Wasteland Development Diary

Chapter 180: Are You a God?

The Kobold was poked and prodded until it ran madly around the room, dodging aimlessly. However, the entire room was constructed of gemstones, so gemstone fibers were omnipresent. Sometimes it would pass out from the pain, but other times it would become overwhelmingly excited.

Zhou Yi gradually figured out some tricks to the trade.

Gemstone fibers were a peculiar tool that could connect other creatures to the bodies of the Heavenly People.

Different colored gemstones possessed different powers.

So far, Zhou Yi had discovered White, Blue, and Black Gemstones.

White Gemstone was used for surgery and modifications; it could stimulate various parts of the Kobold's body and imprint the Light Imprint.

From an overhead perspective, he could see through the Kobold's body. When he got close, the areas for imprinting would illuminate with a green light, making them easy to identify.

While operating this process, Zhou Yi felt as though he were holding a soldering iron, working on electrical repairs by melting resin.

As the gemstones continuously melted into the Kobold's body through the fibers, the imprints were gradually perfected.

This process felt like an innate instinct of this body, as natural as the human need to eat and drink.

However, the imprints themselves could not be precisely controlled.

Once the gemstone fibers entered the body, they would spontaneously expand, looking more like a chemical reaction between the gems and the Kobold's body.

Zhou Yi's first Light Imprint was etched on the Kobold's right leg.

Though called an imprint, it was actually a flexible three-dimensional structure made of numerous dots and lines.

It was only after Zhou Yi touched it with the gemstone fiber that he realized this Light Imprint could aid the Kobold in acceleration and deceleration, and he essentially confirmed it was for "propulsion".

After the implantation of the Light Imprint, the Kobold ran around the Gem Room, increasing its speed, which made it perk up its ears and stick out its tongue in great enjoyment.

Zhou Yi then found another Blue Gemstone.

He stabbed the Blue Gemstone fiber into the Kobold's shoulder, causing its entire body to stiffen.

During this process, blue light continuously surged from the fibers into the Kobold's body.

The Kobold grew increasingly warm and shivered non-stop.

The color of the Blue Gemstone faded quickly until it finally turned completely into a White Gemstone.

From this, Zhou Yi learned that these two gemstones could be transformed into each other.

Blue Gemstones contained a special energy.

The gemstone-energized Kobold had glowing eyes and steam rising from its head, but it had a visibly vigorous aura.

The last was the Black Gemstone.

Zhou Yi stabbed the Kobold with a Black Gemstone fiber, and this time he could clearly see a complex black line structure inside the creature—this was the form of consciousness under the influence of the gemstone.

Black Gemstone could act as a bridge for consciousness communication.

Zhou Yi asked, "What is your name?"

"I don't know."

The Kobold answered blankly, "You made my legs able to run with incredible speed and gave me tremendous strength, are you a god?"

Rather than becoming a god to the Kobold, Zhou Yi was more interested in its own circumstances.

Regrettably, the Kobold knew very little. It had memories of living there from a very young age, and then day after day, it stayed within that Gem Room.

The Kobold never felt hungry because the surrounding gemstones provided energy; it found nothing undesirable about the place.

Unlike Li Mo, the Kobold was more content with the status quo and could better tolerate pain and solitude.

Zhou Yi soon discovered that the Black Gemstone had another use; it could strip the fibers and form specific connections inside an enhanced body. It was also the essence of the Stress Source.

He could clearly sense that upon making such a connection, he could deploy the connected target (Sky Dog) to roam in the Wasteland World.

After figuring out the basic mechanism, Zhou Yi turned his attention back to the Kobold.

It was time for his favorite part: the naming ceremony.

"Your name is Sky Dog."

"So my name is Sky Dog!"

The Kobold's eyes instantly shone with light.

He chose this name because the story of the Sky Dog swallowing the moon came to mind, but after the naming, he found it somewhat strange.

Sky Dog, the dog of the Heavenly People... Well, never mind such trifles.

Now he needed to train it to become a Kobold warrior capable of consuming the moon!

"Sky Dog, I now assign you a glorious task. A war is about to break out soon, and I will send you to fight, to confront the evil invaders and defend order and peace."

