing to convey they were inside the sky scraper.
They could see the vast sky with clouds almost at them, and the expansive city below.
His Master was quiet for a while, but in the tense silence, Bai Ping was shivering in fear.
His Master suddenly said, "Do you know why he refused to socialize with others?"
Bai Ping knew it was a rhetorical question.
But, he still replied, "Why, Master?"
His Master instantly replied, "Because of you."
