Wasteland Development Diary

Chapter 140: Rushing to the Ruins

On Yalong Bay Pier, Qin Xie and the teddy bear had already disembarked from the black iron ship.

Zhou Yi also flew over on the Hunter to meet them.

From the sky,

the iron ship was slender overall, shaped like a willow leaf.

No one was on the ship, there was only a small, oval-shaped cabin, also painted black. The entire ship looked low-key and ordinary, without any cannons fitted on the exterior.

It seemed like a ship that pursued speed and agility.

"This place is really nice, it looks very tranquil."

Qin Xie looked around, especially towards the four dockyards in Yalong Bay, showing a hint of surprise on his face, "Wasn't 'Moon Teeth' previously in its full form? It's actually grown another mouth..."

He didn't continue to inquire but focused on the main goal, "Mr. Zhou, we are ready, whenever you are free is fine. If possible, it would be best to depart within a fortnight, because after that time period, the Eastern Sea will enter a phase of strong rapids cycles again."

Zhou Yi nodded, "Then let's depart now, just give me a moment."

"Alright."

Following that, Zhou Yi made a series of arrangements.

He temporarily handed over various company matters to Gong Zheng. His greatest advantage was his steadiness, he wouldn't make unnecessary moves, and he had done well before.

The Saint Petersburg and Sea God provided underwater escort, the samurai crabs were on standby inside the submarine, and Lie Hai escorted from high above.

The Jade City Mech crossed over Maria Hospital and arrived at the ridge behind Yalong Bay.

The two monumental structures completed their docking.

Next, Yalong Bay began to slowly detach from the land.

Qin Xie and the teddy bear on the pier were then taken into Jade City by Zhou Yi.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, Qin Xie looked back at the receding land and couldn't help but exclaim, "If one could use Dead Sea Aliens as efficiently as your company, it would indeed be just like having a formidable army..."

The teddy bear suddenly asked by the window, "Does Jade City have a twin brother?"

It pointed to the distance.

That was Building No. 5 patrolling alongside Jade Avenue.

Zhou Yi said, "That is the second generation of Jade City, we call it Building No. 5. Unlike the original Building A here with me, its personality is more active and dynamic, so it's been assigned to patrol. Despite its large size, it's very gentle with the local life, attending to vehicle breakdowns and accidents, a real Samaritan."

The only problem, according to Zhou Yi, was that sometimes it thought the Guangna Species from the Dead Sea were getting too close to the dam, so it would throw missiles at them.

Many residents enjoyed watching it fiercely attack the Guangna Species in the sea, but this overly aggressive combat style sometimes gave Zhou Yi headaches.

"It's actually so large, completely different from the baby Alien rumors."

Qin Xie observed carefully, "The Wasteland Development Company has quite a few Aliens, truly a professional organization in this field."

"We are still exploring," Zhou Yi shifted the topic, "Captain Qin, should the report from before be fine now?"

"Yes, it passed."

The other side seemed relaxed, "If the report hadn't been approved, I wouldn't have been able to take leave. I'm not going to the Forbidden Weapon Relics as a representative of the Seventh Fleet, but on a personal basis. Apart from necessary missions, I don't really like to travel with the fleet. Just writing the itinerary report gives me a headache, and then there's the endless comments from the superiors... This is much more relaxing and simple."

Zhou Yi walked towards the side shelf, "What would you like?"

"Anything is fine."

Zhou Yi tossed him a can of cola.

He held up the can, pulled the ring, and took a sip, "Thanks."

Then, the two sat in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking at the Dead Sea scenery, and began discussing the matter of the Forbidden Weapon Relics.

Qin Xie took out a tool resembling a pocket watch.

It had a mosaic electronic screen with low resolution, but it displayed the direction in which they should go.

"This is a navigation compass given by Star Axis, it's marked with our destination."

Qin Xie placed it on the table, "If we follow it, we can find the area where the Forbidden Weapon Relics are."

Zhou Yi thought to himself,

This seems to be a satellite positioning device.

He immediately had a doubt, "With the strong capabilities of Star Axis, why seek the Flying Star through Knight Orders rather than their own people?"

Qin Xie took another sip of cola, "Of course, because the Star Core Electors are too valuable to risk on dangerous missions readily. Star Axis generally offers bounties for external missions, all of which have high risks and rewards."

"Also knowing the risks, those Bounty Knights previously were restrained and did not proceed further."

He smiled and said, "This is just a trade, a matter of mutual consent.

"Star Axis holds certain special proprietary technologies, which are very attractive... An anonymous insider mentioned if we can finish the ultimate Flying Star location and get it flying again, we might receive a 'Star Core Light Seal'."

Zhou Yi was somewhat surprised, "A proprietary Light Imprint Series of Star Axis?"

"That's right."

Qin Xie continued earnestly, "Following the current mainstream divide, Light Imprints generally come down to Mechanical-Electrical Light Imprints made by Mechanical City and the Craftsmen Light Seals created by humans in imitation of the former."

"The strength of Mechanical-Electrical Light Imprints is undeniable, possessing extremely high technical prowess, whether it's precision or stability, they are very outstanding. They are the leaders in Light Imprint Skill."

