Wasteland Development Diary

Chapter 82 Cave People_2

The idea of the apocalypse seems to be present in various civilizations; everyone harbors concerns about destruction.

Zhou Yi suddenly understood: "This is a description of that story."

"No, this is a portrayal."

Ni Ge insisted, "My great-great-grandfather witnessed a world being devoured by the Doomsday Beast with his own eyes."

"Witnessed with his own eyes? Was your great-great-grandfather... traveling in space?"

"Not at all."

Ni Ge explained, "My great-great-grandfather, named Ni Zi, was a very outstanding explorer. His companion plant mutated a very special ability, which allowed him to use Space Bubbles to see scenes and moments from other worlds. Let's call it 'Cross-border Peeping.'"

"In the past, many people who crossed through the Space Bubbles would seek out my grandfather to assess and observe, confirming whether there was any danger on the other side."

"It was in one such Space Bubble that he saw a world being devoured by the Doomsday Beast. That Space Bubble seemed to be outside of the world, a very magical place."

"When the Mud Tree People still lived on the Pan Tree, there were already tales of the Doomsday Beast. Legends say that the Doomsday Beast had a huge, thick neck, and a mouth capable of capturing worlds, and its body was enormous; all these details completely matched what my great-great-grandfather witnessed."

Zhou Yi became serious.

This seemed like important intelligence.

"Are there any more rumors about the Doomsday Beast?"

"Yes."

"In fact, the legend of the Doomsday Beast wasn't originally our own creation; it appeared on Mud Tablets in the Dead Sea."

Ni Ge said, "Before the Mud Tree People, there were other peoples in our world. They left very few traces, only some erected Mud Tablets and large caves in the Dead Sea; they once lived in the caves of this world."

Zhou Yi became interested, "Tell me more."

"Chairman, I'm not tired talking about this."

The Mud Tree People said excitedly, "Explorers all know about them. These people, we call them Cave People, because they lived deep beneath the Dead Sea."

"Many explorers entered the caves, trying to find traces of them, such as tools left behind, but no complete tools were found. The era they lived in was too long ago, causing many traces to disappear."

"Fortunately, the Mud Tablets were preserved, many of which are under the roots in the subterranean area. Our ancestors also drew inspiration from the Mud Tablets, starting to use mud and soil."

Ni Ge showed a nostalgic expression, "Cave People could be considered as ancestors of the Mud Tree People; we are their successors. Unfortunately, our successors turned out to be insects..."

Zhou Yi handed him a can of beer.

The Mud Tree People liked this, grabbing it and gulping it down, showing a satisfied expression, "The food and drinks here are really cool, completely different from what we have back home."

"Continue," Zhou Yi gestured.

"The only remnants left by the Cave People apart from those deep underground caves are the Mud Tablets."

Ni Ge said, "Early explorers went into the caves, trying to reach the bottom, guess what they found?"

"Unable to reach the bottom?"

"You could say that, but not because it was inaccessible, but because the cave was through-and-through. Braving explorers who perilously ventured deep into the cave would end up at the cave's other side to the world."

The Mud Tree People said mysteriously, "The Cave People had pierced through the world, like boring a hole through both ends of a fruit. They were such an enigmatic race."

Zhou Yi felt somewhat baffled, "Are you sure they bored through, and it's not some kind of technology linking both ends of the cave?"

"It was definitely boring."

Ni Ge confidently stated, "They mastered a very special type of 'Cave Energy'; different caves had different functions."

He pulled out a sketchbook from his backpack and started to draw on it with a charcoal pencil.

Although the painting style was as abstract as the usual Mud Tree style, it was highly recognizable.

On the paper, he drew an oval sphere with holes all over it, resembling swiss cheese.

These holes varied in size and were not completely connected to each other, resembling some kind of maze.

"This is generally it."

Ni Ge pointed at the drawing with a charcoal pencil and said, "Some of these holes trap people inside, making it impossible to escape. Many explorers have disappeared inside them."

"Some holes connect to other holes, acting like special passageways. Once you enter, you appear in another hole."

"There are also some holes filled with just ordinary water."

"The most important thing is, some of these holes contain energy blocks solid as solids."

"Solid energy?" Zhou Yi was surprised.

"Yes, just like the ice here, or crystal. The Dead Sea was solidified into that stuff, and the energy is so intense that just getting close causes explorers like me to suffer severe decay and mental blankness, almost like nearing death."

"So those things also can't be developed."

Ni Ge showed a somewhat melancholic expression: "If we could harness those, we wouldn't be afraid of the bugs. Unfortunately, we still haven't managed it."

Zhou Yi frowned upon hearing this: "It sounds like the Cave People have mastered a completely different technology from you. Didn't you mention Mud Tablets? Tell me about those."

"Apart from those holes, what's mostly preserved are the Mud Tablets."

The Mud Tree People explained: "The Mud Tablets record many images, and many complete ones depict scenes of the Doomsday Beast devouring the world. The Cave People seem to be very vigilant about this."

"Another record is quite peculiar."

After hesitating a bit, Ni Ge said, "Based on the images on the Mud Tablets, they are trying to capture and move Space Bubbles, but this is beyond our understanding, since we don't know how to move space... According to the Mud Tablet Paintings, it requires using those solidified Energy Bodies."

"Overall, Cave Energy is a very peculiar thing; we have not found a way to replicate it."

"Besides that, the textual records on those Mud Tablets are all holes, large and small. These holes are very symmetrical, and likely their form of writing, but unfortunately, we can't read or translate them."

"Originally, we were deciphering the holes and Mud Tablets left by the Cave People, but then we were hit by the bug disaster, and everything had to be halted, considering how we could escape the doomed world..."

Zhou Yi's heart stirred.

The Mud Tree Civilization World and the heritage left by the Cave People. From this description, it seemed that the civilization level of the Cave People was even higher than that of the Mud Tree People, even researching the use of Space Bubbles and observing and understanding the Doomsday Beast and Circular Flow impact.

If it was possible to enter there, perhaps clues and technology on utilizing the Dead Sea could be found.

After all, both the Wasteland and the Mud Tree World shared the same great environment, the eruption of the Circular Flow.

"Do we still have a Space Bubble that can return to the Mud Tree Civilization World?"

"There are, but... the success rate is too low, only 10%, most likely you'll die inside. Because the Black Thorn itself is not fully developed, it's not a real Light Core Body."

Zhou Yi said, "Then what if we turn it into a real Light Core Body?"

"This..." Ni Ge was stunned: "How can that be achieved?"

"There's a way."

Zhou Yi smiled slightly: "This was told to me by the Black Thorn itself."

Fortunately, thanks to Sun Hao's abilities, the Consciousness of the Black Thorn was completely repaired.

Otherwise, the great opportunity contained within would have been lost.
