Chapter 107: The Two Tracks of the Glider

Jade City has two aprons, each corresponding to a Dead Sea Channel.

On No.1 apron, the armed glider is surrounded by people.

Technicians from Sand Port and Shuanghe Region are having a heated discussion about it.

Zhou Yi asked Duke Destructive beside him, "Is it difficult to modify single-person gliders for combat because operating them solo in flight battles is hard?"

"It's difficult."

The young doll's eyes gazed upon the armed glider: "The vast majority of Light Imprint Cannons cannot self-aim; relying solely on the naked eye to adjust the enemy's position requires an expert to accomplish. Whether it's a high-speed cannon or a main gun with strong lethality, a dedicated auxiliary aiming device is needed."

"Air combat is not a one-on-one fight."

"The pilot is responsible for flying and control. The reconnaissance always observes the surroundings, and when an enemy is encountered, it is their job to lock on to the position and provide coordinates to the gunner."

"The gunner needs to load and fire the gun, and during the firing cool-down, make correct combat decisions."

"So, in aerial combat, adopting humans as combat units requires a glider to be equipped with three cooperating individuals, each with their own duties; otherwise it is hard to achieve a good effect."

After listening, Zhou Yi said, "Duke Destructive truly has a deep understanding of air combat, unlike us who started halfway through."

"It's a lesson bought with the lives of many."

The doll's painted eyes turned, looking at a large glider approaching slowly: "I heard before that Lord Sand Sea was making a luxurious glider; appears that this is it. Shall we go take a look?"

Zhou Yi followed its gaze.

The glider landed on an adjacent apron. It was about twelve or thirteen meters long, with four broad wings, looking like a super-sized dragonfly.

The words "Sand Port" were painted in the common language of the Western Continent on the left and right sides of the fuselage, representing its identity.

The number "002" at the back symbolized the body number.

Lord Sand Sea was just coming out of the luxurious glider, looking pleased.

Seeing Zhou Yi and the other, it took the initiative to invite, "Mr. Zhou, Duke Destructive, would you like to have a look at my official craft?"

Zhou Yi smiled and said, "That's why we're here."

"Please, this way."

Climbing up the wooden ladder into the glider, the first impression Zhou Yi had was one of refinement.

Inside, there were polished wooden floors and exquisitely carved rhombic lamps; the cabin looked like a reception hall, with seats, a coffee table, a desk, and soft leather sofas, and even fresh flowers.

It was not at all cold.

"A custom Flame Cup has been installed to keep this place as warm as a heated room."

Lord Sand Sea introduced with a swish of its paw: "In the summer, it will be cooled; this place is very suitable for hosting guests and talking business."

Zhou Yi looked around and remarked, "Seems like when you got the Flame Cup for production, you indeed played out a lot of variations."

"In Sand Port, how can we not create something new?"

Resembling an oversized seal, Lord Sand Sea grinned and said: "But here, we can't do anything big, nor do we have the specialized talent to drive major innovations. We just make small improvements, can't fall too far behind the company's pace."

Meanwhile, Duke Destructive had already moved to another cabin as if inspecting something.

Zhou Yi walked over and saw two single beds side by side.

"Why is it designed this way?"

Duke Destructive expressed confusion: "Two people without any barrier, sleeping so close? It's strange."

Zhou Yi struggled to suppress his laughter.

He had not expected the decisive Duke Destructive to be so oblivious to comforts.

He immediately responded, "This looks like it should be a place for massages and foot baths. The corresponding equipment seems to have been put away, but there is still a scent of medicinal herbs and flowers in the room."

"Mr. Zhou is knowledgeable."

Lord Sand Sea gave a thumbs-up: "Just now, I negotiated a collaboration with Glazed Glass Duke from Glass Castle. After taking a flight around their castle, I specifically hired two Rehabilitation Therapists."

"Two therapists."

It clapped its paws, and two girls aged around fifteen or sixteen came out from the inner room. They were pretty and emitted a faint white glow.

"Enhancers?" Zhou Yi was surprised.

"They're Transforming Monsters."

Duke Destructive cast a glance at Zhou Yi: "Mr. Zhou's understanding of the Guangna Species still needs to be strengthened."

Obviously unhappy about his inability to keep from snickering.

Zhou Yi inquired out of ignorance, "Please enlighten me."

"Transforming Monsters are a type of Guangna Species, genderless, with the ability to change forms and can transform into various appearances as needed. They are favored by many important figures as concubines and lovers because part of changing oneself requires insight into human nature. They know how to cater to the target's preferences and what will please them."

Duke Destructive turned to the two girl-like Guangna Species: "To find two Transforming Monsters and train them as Rehabilitation Therapists, Lord Sand Sea has indeed invested a lot."

Lord Sand Sea simply smiled and said, "If we lack in hard power, we have to make it up with soft power."

Zhou Yi was quite interested in the two girl-transforming monsters.

"What are your names?"

"Mr. Zhou, my name is Xin Mu."

"My name is Xin Yuan."

Zhou Yi couldn't help but think, "Sunset and distant roads? Did you choose these names yourselves?"

The two Transforming Monsters showed expressions of surprise.

Xin Mu said, "You are very familiar with the Dead Sea Documents. The names were given by the person who adopted us, who at the time wanted to train us to assassinate a sea lord. When we were very young, that sea lord was killed due to internal rebellion."

"The Avenger who adopted us was already seriously ill and named us before dying. It was such a pity, he said, that both he and the enemy would die, not through revenge. In the end, he hoped we would become doctors as saving lives is more valuable than taking them."

"Later, Lord Sand Sea took notice of us, and then we came to Sand Port."

Zhou Yi gave a noncommittal sound.

