Wasteland Development Diary

Chapter 221: Fortunately Not Too Late

The explosions in the Dead Sea continued to churn and ripple.

More ferocious than the calamity were the pursuers.

The pursuers behind relentlessly chased, frequently firing strings of bullets and explosive missiles. If it weren't for the turbulent rapids interfering with abilities and equipment, Sha Lang would have long been obliterated.

He ran frantically with the Buddha's Heart on his back.

Red fur covered in purple-brown bloodstains, large areas of his body burnt and festering.

Sha Lang had only one thought.

He must deliver the fragmented Buddha's Heart to the East, to the hands of the Wasteland Development Company.

This must be done!

...

Sha Lang was a member of a sea people Pillage Group, known for his ruthless actions and meticulous work, earning him some notoriety within the circle.

Not long ago, the boss told him, "No need for you to go out to sea for now, instead, keep an eye on the Leshan Buddha for me."

The Leshan Buddha was an alien who came from the East.

Rumor has it that it's a Light Core Body.

Faced with such a creature standing at the pinnacle of the world, most Guangna Species are like ants.

"It has a major weakness."

The boss said, "According to intel from the Legal Front, the Leshan Buddha needs to absorb external attacks for some kind of training. No matter how you hit it, it won't retaliate. Of course, if it truly intends to kill someone, no one can escape."

"There's a bounty offering for gathering the latest intel and movements of the Buddha. The money is significant."

The boss pointed upwards: "Stay close, there are eyes in the sky watching."

Sha Lang was surprised: "Is the employer the Star Axis?"

"No."

The boss didn't hide it: "The Legal Front. They can now mobilize several satellites. They are the ones needing the intel."

Sha Lang understood.

Even the Western Continent knew that the Legal Front and the Wasteland Development Company were at odds.

The latter had erased a large Mechanical City from the map, the former surely couldn't let this go, seeming to gather enemy intel to find a chance for counterattack.

However, the target was a Light Core Body that appeared only in rumors.

Sha Lang was extremely cautious.

After locating the target, Sha Lang found the Buddha was surrounded by people everywhere. Sea people like him, Bone Men, groups of camped Mountain Dogs, Mechanical Knights with Spider Cars, Bounty Knights' flags, Dead Sea Knights' warships, lone warriors, snipers in battle vehicles...

A small market had formed around the Buddha, with Bone Men even selling binoculars, Energy Packs, offering charging and refueling services. They indeed knew how to make money.

Sha Lang watched coldly.

Everyone's focus was on the Buddha.

It appeared as rumors described, oddly shaped, eyes glowing, black outer garment flashing with luminous text, all in Eastern Continent's language.

Sha Lang consulted a Bone Man.

The Bone Man explained, "The text on the Buddha's robe says 'No Fighting,' 'Lay down the Slaughter Knife,' 'Attack me if you have anger'... essentially reminding other beings they can attack it freely."

This was indeed the case.

Every day there were Challengers—or rather, attackers.

Some rushed directly in front of the Buddha, striking and kicking it.

Others fired from a distance, using heavy sniper rifles and armor-piercing bullets to hit every part of its body, trying to find its weak spot.

Some even threw Light-blocking Oil and similar weapons, attempting to cut off the Dead Light Energy within the Buddha.

However, all were futile, not even leaving a scratch.

The Buddha didn't retaliate; rather, it was indifferent. How could a giant care about a challenge from insects?

Sha Lang felt both envious and annoyed.

Envious, naturally, of the Light Core Body's power that could transcend worldly boundaries, enabling one to maneuver freely in other spaces.

Annoyed that even though it was a Light Core Body, it remained in the Inner Sea cluttered with weaker beings, flaunting around.

If you have the ability, go challenge the strong ones!

Have a Heavenly People lay down the Slaughter Knife to see!

Showcasing might in front of ordinary beings is hardly impressive!

Sha Lang quickly realized, the Buddha's target seemed not to be ordinary life forms.

Whether Guangna Species or Mechanical Life, it remained in a defensive stance, allowing their tide-like ant swarm attacks, much like an elephant tolerating mosquito bites, simply advancing.

The Buddha's glowing eyes continuously focused ahead, deep in the Dead Sea.

It stepped into a high-pressure zone.

Everyone stopped.

Moving in high-pressure zones was challenging, body defenses would suffer permanent reduction. The longer one stayed, the greater the damage.

Sha Lang watched as the stone Buddha spread its wide arms.

The whole high-pressure zone began emitting a dull tremor, countless particulate matter igniting red and glowing, like billions of fireflies dancing.

A strange array of colorful beams began to spread, like giant curtains in the Dead Sea being torn into threads, flowing in all directions like fireworks with long tails.

The Buddha's arms slowly came together.

Sha Lang was stunned.

He could clearly sense the high-pressure zone being dismantled by the Buddha. This area, previously inaccessible and a slow disaster zone, was forcibly restored to flow after dispersal.

The Buddha's arms slowly clasped together.

The once solid and impassable front became clear and unobstructed.

The crowd behind rushed forward, hurriedly gathering the situation for analysis.

Sha Lang immediately sent a thorny bird to relay a message to the boss.

—The Buddha has broken the high-pressure zone.

Subsequently, the Leshan Buddha focused on handling the Dead Sea disaster area, dismantling high-pressure zones, and altering the rapids' flow with its arms.