"Glorious! Battle!"

The Kobold immediately became excited, howling with a resounding "awoo, awoo".

From this, it seemed that it too had the soul of a warrior.

Zhou Yi said, "So I will give you special training; I will forge you into a true warrior, an invincible guard!"

"Special training, special training, Sky Dog desires training."

The Kobold's monotonous life was suddenly rocked by huge waves, visibly stimulating the creature. It puffed out its chest and perked up its ears, standing tall and proud.

"Now I'm going to implant more Light Imprints in you, replenishing your power, which will cause no small burden on you," Zhou Yi explained. "You must withstand the pressure and pain."

"I will withstand!" The Sky Dog said with its tongue hanging out.

Good.

Zhou Yi then began the second round of Light Imprint implantation.

This time, it was the left foot.

Both legs needed to be balanced.

Zhou Yi manipulated the White Gemstone to engrave the Light Imprint on the Sky Dog's left foot. Throughout the process, the Sky Dog yelped in pain, a stark contrast to its composure during the previous engraving.

"Pain... it's so painful, much more painful than last time, my whole body is in pain, God, I'm in so much pain!"

"You are a warrior," Zhou Yi reminded it. "A warrior must be able to endure pain."

"Endure!"

Despite clutching its head with both paws in agony, it still managed to steady itself.

As the number of Light Imprints increased, so did the physiological pressure they caused.

Zhou Yi was almost certain about the second Light Imprint after just one attempt.

"Body control."

The enhanced car he had purchased contained this same Light Imprint, which could improve the Kobold's body balance and control.

For the third Light Imprint, Zhou Yi chose the Sky Dog's eyes.

He had been reluctant to choose such seemingly delicate organs, but perhaps due to a talent issue, the Sky Dog's eyes were the only part left on its body still viable for imprinting.

So there was no choice.

However, as soon as the engraving began, the Sky Dog passed out, frothing at the mouth.

Zhou Yi remembered that Li Mo, in his memory, often passed out like this too. Modifying the body took a heavy toll on normal life forms.

But he was pressed for time and could be ejected from the consciousness realm at any moment.

He couldn't afford to wait for it to awaken naturally.

"Sky Dog, wake up!" Zhou Yi used the Blue Gemstone to infuse the Kobold with energy.

After the energy of two gemstones was infused, the Sky Dog finally sat up dazedly.

Zhou Yi resumed the Light Imprint engraving.

After five difficult attempts, he finally achieved the cumbersome Light Imprint implantation.

The Sky Dog's eyes could now emit red light, but when shone on the gemstone walls, it seemed to have no effect; its actual use was not yet apparent.

The Kobold started practicing its abilities incessantly.

Zhou Yi, on the other hand, fell into deep thought.

With the increase of Light Imprints, the engraving became more and more difficult. During the second one, numerous gemstone fibers had already snapped, necessitating rewriting of the Light Imprint.

The third time, when the whole structure was unfurled, it was stretched by the influence of other external Light Imprints, leading to uncontrollable deformations and even collapses.

To cultivate a body suitable for themselves, the Heavenly People had to invest considerable resources and time.

That the original owner of this body had managed to impart five Light Imprints on Li Mo showed exceptional skill.

The Kobold's limit was three Light Imprints.

It was uncertain if this was an individual or species difference.

It was now understandable why the original owner chose Li Mo over the Kobold.

Whether in terms of innate talent or intelligence, Li Mo was the better choice.

Eventually, Zhou Yi supplied many Blue Gemstones stored in the Gem Room for the Kobold to use as sustenance, allowing it to further refine itself.

"Special training, special training!"

"Glory! Fight!"

The Kobold roared as it continued to sprint along the corners of the walls, honing its abilities.

...

Zhou Yi returned to his room in Jade City.

The sense of dizziness in his brain was still intense, but no longer accompanied by the previous nausea.

He sat on the sofa, took a moment to relax, then opened a can of soda.

He had now grasped the basic function of the gemstones.

And as for whether the Sky Dog could be useful in winter combat, that remained to be seen.

For now, he would wait and see.
