Wasteland Development Diary

Chapter 33 Interrogation Proxy

Zhou Yi swiftly arrived on the Moon and met with the Night God.

Under the dazzling cage constructed by the Gemstone Transformer, a man was sitting on the lunar surface.

He was staring blankly at a spinning stone gyro beside him.

"This guy is Wang Fengwu."

The Night God said, "He didn't resist at all during the entire capture process. He should know that the Transformer was coming for him, making things much easier. There were no other acting agents around."

"It's my first time using this Gemstone Transformer. I made some operational errors initially. Manually controlling it to target only him was quite tricky because we were so close to the town. Fortunately, he didn't resist. I was a little worried at that time."

"Now he's locked in place, his perception blocked by the Transformer. He can't see the situation outside."

Zhou Yi scrutinized Wang Fengwu.

The number four agent looked around thirty-five or thirty-six years old, dressed in a simple gray work uniform. His hands were covered with black sleeves, giving the impression of a mechanic.

He had a wide forehead, a fat jaw, and a slightly chubby physique. His face showed a lifeless expression that made Zhou Yi think of Liu Yida, the master of dreams in the movie "God of Cookery."

The Night God waved a small fan at the glowing cage holding the man: "This guy seems to know he's about to die. He didn't argue or try to implicate others, saying he would report other agents' violations."

Zhou Yi was intrigued: "Let's interrogate him first."

"Okay."

For safety, he suggested taking Wang Fengwu to the Twin Towers.

The Twin Tower area is more hidden and secure. Once number four is captured on the Moon, he's certainly not going back.

Moreover, he might know something when he sees the Gem Pool and Twin Towers over there.

"Makes sense, I'll take him there."

The Night God immediately took action.

The Gemstone Transformer shrank back into its original double-headed trident form, resembling a special glowing butterfly. Wang Fengwu, connected to its light, was led along like a puppet.

Zhou Yi entered the deep pit passage once again.

Under the Twin Towers.

Wang Fengwu looked up and saw the majestic black-and-red Twin Towers, showing a bit of curiosity.

When his gaze fell on the ground, his eyes widened immediately, evidently seeing the Heavenly People's corpses beneath the Gem Pool.

Zhou Yi initiated the interrogation through the Gemstone Transformer: "Do you know where this is?"

"I know, it's a mortuary..."

Strictly speaking, he wasn't wrong.

"Let's officially start the interrogation now."

Zhou Yi said, "Number four, introduce yourself thoroughly, no lies or omissions."

The other sorted his thoughts: "Two hundred thirty-one years ago, I was selected to become an agent, ranked number four."

"At that time, a close-range Light Burst destroyed my town. Only a few people survived, including me. Afterward, my body mutated, my hair fell out, my brain transformed into a Guangna Organ, and I became a naturally formed Mutant."

Only then did Zhou Yi notice that Wang Fengwu was wearing a wig.

"I was taken by the Golden-faced Guard to the Gem Country of the Heavenly People, where my bones were transformed into gemstones, giving me two Guangna Organs."

"Then, I was ordered to mate with a woman and father two children."

"One child died during the transformation. The other was transformed into a complete gemstone body, valuable to the Heavenly People, and taken away."

Wang Fengwu said woodenly: "Because of this, I was selected as an agent."

He actually rose to power by producing high-quality offspring.

This surprised Zhou Yi.

"I have two duties."

"One is to screen Mutants, marking at least 100 Mutants each year, then passing them to the Supervisor for transfer to the Heavenly People."

"The second is to periodically mate with different individuals, selecting suitable offspring from the born individuals."

Wang Fengwu remained calm throughout.

Zhou Yi silently mused.

He was treated as a stud horse… No wonder this guy looked utterly lifeless and despondent.

Agents also needed to act as surrogates.

Really tragic.

"I only limit the marking to 100 Mutants each year, targeting those on the verge of death, who don't meet the quality standards for Mutants."

"I often struggle to function during mating, causing the other party to cooperate for long periods."

"These are my failings."

Wang Fengwu described his work.

Zhou Yi said: "Continue."

"That's all."

