Back at the base, I expect a whole reaction from Kaine, especially when a big shadow passes over the house, produced by a giant flying serpent.
"Tell me what your intentions with this land are and I... yaawwwnn... I will try to come up with a plan as soon as possible."
He barely reacts to the creature. Karina and I are stunned by how little he cares that such a big monster passes by us like nothing. Maybe he doesn't care that much, or he is so asleep while walking that he has lost all capacity for awareness.
I mean, what good is a base in the middle of the most dangerous part of the whole world if there is no reaction to it? I do want people to react in awe when they see my base and where it is placed! Especially when it grows.
"First... eeehh..." I try to recollect what the hell I am doing. "I want to build a nice base here. I need a house for at least 20 people. What can you do with 50k?"
That is half of what I have. I used too much in wands and scrolls, and I need to use the rest in books to replenish my spells.
He stops, looks at the house, then the rest of the land.
"Yeah... I can do something with that amount." He admits, scratching one of his wolf ears. "Just let me set myself up."
He gets in close to the house, takes out a portable awning, and sets it straight.
"Oh, he must be setting up a space to start planning." Karina comments, paying close attention to him.
"Well, he is an S+ builder... he must be..."
Then he pulls out a desk and a hammock... a fucking hammock
And he goes to sleep there.
"What the...! H-hey, you lazy mutt!" Karina screams, pouting. No one can hear her, obviously.
I approach, frustrated.
He is already snoring with a book on top of his head.
"E-excuse me.." I approached, avoiding sounding aggressive. "Uummm... do you need any more pointers?"
"... huh?" It takes him a few seconds to answer. "No... I am working... let me for a few hours... I need to come up with blueprint...zzzzzzzz"
He falls asleep again... I am paying 50k for this.
"Ugh... I hope he is a genius with superb skill that just happens to be extremely sleepy..." Karina comments.
"I hope the same."
My dreams of a castle are slowly drowning in front of me...
Not long after, I decided to take a small snack right when Felicia returns. Keith was serving me some fruit juice he made with the fruits we have been collecting.
[You obtained some Magic potential!
You gained 300 Magic Experience!]
Just eating... It feels like cheating.
Only 1000 for a level up. I cannot tell how much I need for Bloodless, but at least I know I will have easier access to XP points without the need to continue eating.
Felicia returns, entering the house with a smile and a bag of goods.
"Ah! Master is back!" She says. I love how she says it with glee! "I brought what you asked for and more... But where can we put it?"
"We will need to make space around." We have too many people living in this small structure. I just hope the wolf guy outside gets the job done soon.
"I noticed someone sleeping outside," Felicia says.
"Oh, yeah... That is the person who is going to build the rest of the base. Don't ask, I don't have answers."
"So, are you a dungeon crawler, Master?" Keith asks.
"Huh? Yep, I am." The question caught me by surprise. "Although I haven't done much dungeon crawling lately. Too much has been happening. I am just taking a free day."
"Then take a moment to relax! Ask us for anything!" Felicia says.
"Anything?"
"I swear, if you try anything with that poor innocent girl..." Karina reminds me she is there.
I just give her a mean look and then return to my own stuff.
I take the rest of the day to read books and recover my charges. Soon, I will have to start gathering resources and making money. I don't have a steady income, and my wallet is not infinite.
With everything that has happened since my arrival, I am impressed with myself for not succumbing. I guess I had people at my side this whole time. People who will have my back when I need it.
At around night, Aurelia returns, bored and annoyed because all she did was move around town following Leiva while she investigated.
"Ugh... I was sooooo bored!" She complains.
"Sorry, but for my work I need to continue researching in books for several hours," Leiva explains.
"Did you two have any problems?" I ask while still sitting.
"Besides the fact that she insisted on going through the town in her beast, no, not really," Leiva answers.
"Hey! I have to get him used to moving around towns and behaving, don't I?"
"Did you seriously drive that big creature through the city?" I did miss the fact that it was not here when I arrived. "Please tell me it did not cause problems..."
"I can testify that no, people were afraid, but the dragon caused no damage. But, next time you make it fly, Aurelia, warn me."
"Why would I cause problems? It's not like I am constantly doing something stupid!"
"Yes, yes, you are," I answer.
"Boooring..."
"Look, we need a day to rest. I will be starting to explore Cemillas tomorrow, and I need to recover." I close the final book. "So I am thankful nothing else happened today."
"Ugh... Okay, I get it. We crossed paths with Lisa. She was helping around town, using her magic to heal people."
"Good. That will give us a good reputation around town. Or at least to her. Did you find something, Leiva?"
"Not yet... But I think I am onto something! Some old books talk about stones with powers. If only our friend was awake..." She looks at the still unconscious Jace.
"Well, thanks, Leiva. I appreciate it. I will take Aurelia tomorrow."
With all of this, all I can do now is wait for things to develop in the base. Tomorrow I will check Cemillas for the first time.