For safety, he used Red Kestrel's mind-reading to take a look.

It was indeed in agreement with what was said.

Lord Sand Sea said, "Mr. Zhou, I am currently working on a series of luxury gliders in Sand Port, exclusively for hosting various sea lords, mayors, and representatives of organizations."

"After such packaging, the price of luxury gliders can reach 50 to 100 Light Seeds each. Sea lords from various places, as well as those big businessmen, are all very interested."

"Everyone has official business and deals to discuss, and having such a mobile dwelling makes things much more convenient. The quality of life is significantly improved, and the cost is much cheaper than renting a Mechanical City's Flying System lifeform."

It went on and on: "I have already received 24 orders, and everyone wants to buy the top-end model costing 100 Light Seeds. This order is still increasing, so I need to visit more regions with the luxury glider, which serves as natural publicity."

"Then there are the follow-up services, upgrades, and maintenance, which also bring in money. Added up, the annual revenue is not trivial."

"I have allowed Sand Port businessmen to buy shares in this project, and they get a share of the dividends. To boost sales, they will also use all their connections to hype and promote. Businessmen are very useful in this aspect; as long as they see a profit to be made, they will mobilize all resources to accomplish the task."

Lord Sand Sea had a smile on his face.

Zhou Yi listened and nodded his head.

This was just like the old human billionaires who love luxury yachts and private planes. Usage rate is not important, cost-effectiveness is not important, what is important is that you cannot be without it—let me see who does not have one?

Just as that classic line in the movie goes.

You drive a Mazda, so you get stuck in traffic, you have no right to attend this meeting!

After finishing the tour, Duke Destructive also gave his Mie-style approval: "Lord Sand Sea is unremarkable in strength but has managed to stay upright here for many years indeed for a reason."

After the glider was unfolded, two development paths have since been created.

The first is the armed glider developed by Duke Destructive. The Shuanghe Region has strong infrastructure and production capabilities along with rich aerial combat experience, which perfectly matches this direction.

Zhou Yi predicts that this military direction will have a huge future.

On the cost side, gliders are much cheaper than traditional air forces, like the Guangna Species and Mechanical life, and inherently hold potential for sustainable evolution and modification.

The second path is the luxury model developed by Lord Sand Sea, focusing on business activities and high-end needs.

Actually, this area is Zhou Yi's real blind spot, but Lord Sand Sea has already found the right track and is thriving.

The value of gliders is far more than that, however.

There's still a distance to go before they become popular among the common people.

From Zhou Yi's personal experience, like computers and mobile phones that become part of most people's lives, only when widely used, do they truly bring qualitative change, then becoming inseparable from everyone's day-to-day life.

...

In the following few days.

There were many arguments and disagreements in the company and the Shuanghe Region regarding the modification of armed gliders.

The core question was.

What is the most critical characteristic of an armed glider?

Is it to exist as a flying gun platform, or to utilize aerial superiority with speed and maneuverability as the main focus?

The former is supported by the Shuanghe Region, and the latter by the company's staff.

In essence, the question is whether the glider or the weaponry is more important, and which complements which.

This relates to whether the standard should primarily be the Flying Silk System of the glider itself, or the Light Imprint Skill behind the Light Imprint Weapon.

Zhou Yi and Duke Destructive were also involved in this discussion.

Even with two decision-makers present, the technical staff, after initially being restrained, soon got into heated arguments, unable to convince each other.

In the end, it was Duke Destructive who made the decision.

"Speed and maneuverability come first."

"Even the best Light Imprint Cannon is just a sitting duck if the speed isn't up to par."

"We first need to ensure the speed is adequate so that we can catch up with the target, effectively pursue, investigate, and even strike at it. Without speed, we're just sitting ducks in the air."

It looked at everyone: "I know that all your existing experiences rely on the Light Imprint Skill."

"Light Imprint Skill is the foundation and core of past aerial technology. If we relegate it to an auxiliary role, much of the fundamental thinking and concepts must be overturned and rebuilt. This is hard."

"But don't be afraid."

"The Shuanghe Region has reached where it is today through numerous difficulties and changes."

"Let's consider a different approach."

"The Light Imprint Skill system, no matter how hard we chase, will never reach the standard of Mechanical City. But for the Flying Silk System of the glider, and the Floating Heart, we are ahead. Why not choose a path that is more advantageous to us, has a higher ceiling, and offers greater opportunities to break through blockades?"

"This is Shuanghe Region's differentiated strategy all along. While other regions develop land forces, we focus on cultivating and training air forces, that's why we stand out."

"The combination of gliders and Floating Heart is the most important."

"Light Imprint Weapons need to serve the glider; if not suitable, then it's better not to mount them at all, instead, we should opt for other available weaponry and devices!"

During this discussion, Zhou Yi also gained a deeper understanding of Duke Destructive.

This Doll Governor, who does not manage specific affairs, has unique insight in large strategies, and is bold enough to break convention, making decisions harshly and swiftly when necessary.

With the Shuanghe Region joining, the Development Alliance gained not only a northern barrier but also a substantial boost in military, labor, and basic production sectors.

As Zhou Yi sent off Duke Destructive, Red Kestrel suddenly flew over and communicated in synced consciousness.

"Zhou, the electric cat has appeared."

Zhou Yi was delighted in his heart.

"Let's go."

However, when he saw the doll boarding the plane, an idea struck him: with Duke Destructive's insight and thinking, maybe he could provide some different perspectives as a reference?

"Duke Destructive, would you like to take a look at something our company has newly researched?"

The doll's head swiveled 180 degrees: "If you don't mind, I'm naturally very interested."

"Then let's go."

Zhou Yi waved his hand to indicate.