"We've received reports accusing you of secretly killing and suppressing Mutants."

"That's not true."

Wang Fengwu defended himself: "I haven't done that. These are slanders."

"Do you remember Wu Gang from East Pole Island?"

"Wu Gang?"

Wang Fengwu paused, then said: "Wu Gang within the anomaly on East Pole Island was killed by a Skywalker sent by the Heavenly Kingdom. You can verify this. I did interact with him because I saw his great potential and helped him learn to better use his 'Borrowing Power' ability."

"This ability has a high upper limit, allowing one to gain life and energy from others, exceeding one's capabilities."

"But Borrowing Power requires repayment. If repayment can't be completed, it results in ability decline, malfunction, or even painful death."

"I found him mainly to caution him against frequent use since his condition was extremely bad, near death, but he had no choice in that environment. I warned him to some extent."

Zhou Yi frowned.

In this environment, Wang Fengwu didn't seem to be lying, nor did he have a reason to.

It was completely different from what Zhang Zhi had said.

"That's all?"

"That's all…"

Wang Fengwu pondered: "I also asked if he wanted to try the transformation experiment since he was dying anyway. Though most become cannon fodder in the transformation experiments, there's a chance, like me, to become an agent. Once an agent, seeking death is impossible, but one can live very long."

"Wu Gang asked about this. I explained my experiences and duties... After hearing, he seemed particularly distressed and troubled."

"He thanked me but hoped I wouldn't disclose this matter. Wu Gang believed the Mutants needed reasons and motivations to continue fighting."

"I served as a scapegoat."

"Let them believe defeating me would grant them freedom and dignity, which is vital to the Mutants."

"If they knew even defeating, transforming into me, or surpassing me as Transformers wouldn't change anything, they'd only experience despair and collapse, unable to survive."

"That was the agreement between Wu Gang and me. You can verify through my Consciousness."

He stated.

Zhou Yi asked the Night God nearby: "Can you verify?"

"I'll try. Mechanistically, it's possible. If that fails, I'll use the Great Holy Spirit method."

The Night God first tried using the Gemstone Transformer, but found it difficult to operate.

"Not very proficient yet. It has many functions, but precise operation is challenging now. I should practice with the Moon People later, that should improve things greatly."

She eventually activated her true body.

The Gem Eyes rose again.

Numerous beams of light connected to Wang Fengwu, analyzing and penetrating him.

Moments later.

The Night God's red-black pupils flickered mysteriously: "I've checked. It's indeed as he said."

"He didn't target Wu Gang, instead giving him numerous pieces of advice and warnings."

"I reviewed Wang Fengwu's entire life."

"His life is very simple. Apart from fulfilling his duties, he mostly lives alone in Fangcao Town, avoiding movement, never leaving Earth World, nor visiting the Moon. He hasn't even been to Dawn City, the Heavenly Capital."

"Unlike other agents, he has no desires, merely existing day by day. This likely results from long periods used as a mating tool and his personal character. He hasn't trained any Golden-faced Guard followers."

"His two abilities. First, 'Forgotten,' derived from the energy structure of the Dream Demon by the Heavenly People. Second, 'Divine Travel,' which allows him to control his Consciousness independently, interact with other beings, and implant consciousness, though he mainly uses it for long-distance calls and information retrieval."

Zhou Yi pieced together the situation in his mind.

The scenario became clear.

This man is simply a bureaucratic agent, diligent and unremarkable, pure day-by-day existence.

Upon learning the truth, Wu Gang fabricated Wang Fengwu as the mastermind for Mutants to rally, changing their collective fate.

He attributed his death, Mutants' tragedy and suffering to Wang Fengwu, making him the target to end everything, so his good friend Zhang Zhi and future successors could retain courage and motivation.

Using false hope to obscure true despair.

Zhou Yi finally refocused the topic: "You mentioned other agents also violating regulations?"

"Yes."

Wang Fengwu stated: "Number three has severe violations."

"He conducts large-scale live experiments on humans, especially children, creating numerous Guangna Organ monsters, harming tens of thousands. Please sanction and stop him!"