"Craftsmen Light Seals win on affordability, they can be mass-produced and sold, making them accessible to more people. The majority of Professionals' enhanced bodies use Craftsmen Light Seals."

He spread his hands, "Our biggest human advantage is a pair of tool-making hands, so even though we're physically frail and short-lived, we remain the dominant population for Sea Lords to acquire fervently. Just like humans, Craftsmen Light Seals have many flaws, but their simple merits are enough to carve out a niche for themselves."

"The Star Core Light Imprint is far less numerous than the previous two," Zhou Yi said. "I'm not a professional in the field of Light Imprints, but I do know that the Star Core Light Imprint is a product forged beyond the stars by the Flying Star, unable to be cloned on the ground. If you try to decipher its Light Imprint, it will self-destruct... It's a technology that is difficult to replicate and can be owned or implanted by only one life."

It sounded like some sort of encryption technology.

Zhou Yi then asked, "How is the Star Core Light Imprint different from the other two?"

"Let me give you an example... The most common Star Core Light Imprint is 'elector.'"

Qin Xie paused, "Once it is implanted in the owner's body, it forms a connection, obtaining official recognition from the Star Core, and becomes a Star Core Elector. When necessary, it can summon the Star Core to help the owner ascend to the Flying Star."

Zhou Yi understood immediately.

This was Star Core's green card.

In times of crisis, it could whisk you up to the heavens, indeed a treasure beyond measure.

He remembered that Ji Zhang and the craftsmen he accompanied had entered the snow mountain to work for Star Core, fiddling with strange parts in the basement. It seemed they must have had a similar experience to be granted the status of Star Core Elector.

Zhou Yi said, "Do you want this too?"

"I do."

The other party was candid, "It can save your life at a critical moment; it's truly useful. However, how many Light Imprints will be given, and whether they will be 'electors' or not, I don't know... But I want to try it, because without trying, there's no chance at all."

Zhou Yi immediately expressed, "If it works out, you can have the Light Imprint, but you'll have to pay for it."

The other party was astonished, "You don't want it?"

"I'm not interested."

"Such spirit."

The other party raised a thumb, "Then it's a deal. When the time comes, you set the price, and I'll raise the money."

"No problem."

Zhou Yi thought to himself.

Getting hold of this thing meant being located by Star Core, which was actually not favorable for him.

Better to trade it for some solid Light Seed currency.

He had come to recruit construction life, and he was not on the same track as the others.

Predicting the profit-sharing with Qin Xie—whether it worked out was another matter, but this way, both sides had an idea of what to expect.

With a reliable compass to guide the way, Yalong Bay, pushed by the Sheng Snakes, headed eastward. Along the way, they encountered some rapids and even strayed into a high-pressure area, but Yalong Bay adjusted in time to detour and avoid such hazards.

It was smooth sailing all the way.

Because the journey was long, Qin Xie proposed playing table tennis again. He brought equipment from his own ship, set up a table, and placed it on the beach of Yalong Bay.

The result was without question.

Zhou Yi easily crushed him again.

Normal people subjected to such frequent defeats would gradually lose interest and confidence.

But Qin Xie remained undaunted, seeking advice and striving to improve his skills.

In the Wasteland Era, Zhou Yi was even moved by someone's obsession with table tennis from the old times.

He shared his knowledge generously.

Every day Qin Xie practiced pushing the ball rigorously. Although Zhou Yi thrashed him and left him running all over to retrieve balls, he still persisted with determination and steady steps.

Zhou Yi exclaimed, "You really like this sport a lot, huh?"

"Of course, I like it."

Qin Xie showed a hearty smile, fanning himself with the paddle, "Playing a good game of table tennis with a boss is easier for promotion than having strong work abilities. Many high-ranking members and old-timers of both Dead Sea Knights and Mechanical Knights enjoy a few rounds in their free time. If your skill isn't up to par, it's tough to play to their level; it's very technique-dependent."

"This is a matter crucial for my career, I have to practice diligently! Can't slack off!"

Damn!

Turns out it was about leveraging sports public relations for advancement.

Not a bit of competitive spirit!

Zhou Yi could only intensify his game further, mercilessly crushing the lad with a variety of aggressive forehand and backhand strokes.

Qin Xie, however, seemed to enjoy it.

After a continuous ten-day sea voyage across the Dead Sea, they finally saw scattered small Floating Islands ahead. They were interconnected, surrounding the high mountain rising from the Dead Sea, forming a stable archipelago.

The main body of the archipelago was the principal island where the central high mountain was situated.

Strangely, there were no ships to be seen around, eerily quiet.

Yalong Bay slowly docked, connecting with the Land.

Zhou Yi turned his head towards Qin Xie, "What's happening? Is no one here? Or has the Flying Star been found and sent away?"

"It's not that no one has come."

Qin Xie smiled with a touch of helplessness, "It's because your Yalong Bay made such a grand entrance on the way here that everyone else detoured to dock elsewhere, no one wants to mess with a Dead Sea Alien."

Zhou Yi borrowed the binoculars offered to him and took a look.

Indeed.

Several ships were at the far end of both sides of the bay, hidden in areas protected by rocky mountains, and people there were also using binoculars to look this way.

Since they had already come all this way, they might as well go ashore.

Jade City switched to movement mode, left Yalong Bay, and entered the main island.
